Notes:
An authentic example of a Bavarian Hefeweizen. “Hefe” means cloudy or yeasty and “weizen” means wheat. This beer is made with mostly wheat and uses a true Hefeweizen yeast that gives it a fruity, banana aroma with just a hint of cloves. The tart finish makes this the perfect summer beer.

Poured a nice golden straw color with some fantastic head and nice lacing, if too clear (label said nothing about it being filtered or not). Good scent, nice and clean with a hint of wheat/straw, and a nice pepper undertone. Nice taste, crisp and clean with a nice banana and slight clove flavor, a good malt wheatiness to it. Goes down quite smoothly, a very nice wheat beer.

The beer pours like the typical hefeeweizen. Cloudy, hazy and grainy with a thin white head and spotty lace. The smell is faint and grainy with a back draft of banana, cloves and pepper. The taste is a bit thin and watery up front, but perfectly balanced between the banana and cloves. hints of black pepper and a tart hop bite in the background. A bit thin and watery, but a creamy swallow. Simple, refreshing, and easy to drink.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Thanks to Supernova777 for the pour. Josh you shouldn't have!

A- Pours a hazy yellowish orange color. One finger white head shows low retention and leaves very light streaks of lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Good typical hefe aromas come to the nose. Clove, banana, and a light yeasty scent hit first. There is a light wheat undertone to this nose. Some light citrus notes along with a light alcohol whiff in the ending bring out the aroma.

T- The inital flavor was citrus forward which tended to die down the more I drank of this. Wheat notes were big and maybe some of the boldest parts of the flavor. Banana and clove came through from the middle on toward the ending. The alcohol made itself apparent toward the ending of the beer but was light about it. Average tasting with a little extra something about it.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation was good for the style. Light citrus and banana flavors along with wheat left on the palate. Aftertaste was more wheaty along with a touch of light alcohol and banana clove combo. Alcohol had a light drying on the palate. Flavor was a little off but I couldn't put my finger on it how...I don't know if it was just a little too watery for my liking with this style.

D- I thought this beer was a good offering. Not the most mind blowing Hefeweizen I have had but a good one. This is my first beer from Yazoo and I like what I think they could do. The ABV was light and hidden well. The flavor was a little lacking at times but the drinkability kind of made up for it.

Hazy yellow/orange in color, pale, with a white finger plus of head. No lacing.

Smell is nice, with some citrus, graininess, slight malt sweetness and some banana.

Much of the same. Bit more on the banana though.

The feel is a little silky, smooth, light in body. Decent carbonation.

Pretty good drinkability. Multiples would be good.

Poured into a Samuel Smith pint glass on 11/30/11

Bottled July 2011

Clear, pale light straw color. Lots of cling to the inside of the glass briefly. Two fingers of porous foam condense to 1/4th inch and thins out to nothing from there. No lace.

Pleasant enough aroma of prairie grass, clove, tangy wheat, ripe apple and banana. Yeast overtones emerge periodically and there's a slight dirtiness underneath. Flavor-wise there is a pretty strong grassy hop kick that seems out of place, especially paired with high carbonation found here (the feel pushes well past "crisp" and gets right to "sharp"). Clove, tangy apple and banana, too. Interestingly enough, the wheat seems subdued; I'd appreciate more of it. Finishes dry and grassy. It has a weird coating feel, too.

Though not an altogether reprehensible beer, I think it falls pretty far from the style mark. Even labeled as an American Pale Wheat it would still need several fine tunings to make it stand out.

Poured from the bottle a clear pale yellow color with a sharp fizzy white head. This one is so fizzy, I'd swear someone dropped in an Alka-Seltzer.

Big aroma of bananas along with mild cloves, lemon, and table salt.

The taste is lemon, green apple, and wheat. The tartness of this one caught me by surprise.

Thinner bodied, crisp and tart, and sharply carbonated.

A decent hefe from Yazoo but not one I'll likely have again.

I got this bottle from the most exalted JohnQVegas. This is being reviewed from notes.

This is a cloudy pale straw colored gold with a minimal head and not a ton of lacing. It would get a 3.75 if that were an option, but we'll round down this time.

This smells lemony and sweet with wheat notes. My 3 year old says it smells like grapes, but I'm quite sure he doesn't know what he's talking about (he says every beer smells like grapes since he found out that wine is made from grapes). I do smell tons of banana notes-- and almost a tart lemon and sweet wheat finish.

This isn't the best Hefe, but this is easily drinkable. I would like to see this have some more carbonation.

Not rocking my world, but certainly not unpleasant!

A- Cloudy golden, as to be expected. Head was rather weak though.
S- smell is of apple, somewhat banana, some wheat. Some spicy clove presence to it.
T- Same as aroma. More apple than banana I feel.
M- Underweighted. Somewhat prickly carbonation.
D- Maybe my tastes have evolved/transformed, but this just wasn't as good as I remembered. Not a terrible beer, but not as good as some of Yazoo's more worthy products.

Cloudy yellow, fine rising bubbles, one finger head that dissipates into a sheen, thick clumpy lacing.

