After being turned off our local home brew store by attitudes from the staff, and a general lack of helpfulness, I turned to Main Street to mail order my brew supplies.

MainStreet is the local home brew store for one of my brewing friends, and I've been in the store once or twice on visits.

Kevin and Doug are always glad to help me out, and frequently go out of their way to make sure I get what I need for a weekend brew session, even if I don't decide to brew until Wednesday.

They've been great about advice on substitutions and trying to make shipping as economical as possible.

I've visited several shops, and this is far and away the one to go to if you're in the west-PDX area, or happening to be traveling through.

Fantastic selection of yeasts, hops (sealed in vacuum-pack, light-barier packs by the owner, and FRESH!), extracts, grains, and specialty ingredients. But more than anything, a friendly and knowledgeable couple of dudes who can help you out with anything: advice, help on tricky problems, recipes.

Very reasonable prices on ingredients and equipment, and fantastic customer service. I got some funky hops once, and they were replaced immediately, no-questions-asked. Hell yeah!

If ever near Hillsboro, check this place out!

I've ventured out here on a couple occasions because no other homebrew shop in Portland was open on Sunday - one of the best days to brew. I did get lost when trying to find the place, so make sure you check the map/instructions before heading out.

The shop carries a pretty good selection of gear and ingredients and at standard price. Pretty cool.

The service I've had was awesome. The gentleman working the counter even made some excellent suggestions after picking up a deficiency in our plan from conversation. I really like knowlegeable staff that can help you without being condescending.

On a site note - I learned the appropriate way to force carbonate without the "force" from their website. Thanks!
