This textured can of Kingfisher Ultra Lager Beer, "The King of Good Times," pours a predictably light-golden body. Carbonation is less than I expect from the brand. The head disappears almost immediately.
The nose is light, to say the least. Faint notes of untoasted grain and even fainter notes of metal.
The taste is smoother, lighter, and less sweet than Kingfisher Premium. Is it the filtering process that does this? The taste follows the nose. The beer's smooth, light aftertaste is refreshing at times. It isn't overly sweet as is regular Kingfisher. If I squint my tastebuds, I detect some very faint flavors of fruits and herbs. Still, the taste and mouthfeel of Kingfisher Ultra are right at the cusp of wateriness. Is it crisp and clean or thin and tasteless? I'm not sure.
If it didn't cost nearly twice as much as regular Kingfisher, I'd make Kingfisher Ultra my go-to lager in India. But as it stands, I'm not sure the slight improvement in palatability is worth the 25-rupee difference.

Had at the ITC Marathra in Mumbai 8/4
From notes
A: This beer pours a somewhat hazy deep yellow with a two finger of pillowy white head. Head reccedes at a moderate pace. Minor spots of lacing.
S: Nose is of adjuncts and corn.
T: Taste is all adjuncts, corn, grain, with a minor touch of grassiness in the finish. Some hints of rice notes.
M: Light body, high carbonation, crisp clean body.
D: Goes down ok, not much of a kick, not much flavor, this is better than the Kingfisher premium, but that isn't saying much.

The beer is meant for the discerning Indian palate - called "The Emperor Of Good Times". Costs twice as much, but really fails to make any ground, really ! Poured from the tab capped 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. It pours the predictable clear, dark yellow, fizzy liquid with a frothy head. The head disappears before you can look again. The frustration begins. The nose is next to nothing. I repeat - next to nothing. I don't even get the normal wet grain whiff that's so usual with the KF line. Hey, where is the malt ?? Where did your hops go ?? Its just cold and wet air that comes up, something that your air conditioner throws up.
The taste follows the nose. Its flavoured soda with a hint of beer essence. You know what, it would make for a great beer popsicle. The carbonation tries to get some attention, but fails to do so. You try to dig for some flavour, but its bare as bones. I can swear their Premium Lager has more substance than this one. This one is completely out of flavour and favour alike. Drink it if you must.