Smells typically heffish with yeasty cloves and banana aromas, plus some wheat and a touch of "wet dog." A good smelling hef (wet dog is not necessarily bad).

A slightly plastic/modeling glue taste detracted a bit from what was otherwise probably a pretty good hef. Cloves and bananas, yeast and wheat, very typical once again.

Feel is average. Thin with a little carbonation tang, light body.

Average drink. Not a bad hef but not a great one either.

Do you Yazoo? Pours a golden yellow hue with a slight orange hue through out. A good swirl leaving a cloudy appearance with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates.

The nose has noticeable hefe notes. A strong, almost fake banana aroma that dominates. A slight malt aroma with a hint of spice from the wheat. A light bubblegum and cloves aroma are detectable but mostly in the finish. Some yeasty notes but typical. There also is a slight plastic aroma that is board line rubber in the end.

The taste is similar but not as harsh. The banana is still very strong with more malt presence. More generic malt tastes with limited wheat notes. Cloves and Bubblegum both come out a bit stronger but still play second to the banana. Some good yeasty notes with a light pepper finish. Again with the rubber flavor that really is a deterrent.

The body is light to moderate with a light but good carbonation backing. Would have liked more of a balance and back off the banana but some good thing there.

Huge thanks to a fellow like minded ticker drabmuh for sending this extra. Another state crossed off the tick list.

A: Slightly cloudy bright yellow. Huge three fingers of stark white head. No lace but a solid cap remains.

S: Lots of citrus with a mix of clove, banana, wheat and mily acidity.

T: Faint citrus and pale wheat. Not much else. Very watered down tasting.

M: Light body with soft carbonation.

D: Overall a less than stellar hefe. Rather forgettable.

Bottle into pint glass.

Cloudy pale straw, nice effervescence, very thin white head that's not that impressive. Nice color, though - wonderful balance of clarity and haze to give the color really nice depth and pop.

Nose is really nice and wheaty, with a nice dose of vanilla and clove as well. Not getting too much banana, and just a bit of a sourdough yeast note on the end.

Taste is dry and very crisp. Wheaty, almost husky graininess, big clove, and a hufty whack of yeasty sourness towards the finish. Finish is longish, yeasty, a bit earthy.

Mouthfeel is light and a bit creamy, nicely put together.

Drinkability is pretty solid - very respectable American hefe from a brewery I'm becoming increasingly happy is local to me. Could be a bit more balanced in the yeast flavors but it feels authentic, unlike many, many of the American hefes I've had.

Been wanting to try this one for a while and finally found some in a little store..

Pours a very cloudy hazy pale yellow with a big creamy head...

Great aroma of banana, cloves, lemon, bubble gum, and that yeasty wheaty hefe smell... So far, so good.

Very light crisp taste of citrus, banana, and a hint of the cloves. Damn, this is a great little brew!! I had some Live Oak a couple weeks ago and I have to tell you, this is almost as good as that was!! This is exceptionally fresh having been bottled a couple weeks ago and you can tell.

Great little hefe!! Very drinkable! I will be heading back to grab some more of this one to keep around this summer.

A – Banana gold with a light haze. Almost no head.

S – Bubble gum, light sour apples, banana, and a lace of salad greens. Strange, but surprisingly pleasant.

T – Bright, prickly lemon acidity mellows into sweet banana, caramel, and Clementine. The finish is fantastic, and absolutely loaded with wheat.

M – Lively carbonation into a smooth, medium-full body. Sweet finish.

O – Refreshing with a great wheat character.

Received a 12 FL. OZ. Bottle from a friend from Nashville, TN. Poured from the Blue/Yellow labeled bottle w/ a Blonde Women with wild hair holding a beer into a 12oz Snifter Glass. Has a BOTTLED ON DATE of FEB 03 12 on the side of the label.

Aroma- Has a great amount of German malt and also citrus. TONS of citrus at that. Light spices.

Appearance- Pours a .5 finger head that has average retention. Has a deep golden/light orange colored body with tons of cloud. Leaves good lacing behind.

Flavor- Sweet, light citrus, and good spice. Easy characters of malt and leaves with a sweet finish. No hops present.

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, High Carbonation, Effervescent, and leaves only malts on the palate.

Overall Impression-Very nice for a Hefe that won a 2004 GABF award. I hope to pick up more of this when in Nashville this summer to enjoy during the heated summer months.

Cloudy golden, with rather tame carbonation and head. Practically no lace at all.

Scent of bananas, clove, and some orange. Very good!

Taste is quite pleasant. I get a sweet rush up front, followed by a strong wheat and spice tanginess towards the finish. Very representative of the style.

A very well-done hefeweizen, and well worth a repeat purchase.

I had this one on tap at the Flying Saucer in Nashville last week. From my notes:

A= This hefeweizen poured a pale gold color with a moderate amount of cloudiness for the style. The 1/2" white head disappeared fairly quickly, and did not leave any lace (nor was any expected really).

S= Fruity and yeasty aroma, full of banana and clove as well as the expected wheat "twang". Exactly what you would expect from the style.

