Pours a nice cloudy golden yellow, with a finger of white head that vanishes a little too quickly. Nose is primarily wheat malt, with just a touch of ripe bananas and some slight clove as the beer warms. Taste follows the nose, a wheaty malt infused with lemon zest and a touch of banana, a slight clove spiciness on the finish. Body is on the light side of medium with the carbonation on the low side. Overall, this doesn't match real German Hefes, but is better than most American wheat ales.

This is a good Hefe, made even better by the fact that the bottle I purchased from Elm Street Liquors in Somerville, MA had an expiration date a year passed due. This beer is a Clipper City product and BA doesn't have much about the Oxford Brewing Co. that is on the label, listed as Baltimore, MD. There was an Oxford Brewery in OH that is now closed. The beer pours a fairly carbonated, pale, reasonably clear golden with zero head, retention, or lacing. The aroma is quite nice with ample cloves, some ringwood type yeast smells, and citrus and florals.

The taste is quite good and refreshing. This is a pretty spiced up hefe, slightly more syrupy and medium bodied than what is typical, and loaded with clove, sweet florals, perhaps a touch of something in the allspice family with a honey like touch. There is a floral, perfumey, honeylike character to this hefe that makes it interesting, and a bit more complex than is usual for the style. The mouthfeel is light, not much aftertaste, and there is no drying imparts in the finish. This is a good beer, I only wish I more carefully checked the freshness date.

Pours a hazy yellow, with a very soft, frothy head. Smells of wheat, yeast, and lemon. Tastes of citrus and a lot of cloves, a hint of banana, and a touch of hops. It also had a semi-dry finish. This was one of the more carbonated beers I have had. Overall, this was a pretty good attempt at a hefeweizen by Clipper City.

Appearance: Pours a hazy honey color with a huge head that sticks and laces like a hefe should

Smell: Dominated by clove, with undertones of banana and pepper

Taste: A bit of banana up front, but the clove kicks in and makes this one spicy, peppery hefe; way too sweet, as well; after the swallow, the flavor profile picks up an apple character, as well

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with prickly carbonation

Drinkability: Full of flavor, and that was a surprise, but it is just not the flavor profile I would prefer; too much clove, not enough banana and much too sweet

Clear yellow body like a macro lager. Tiny white head with almost no retention or lacing.

Musty wheat smell with hints of bannana.

Taste has a good amount of wheat, with notes of citrus, coriander and bannana. Bannana definitely dominates the flavor. Mouthfeel is thin and watery.

Average drinkability at best.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, yellow body with a small, quickly thinning, white head.

Smell: Malted wheat aroma with middling notes of stale, dried citrus peel, banana, and coriander.

Taste: Sweet malted wheat flavor, a bit crackery. No real defining hop character or bitterness. Light coriander, banana, spice, and a dull taste of citrus. Sweetish, bready finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Rather coating mouthfeel, I'm left looking around for a glass of cool, cleansing water.

Drinkability: I am dissatisfied by this hefe. Mediocre, at best.

Pours to a hazy golden yellow with thin white head that lingers thru mid glass and leaves okay lacing. Nose is a pleasant mix of clove, orange peel, wheat dough and bananas. Mouthfeel is a bit on the tangy side, and the flavor mirrors the nose, yet adds some apple. Finish is pleasant, but make sure you drink this cold. I let it sit a little long before finishing , and aftertaste became a bit stale as beer warmed. Would make a nice summer thirst quencher though.

Very nice, nothing that particularly grabs me as outstanding but a solid entry overall.

A= lighter slightly hazy yellow, modest to minimal head, little to no lacing.

S= nice presence, wheat, slight florals and hints of citrus and light spice.

T= smooth, clean for a hefe but not like a kristl-heffe; balanced mild tastes of wheat, citrus and spice, very modest on the hops bite.

M= clean, a little residue with some nice reminiscences.

D= very drinkable in singles or in quantity, a good hefe session-beer.

12 oz bottled poured into a pilsner - 2007 bottling - Cellar temp

Appearance: Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a very minimal 1/4" white head. No carbonation activity, no lacing.

Smell: Strong wheat aroma with clove as a huge aroma. Cinnamon, caramelized orange peel.

Taste: Wheat flavor, lemon, strong clove again. Mildly sugared and peppery.

Mouthfeel: Slick and kind of flat. Not as chewy as a GOOD Hefe should be. No alcohol presence.

Drinkability: Quenching and pretty tasty. This was a great beer for the $15 case price. A summer beer for sure.

12 oz into favorite Trappist glass.

A: Not cloudy at all like I imagined. A nice rich golden color. I thought it would have a big head, but its has the tinest of heads that vanishes completely. Not much lacing there either.

S: Cloves, bananas, maybe a hint of cinnamon.

T: Tastes like it smells. I'm not too familiar with Hefeweizens, but I really like this beer.

M: Feels pretty good.

D: Not bad, might be a bit too sweet, but I need to develop a better taste for this kind of beer. I am too used to the more malt and hop varieties.

