Notes:
A rich, chocolaty English Porter with a clean finish. We use the finest floor-malted Maris Otter malts from England, the same malts used for the best single-malt scotch. A portion of malted rye gives a spicy, slightly dry finish.

A-Pours very dark, almost black with a thin tan head that dissipates immediately.
S-Some chocolate, roasted malt, and hint of dark fruits
T-Dark fruits along with a hint of chocolate and coffee, and a touch of roasted malt
M-Syrupy and somewhat thin
D-One could drink this all day long, no problem. A true session beer.
Overall, this beer was great. It was unlike any other porter I've had before because it seemed much more dark fruit forward than roasted. It was semi-sweet, but no where near too sweet. I'm glad I tried this while in Nashville.

A very dark brown in color with a creamy tan head. Aromas of light cocoa. Taste begins with a bit of coffee, and some chocolate. Next was some sweet grain, and a hint of hops in the finish. Mouthfeel is good. Overall a quite good porter! The spiciness of he rye works well here.

Had on tap at the Yazoo brewery. Pitch black in color with a foamy, creamy head to it.
The aroma shows some chocolate mixing with a little roasty coffee. Some sweeter, creaminess and a little bready, spicy rye are noticeable as well. It comes together pretty well.
The taste has some cocoa flavors coming out up front with roasted malts and a little rye to it in the finish. Nice range of flavors to it and pretty smooth overall.
The mouthfeel is creamy and slick with moderate carbonation. Great mouthfeel for the style. Overall it was a very flavorful and drinkable beer. I really liked the little bit of rye flavor in it. Very solid beer all around, especially for the style.

Had on tap in a pint glass at Village Pub in Nashville.
Beer pours a nice dark black color with a fingers worth of white head. Laces pretty well.
Beer smells of very roasty and of chocolate and coffee.
Beer tastes very roasty on the front end. Very rich chocolate, followed by some vanilla sweetness. You can taste the rye mid-way thorugh to the finish, giving it a very unique taste for a porter.
Moutfeel is a bit on the thin side and very drinkable.
Very drinkable and flavorful.

On tap from the brewery in a sampler. A chocolaty, cloudy brown with a medium tan head and nice lace. The smell was of chocolate, banana, clove, spice, pepper, and a hint of roast. The taste followed the nose. A chocolate covered banana with spicy elements throughout. Spicy rye, black pepper, banana, cloves and chocolate with hints of coffee and roasted qualities. A complex but light beer. a bit thin for a porter. On the watery side with a bit of creaminess in the swallow. Overall an enjoyable beer. Easy to drink.

Served on tap in a pint glass. Deep, dark brown body, with a creamy two finger mocha head. Some light lacing on the glass. Looks good.
Light aroma. Mostly getting a little roasted malt and sweet molasses.
Chocolate. Cool. Wasn't really expecting that. Excellent blend of flavors including some toffee, coffee, malt, with just a hint of rye at the end.
Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. This beer is well done. One of the best offerings I've had from Yazoo.

A- Deep brown, ruby on edges. Head is wispy leaving hints of lace on the glass.
S- Somewhat chocolate (dark, rather than milk), slightly spicy and earthy. Understated but pleasant.
T- Dark chocolate in opening. A bit of sourness, complimented by hints of bittering hops, before a spicy rye finish.
M- Carbonation is good, but the body needs a little more weight behind it.
D- A solid porter. An attempt at including rye is appreciated and more or less well executed. A few tweaks and this could be great beer.

Had this on tap in the Yazoo taproom from a pint glass.
Appearance is a very dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head.
Smell is of roasted malts, chocolate and spices. Nice malty aroma was very inviting.
Taste was rich and creamy, with strong malt flavor. Also tasted dark chocolate with a slight bitterness and spices that I assume come from the rye.
Mouthfeel was clean. The malty sweetness finishes with a slightly dry aftertaste.
Drinkability is very good. I could see having several of these in a row. A solid porter overall.

Very dark brown pour, borderline black. Head provided a great contrast as its light brown head sat atop.
Somewhat roasted aroma, rye spiciness but not overpowering.
Flavors follow the nose. Some roasted malt with a touch of spice. Burnt toffee. Some cocao, but I think more rye would do this beer well. Or more roast. Just seems indecisive as to what it is. Hops are either missing or dominated.
Still, a nice beer. Could be a great autumn grilling out football beer.

The rye really adds a unique taste to this porter, sampled at the Schlafly Repeal festival. Poured a deep mahogany brown, almost opaque, with a nice topping head of ivory.
Aroma was chocolate maltshake, and this progressed into the quaff - along with that unique rye kick, along with a bit of coffee and the "standard" sour ale taste.
Very good brew, solid body to pair with the solid brew. Looking forward to more Yazoo brews in the area.

Had this on draft at Findley's, in Opryland. Color was slightly less dark than Guinness, with a tan head. The rye was indeed sly - the beer wasn't as astringent as I had anticipated. While not as bitter as I would expect from a porter, I found it quite drinkable, and wouldn't hesitate to purchase it if I found it in my part of the country.

A deep red/garnet color with a light tan head. A little sweeter than expected for a porter and a little more medium bodied than anticipated. This is one of their best. Trying my best to support the local Brewery, even though for a while I could only find it at their tasting room.

