I had Davy Jones Lager on draft at Max's Taphouse in Fells Point.

A: Shimmering gold color, Thick frothy head about 1/2 in. The beer appears to be well carbonated.

B: Aroma is malty with notes of corn. Hops are present but do not overwhelm.

T: The flavor is well balanced. Slightly "hot" up front but subtle bitterness creates an incredible clean finish. Not exceptionally dry. Corn flavor is present and enjoyable.

M: Creamy and smooth. Very pleasant.

O: This beer was a pleasant surprise. A great beer if you can find it around. I would drink this beer again immediately!

Poured into a perfect pint.

3.0 A: Clear medium yellow color. Two fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is average and no lacing is left.

4.0 S: Super grainy with a sweet grassiness. Vanilla wafer through and through. Part herbal, part earthy, party spicy hop aroma. A damn good smelling cream ale.

3.5 T: Tastes good for a cream ale too. White rice, vanilla wafer, grainy malts. Low bitterness. Earthy hop flavor for the most part. Not bad for what it is.

3.5 M: Light to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Mix of crisp and creamy.

3.5 D: Cream ales aren't the best style, but a lot of breweries manage to make decent ones nonetheless. Good drinkibility.

ok. not my favorite. pours a golden yellow. small head that disapates quickly. steady carbonation but little to no lacing. light aroma of grassy grain. not much finish. light beer that is ok. better offerings from heavy seas.

suckem up and movem out.

An imperial cream ale now that's something different.Poured into an imperial pint glass a lighter peach tinged yellow with a thinner but well defined white head.Sweet alcohol dipped fruit and toasted cereal grain in the nose,to me it was quite boozy.Biscuit malt with a little toastiness behind it mixed with slight herbal hops in the back end,not much complexity on the palate.Not awful but there is no flow to the beer or much complexity,maybe a style that should not be made?

I was a bit skeptical of this one, being a high ABV cream ale? I was thinking it would be along the lines of a malt liquor...I was pleasantly surprised! 22 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a very clear, dark gold color with a fluffy, off-white head. Retention is pretty good and lacing decently sticky.

Nose is similar (but better than) most of the cream ales I have had, despite the higher ABV. Grainy malts and vanilla-cream cookies. Nice, clean smelling beer.

Taste is unique...uber-smooth with a biting hop/alcohol finish. Nice interplay of cream ale and crafty graininess. Did I mention unique? And tasty! A bit hard to describe...like a well crafted cream ale (which is hard to come by in its own right) with a bump up in attitude and fortitude. Let's just say it was a very fun beer to drink...mmmkay.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: The pour is a pure transparent golden yellow with a relaxed white cap. Not much lace, but the head retains pretty well.

Smell: The aroma is relatively soft. Honey biscuit malt, a bit of clover and spice, some corn and vegetable notes as well.

Taste: The flavor is more of the same. Some honey biscuity malt, then a lot of smooth processed corn and a lightly floral end. Slightly metallic and a light hay and grassy hop presence at the end.

Mouthfeel: The body is on the light side. Very clean and simple with a light creamy carbonation.

Overall: I wouldn't drink this again.

Poured assertively - super clear, mega-gold. Slightly off-white head. *Lots* of slow-moving carbonation. Smell is a whole lot of mineral, as well as cereal malts. Taste is the same, with a lot of spicy, almost zesty, citrus notes. Feel is creamy & *hot.* Spicy, metallic, bitter feel lasts a while. Interesting brew, bit on the boozy side, but it's tasty.

22 oz bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Pale yellow with a finger of head that dies quickly.

S: Raisins, caramel, butterscotch, and vanilla.

T: Sweet vanilla, apricot, butterscotch, some graininess, and whisky-like oakiness.

M: Medium-thick and silky body with low carbonation.

O: It's not very complex but the alcohol is well-hidden.

