I poured into a goblet, all the better to smell you with, my dear. the color was dark, dark golden, a kind of murky brown actually. It didn't generate much head, and what there was dissipated except for a ring around the edge and a bit of misty foam in the middle. A little lacing, but it's more soapy foam than sticky residue. The aroma was yeasty, fruity, spicy, with some musty raisins, some coriander and orange peel, and some soapy and floral background undertones. Not a lot of hops in the aroma, if any.
A sip delivers pleasant, if complex, flavors. There's a good amount of general bittering that balances out the fruits and spices. A little bit of apple cider and cinnamon, and some celery and chicory, then it fades off to bitter graininess. One sip leads to the next, and I know there are more flavors in there, if I could tease them out. Mouthfeel is light with pleasant prickly carbonation, no cloying sweet stickiness. The strong flavors mask the alcohol content well. As it warms, the flavor profile picks up some sourness, a nice touch.
Overall, it's a pleasant brew. I like that it's not sweet, it's refreshing. The abundant flavors seem rather muddled to me, but this is a brew to keep on hand and enjoy, another in the arsenal of Belgian-style IPAs that remind us of the many brewing traditions. It's not really an IPA, by any stretch - it doesn't deliver a good hit of hops flavor, it just uses substantial hop bitterness as a good foil to all the fruity and spicy flavors that have been created or dumped in there. While it's not a shining example of how yeast can produce exotic fruity goodness, it is a brew that's substantial, worthy, and enjoyable. I plan to keep buying it, because I'd rather be firing off the cannon that dealing with some off-the-wall female dog. Arrrgh!

I am pretty sure that this came to me from local, in-person trader, tone77. Many thanks!
From the bottle: "A variation of our 'Loose Cannon' IPA, fermented with a Belgian Dubbel yeast culture - tangy hops with a spicy aroma."; "Another fine mess ...".
I liked the way that this poured, creating two fingers of dense, light-tan head with excellent retention. Color was a deep copper with NE-quality clarity, reminiscent of a shiny, newly minted penny. Nose was big with minty hops; musty, peppery yeast and a bit of alcohol heat. Mouthfeel was surprisingly soft, albeit with a good bit of heat and the flavor was very spicy, as though the hops simply teamed up with the yeast to really bring a bite to my tongue. Finish was extremely dry and moderately hot. Phew! This was quite good for one, but I would not want more than a couple at a time.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is is slightly sweet, some hops. Taste is well balanced hops and malts, a touch of citrus, smooth and easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit different, and a quality beer.

Poured into a glass mug.
A: Clear copper with two-finger, white, frothy head that lasted more than a few minutes. Pretty good lacing.
S: Caramel malt and light citrus aromas.
T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. More sweet and less hoppy than I was expecting.
M: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
O: Interesting. This is the first Belgian IPA I've had. Not awesome, but I'll definitely try another.