On tap at the Yazoo Tap Room.
A - Very nice medium to dark brown color. Off white two finger head. Good retention with excellent lacing.
S - Strong roasted malt aroma. Hints of coffee and chocolate with a little spice mixed in. The rye adds a nice dimension to your standard porter aroma.
T - Light roasted malt sweetness initially. Bitter chocolate then comes in, quickly matched by a dry rye spiciness. Finishes with a spicy bitterness and lingering flavor of roasted chocolate.
M/D - Medium to full bodied with a somewhat dry, yet still creamy feel. Carbonation just high enough to provide life to the feel. Very easy drinking.

Found the beer at Flying Saucer, Nashville. Looking for something with more character, but not quite a Stout. The beer opens with a heavily roasted, lightly chocolate blend, with some Brown Ale sweetness and a hint of cereal grains. The beer tastes more like a Stout with high chocolate notes than it does a Porter. A robust rye character takes charge as the sweetness subsides, leaving a pumpernickle spice, bread, pungent character behind. The body is certainly on the porter side, showing a deleicate smooth, velvety texture, aside from the roasted grain textures. Finishes with a nice blend of chocolate, coffee, and rye. All in all, the rye character was light and at times, hardly noticable.

A = a dark ebony color with a 1/2" tanish head that dissapated rather quickly
S = very slight with roasted malt
T = definite roasted taste with some coffee undertones. not nearly as flavorful as I had hoped, but then again this was my first porter.
M = A lot lighter than I had anticipated. Almost as light as a lager.
D = This went down very easily but overall wasn't as good as I hoped. It's obviously better than most macros but not my choice in craft beers. I much prefer yazoo's stout.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a dark brown body and a pale head that leaves little lacing
Smell: Modest notes of roasted malt
Taste: Roasted grainy taste on the front end followed by a bit of coffee and a very dry finish, presumably from the rye
Mouthfeel: Light/medium body; rather fizzy
Drinkability: Lacks body - needs more malt; I was looking forward to tasting this as I was intrigued by the rye (having enjoyed other rye beers - particularly the Terrapin Rye Pale Ale) but was disappointed by the beer's flaws

I drank two pints of this one at a bar in Nashville.
The appearance was very good: a deep brown color with red highlights when held to the light, and a nice, ivory-colored head about 3/4-inch tall.
While this Porter had the proper outward appearance, the taste was rather disappointing --- not BAD, but not at all what I like in a Porter. Perhaps it was me, but I found there was little to no fore- or mid-taste, and the aftertaste was slightly bitter. I prefer more coffee and chocolate signature, so this one let me down.
I'll quite possibly try it again, at a different location if possible, for fairness' sake.

Had this one on tap in Nashville. Pours a moderate brown color with lots of light around the edges and a nice head. Leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is very malty with some presence of rye and chocolate. The flavor is very odd, but good. Rye is evident as well as a good malt character with some chocolate and a hint of coffee. Has an odd flavor, but very enjoyable.

Poured into a Stella Artois glass
A: Dark brown with a tan one finger head that dissipates to foam. Great lacing.
S: Chocolate, cocoa, toasty.
T: Charred chocolate with light coffee notes. Malty. Sweet, Hearty. Rye slides in on the finish.
M: Medium with medium to heavy carbonation. Frothy. Dry.
O: A solid porter. Great with a chocolate chip cookie. Nice dessert beer.

Brewed on- 12/14/12
A - The porter pours out with clarity of fresh coffee...and about the same carbonation. The head never fully forms, instead islands of foam coalesce and then dissipate leaving nothing. The color is right on though.
S - The rich and roasty Maris Otter malts come wooshing up in the aroma hitting all the right notes: cocoa, leather, herbal. Even the belches smell good. Slight alcohol.
T - Creamy chocolate rounds out most of the taste profile, but there are other faint tastes of peaty-ness. Also a very mild hop presence, with a long mouth watering finish of roasty maltiness.
M - Thin and reminiscent of coca-cola. Lively carbonation with light body and a touch of smoothness.
I think that Yazoo does a great job of making solid beers that most people would approve of. But I think that drinkability is too important for them in most of their core beers. I would love to see them just crank it to 11 and see what happens...I know they want to.

appearance: dark brown/black, 1 finger off white head
smell: chocolate, caramel, malt, bread
taste: chocolate, lots of bready notes, coffee aftertaste, very well balanced, somewhat watery taste.
mouthfeel: really smooth, sits well on the palate
overall: great balanced porter, but wish it had a higher ABV and it would be a truly outstanding beer, just a little too watered down for my liking. You can thank tennessee beer laws for that one. I'd rather have YAZOO's SUE anyday, even though that's not a porter.

Dark tobacco juice brown with a short, 1/3rd inch head. The foam fizzles away quickly (not as fast as, say, Dr. Pepper). Come to think of it, it looks like cola. Not a speck of lace.
Tangy roast aroma with rye and cocoa. Nutty overtones. Hints of some subtle dark fruit; plum perhaps? Though it smells sharp, the taste is smoother. Dark roast, modest rye and bitter chocolate. Earthy finish. When coupled with the body the beer seems thin. Carbonation is reasonable by comparison.
Not too bad. I like it better as it warms up. Pretty dismal appearance though.