T= The flavor profile was good but not as good as the aroma. A bit muted, but still showing soft flavors of banana, clove, citrus, and of course wheat malt sweetness. Mildly tart finish.

MF= Medium bodied with a soft (in my opinion just a bit too soft) carbonation feel.

D= Not the best and not the worst by far. Solid middle of the road, no complications hefeweizen here.

A - Very cloudy yellow with thick white foamy head. Moderate lacing in the glass. Looks like a model Hefeweizen.

S - Citrusy and grainy. Too grainy in the aroma for my liking.

T - Grainy with a hint of yeasty lemon and banana. Very tart at the end of the drink. The flavor combinations just didnt add up for me.

M/D - Light crisp mouthfeel. A passable hefe, but not my favorite from these guys.

pils glass requested, into german mug as it'll have to do.

Nice bright golden color, big foamy head that is 3-fingers plus. Very creamy, slightly off white. Takes a while to settle down.

One whiff and I get a lot of honey/floral sweetness and some strong yeast notes.

Taste confirms. Mild banana and the yeast backs off a bit. Very mellow but enjoyable. Mildly grassy, some twinge of tart apple too. Pleasing finish.

A bit light for the style but pretty refreshing. I enjoyed this one.

Courtesy of ckeegan04. Am drinking this earlier than planned 'cause I'm bottling today and realized I'm out of bottles, so WTF?!

Pours a light grapefruit color...slightly turbid. Surprisingly enough there's not a whole lot of head to this deal. Interesting - at first looks more like an American wheat beer. Carbonation is prevalent and climbs slowly up the ladder.

There's a hint of the classic Hefe banana and clove esters with a hint of citric acidity...not quite grapefruit but maybe a pinch of lemon zest. Definitely brings around a good yeast scent and electricity. A little more hoppy than the average bear, maybe?

Damn, this is refreshing if nothing else...but of course there's something else. Way tart on the first gulp when cold but then the clove hits you like a Kung Fu throwing star. A little ginger, too...maybe? It's sharp all over, with a big dollop of yeast and wheat electricity. Hop bite may be subtle but not as subtle as expected for the style. Thoroughly quenching.

Palate feel may have a little too much citrus for my taste but it's still enjoyable. Hops and cloves mix it up well, but the cloves win this battle to keep it light and spritely. Finish is crisp and clean...no caffeine.

This one may not be yo' mammy's Hefeweizen but it's a solid hybrid of a classic Hefe and an American wheat, which is fine by me. And it's a little hoppier to me. Maybe a little bit of extra sourness is the only thing that is a little out of whack but this is a very palatable lawnmower concoction. Nicely done.

a clean golden / orange-yellow pour.. slight amount of head which vanished immediately and completely.
smells of apples, grapes, raisins and banana.. interesting...
the taste starts off with your typical hefe, then jumps to a fruity strawberry banana flavor.. really tasty for a wheat beer.. and i'm barely getting any breadyness from the yeast. thinking outside the box, yazoo!
light body, high carbonation, sweet yet crisp and refreshing.
really good for the style, but i do wish it had some more visible complexion. it looks like it's just a flat beer. no lacing, no retention, carbonation isn't all that visible after the first minute (but it IS still actually there)

Thanks to ckeegan04 for this one. My bottle was poured into a Wiezen glass it looked real nice three fingers worth of white head that goes to a thick lace. The body was a hazy yellow in color interrupted by a bubble or two coming from the bottom of the glass

Aromas of citrus' bubblegum and wheat with a slight sourness as well filled my nose

Flavors of citrus and spices and there is that sourness again it kind of works with this brew .This brew is light and crisp in the mouth.

Good drinkability as well although I haven't had too many I wouldn't drink again. You could kickback a few of these real easy like. A good try at a Hefe not my favorite but not the worst either

A gift from Grant, a top-notch BA. Sampled 1/21/11. A notch on the label indicates bottling in the first week in December.

A: A huge 5 finger head when poured down the center of a hefeweizen glass. Pristinely white, mousse-like, compact foam. The head never completely fades. The body is cloudy and light yellow in color.

S: Bread, wheat and biscuits. Light hops of citrusy lemon. Dried banana and bubblegum. Barely noticeable hint of vanilla. Mild clove suggestions, but the aroma is more fruity esters than it is spicy phenols.

T: The finish is dominated by banana, the only remaining flavor after the effervescence clears the tongue.

M: Spritzy with prickly carbonation. Light to medium body.

D: The flavor and mouthfeel really come together once the beer gains a few degrees and the dies down. Solid brew.

Nose of banana and lemon for the most part. Searched around for the typical cloves in this style, but couldn't find them.

There's some banana on the front, though nowhere near cloying or too "forward". There's also the cloves there as well, which are noticeable in the body of the beer. The finish sees a bit of lemon, plus some sweet wheat that lingers after the swallow.

This is pretty much a hefeweizen by the textbook. It isn't among the absolute best that I've had, as I like bolder flavors in these beers, but it's done pretty well and seeing as how this is brewed in the city in which I live, I should drink it more.