First off, why is this labeled as an imperial pils? Second, how does this qualify as "imperial" even with a 7% ABV? Anyways, I thought this a very tasty, unique beer. Unlike the previous reviewers, I didn't find the alcohol taste present at all. The beer has an interesting "creaminess" (duh) to it, with the smoothness of a lager and the touch of hops from an ale. Nothing too special, but an above average beer that was tasty to swill down.

shared this bomber with my brother, he had to drain pour his share after a couple swallows. pours a cloudy straw yellow with a white billowy head that doesnt last long, but leaves a fair amount of lacing. smells like a sweet grainy hot mess. taste is similiar with the alochol right up front to greet you, then sweet grains and malts to round it off. mouthfeel is a full bodied decent carbonation with a creamy feel to it. unfortunatly it was a bit hot and we both thought it could use a better balance to it.

Not quite sure why BA has this as an American Double/Imperial Pilsner rather than a cream ale, as the brewer proclaims it to be. Reviewing it as a cream ale.

Typical look of a cream ale...light amber (honey color), a bit cloudy, a head that starts off creamy and then flattens out to cap and crown. The heads on cream ales usually last longer, but I suspect that the higher ABV has something to do with the low retention.

The alcohol gets your attention in the first snort. Oak and whiskey stand out as if it had been barrel-aged. Maybe it's the color, but honey also appears in the nose. Malts are hard to pick out ad there's a floral sense that might be coming from hops. Almost smells like a mead brewed from clover honey. Or maybe a braggot.

No hiding the alcohol in the taste either, it's up front and personal. Honey pervades and the hops become more assertive, seeming like one of the German "noble" variety. Malts show up as well, tasting a bit like honey wheat bread. Almost anything you get here takes a backseat to the booze.

Alcohol heat is strong, if you hadn't picked that up yet and the booze really overstays its welcome in the aftertaste. The body isn't all that creamy and there's a stickiness that lingers on the lips.

I was very eager to try this as I'd never tried anything billed as an Imperial Cream Ale before. Curiosity may not have killed the cat in this case, but it certainly will get it wrecked if it finishes this bottle by itself. As for me, I may need something with which to wash this down. May a nice smooth Imperial stout.

22 ounce bottle - $5.49 at Total Wine & More in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clearish, golden-orange body with a sizable head, no more than a finger's worth, and near white in color.

Smell: Grainy, sweetish notes with a slight grassy, hay-like hop hint and some detectable alcoholic sniffs. So far, not the best beer to honor the lead singer of the Monkees, I must say. You'd have to be a Daydream Believer to think this beer was shaping up to be something special.

Taste: Sweet, bready malts, a tad grainy and with a sugary bent to it, like a vending machine jumbo-sized honey bun. Brassy, grassy hops, moderately bitter. Hint of toasted corn cob. Some fairly astringent alcoholic around mid-palate and lasting beyond the drying finish. There's not much to it, and, what's there, well, isn't all that good.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Slightly sticky.

Overall: Some beers can really hide their alcohol content quite well. That's not the case here, sadly. In fact, I was rather surprised to see it listed as being only 7%. But, then again, this Mutiny Fleet series has been full of surprises!

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Thanks to bobpack for this. My first American Double/Imperial Pilsner.

A: Golden orange, with a slight haze. About a 1/4 finger white head that disappears instantly but still leaves good lacing.

S: Light citrusy hops. Big bready malts and grains. Some sweet caramel.

T: Light sweet caramel upfront. A very light bitterness mixed with a bit of spice. A little more than a hint of alcohol coming through in the middle through the finish. Kind of good, kind of not.

M: Medium to full bodied. Low carbonation. Super creamy. Decent dryness. A light alcohol sting.

O: This is an alright beer. If it wasn't for the alcohol it would be a bit better. Pilsners aren't really my style.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into my Bruery tulip. Picked this one up at Rick's a few weeks ago.

a - Pours a hazy medium orange color with two inches of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident. Little retention and light lacing left on the glass.

s - Smells of citrus hops, fruity malts, and light bready malts. A little bland, but not bad at all.

t - Tastes of fruity malts, bready malts, toasted malts, and light citrus. A bit creamy, and a step up from the nose.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation, super smooth and creamy body. Really great.

o - Overall a pretty good cream ale. It had an awesome mouthfeel and some nice fruit in the taste. Would have it again.
