bottle into tulip

appearance: amber orange, large white frothy head

smell: dark biscuity malt, burnt earthy hops, resin, apple, pine

taste: huge malt backbone, very bitter earthy hops, lots of pine, hints of apple and subtle citrus. not much grapefruit at all, very bitter and dry.

mouthfeel: lots of carbonation, sits very heavy

overall: a very bitter beer, not sure if I enjoyed it. very resiny and bitter, not very refreshing and for a hop head it doesn't satisfy, just seems out of balance. Also, there was no date on this bottle... I've had much better from Yazoo, especially their SUE beer. I'm curious as to what the other hop projects are like...

Served poured into a mug from a 12 oz. bottle

Appearance- Pours a nice reddish amber color with a bubbly, frothy head that settles out quickly. Nice looking

Smell- Sweet fruity esters. Big juicy honey mango and strawberry notes. Sweet candied hop aroma. One of the sweetest, fruitiest IPAs I have smelled in a while. Good stuff here.

Taste- Bitter, BITTER earthy dry-hop draw. Earthy, grassy puckering coats the mouth. Toasted malts, finishes bitterly acidic. A truly bitter, sub-tropical climate styled brew. A throwback to the British style IPAs seemingly forgotten since the onset of big, aromatic, hopped-up American varieties.

Mouthfeel- Crisp and refreshing with thirst quenching properties. Would be great for summertime.

Overall- Quite a drastic contrast between the big juicy nose, and the dry bitter flavor. A bit of a let-down with how far "yin" and "yang" this one is with the respective smell/taste hop characters. Still a refreshing brew, though I would reserve this one for the summer heat.

Bottle dated 02.05.13, presumed to be batch 70

A: Pours a nice reddish amber, somewhat cloudy with hop particles it seems. Big foamy tan head. Head fades slowly, very slowly with great head retention. Decent fluffy lacing.

S: Kinda sweet, not a ton of hops. Citrusy mainly with some caramel sweetness backing it up. Kinda smells like candied oranges or something. A touch of resin in there too.

T: Hops in the flavor are much stronger than the aroma. Citrusy briefly, then moves on to a very resinous and piney flavor. Herbal hops, almost like a typical red ale. Some caramel sweetness and some dry toast in the middle/finish. Decent bitterness, especially in the finish and in the lingering aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, nice and dry in the finish.

O: Nice IPA. Wish there were some actual information on the bottle, such as batch # or ABV. I didn't even know you could sell beer with an ABV on it. Oh well, it's probably 6-7% I'd say. Nice variety of hops and decent balance of flavors. Big bitterness in the lingering finish which is nice. I enjoyed it.

Picked ths up in Nasheville at Publix

Pours an effervescent amber with 3 fingers of tan head. Good lacing & above average head retention

S: Breadyness & little bit of pine & lemon, plus cattyness, some grapefruit rind

T: Catty & leafy hop notes, touch of biscuitty malts & dryness, a touch of pineyness & a little bit of pear up front. Pineyness, herbal notes & touch of grapefruit & leafy hop notes once warm. Finishes with cattyness, pineyness, plus woody hops in spades

MF: Medium bodied, firm cabonation, skews hoppy, but in style

This is a pretty decent AIPA, needs to get up past cellar temp to really grab me. Fairly complex with nice drinakbility. You must like em dank to love this IMO

With almost no head, it pours a light amber color with a few bubbles.

It smells like the malts that I smelled every time I used to drive past the budweiser brewery on my way to work in Van Nuys.

I really like the very fruity, bitter, and present hop profile, but the malt profile tastes sort of in line with the rest of the brewery's lineup which are a bit spongy and old-tasting to me if that makes sense.

Every time I taste a Yazoo brew I taste great intentions, but only a beer like this with excessive amounts of hops can cover up the metallic taste that they all seem to have from whatever they were brewed in.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into pub glass , says its Hop Project #70 bottled about 3 weeks ago
Pours a hazy light brown with a small red tint to it , nice 1 1/2 finger white frothy head with a lot of lacing

Smells really nice , a little bit of citrus with some pine resin type smell , a small amount of the malt shows up in the aroma , but not much

Nice mouth full of a beer , not too much carbonation , just about perfect for the style

Now the odd part , The initial drink starts out like oh wow this is going to be a really good beer , you get the hops right in your face , the malt starts to come through , then half way through the drink the bottom just falls out of it. It goes from really good to nothing , no flavor , no aftertaste , just kind of a watered down super bitter flavor

I'm not sure how to review this beer , this is one of the weird ones for me. It looks great , smells great , has a nice body to it , but the taste and flavor just fall flat , I wouldnt buy it again