This was without a doubt worth the $5.99 I paid for this six-pack. Not knowing what to expect, this beer poured a nice off-color yellowish appearance. There was a decent smell but nothing to write home about... The taste was average-good for a hefe, I've tried better and worse, but definitely worth a try. There is a strong citrusy/banana taste present that makes you thirst for another one. The drinkability is certainly good, it is an easy drink and you could put down quite a few of these. Would definitely go for this again, but it can't compare to some German styles I've sampled... All in all, an average brew leaning more towards the better side than the worse...

A: Pours a hazy murky yellow color with a rather small head for a hefe. What does suprise a bit is the lacing. It is not much to rave about, but this here hefe has lacing a nice suprise.

S: Your normal hefe fair. Banana, yest, lemon zest, and clove all in nearly equal parts.

T: Not a bad hefe. The aromas come thru in the taste. The yeastiness if very nice and compliments the banana and lemon zest. There is just enough clove to make this one worth drinking.

M: Nice light and bubbly.

D: Not too bad actually.

Overall: I had Clipper City's Oxfrod Raspberry and was not impressed. For that reason this one fell to the back of the beer fridge and just lingered. I popped it today because the best buy date was coming up. I was actually suprised. It is not the best hefe in the world, but it is a nice drinking brew. I just wish I had cracked it open on a hot Florida summer day rather than a balmy fall day.

Fairly clear for a hefeweizen, gold bodied with a short white head that fades rapidly. It’s got an aroma of green bananas, wheat flakes, a touch of clove, and a drop of lemon juice. It tastes mainly of wheat flakes and watery lemon juice with a bit of banana thrown in as an afterthought, any spiciness dropping from the picture. Not the best hef, but a decent one nonetheless.

Fogged lemony amber topped by a three finger crown of eggshell colored foam. A vigorous swirl and a second pour murk things up nicely. The head has a firmly creamy texture and is tacky enough to grace the glass with a good bit of bubble bath-like lace.

A single whiff tells me that Oxford Hefeweizen isn't really Oxford American Pale Wheat Ale. One never knows what a brewery will claim and then fail to deliver. Lemon zest is at least as prominent as banana... with clove falling far behind.

This Clipper City offering is all kinds of flavorful, I'll give it that. Trouble is, if judged alongside Germany's best (or even America's best) it falls a fraction short. Some hefe weizens favor sweet, some favor tangy and a very few favor bitter. This one is ample amounts of all three at once. Especially sweet.

As in the nose, the ass kickin' yeast strain saturates the taste buds with lemon and sugared banana (banan-o-meter score of 4.0/5.0). Warm clove still lurks, as does white pepper. This is anything but a simple, clean version. I can't decide if that's a strength or a weakness, but it sure does make each mouthful an adventure.

The mouthfeel favors medium-full for the style. I'm guessing that more malt is present (both barley and wheat) than is typical. A silky beginning and middle turn into a semi-viscous finish that is the antithesis of crisp.

Oxford Hefeweizen is actually a pretty good stab at an honest to goodness German hefe. The fact that the flavor profile and the mouthfeel are all over the style map is part of its charm. I enjoyed this one.

A beer with a classy wine label. Justified. Classy beer.
Nice golden yellow hefeweisen cloudiness. Nice 2" head that dissipated quickly. Little lacing.
Smell was spice and wheat, with some banana.
Taste was banana, mild clove spiciness, and the pleasant wheat.
As it warmed, the carbination lessened, and the beer was a little thin.
This is a very enjoyable beer.

Poured into weizen glass:

Pours golden yellow with more of a slight chill haze than the expected cloudiness. A thick fluffy head descends to a lasting thin cover. Trailing lace sticks to glass.

The smell is of banana/clove - a bit light on the banana while a touch heavy on the clove. Slight hints of alcohol come through for a glimpse.

The taste is of clove with mild banana. Wheat doughiness is there. Light and crisp with a candyish sweet finish.

Appropriately light-bodied and exceptionally smooth, this disappears quickly leaving a pleasant, refreshing aftertaste.

Overall, it doesn't really stand up to the Bavarian classics, but is a nice, very inoffensive/highly drinkable American interpretation of the style.

Poured a cloudy medium straw hue with a finger and a half foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured some yeast esters with a strong lemon aroma. There was a subtle banana aroma as well.

The taste consisted of a chewy wheat malt wih some mild spice. Lemon zest element as well.

The mouthfeel was of medium chewiness.

Overall a decent hefe. Nothing to really write home about however.

Sampled from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass at 50 degrees.

A - Cloudy pale-yellow color with a foamy white head. Good amount of carbonation as the head dissipates.

S - Oranges and bananas mixed with cloves. Typical wheat aroma, but more on the spice end.

T - The fruits reclaim the flavor from the spices as banana and grapefruit is much more powerful than in the aroma. Finishes with cloves and a yeasty taste. More enjoyable the more I drank.

M - Light body, but a little heavier than other hefe weizens. A little tangy on the finish; this was a nice twist.

D - A good hefe weizen. It actually hit the spot on a cooler night, too.

Clear straw color with a nice white head, fairly good carbonation, and slightly cloudy after the last pour. Moderate banana-clove yeast profile in both aroma and flavor. A solid Bavarian hefe but a bit on the lighter side of the yeast profile. Medium bodied and creamy smooth; fruity and refreshing with a light spicy clove finish.

For a filtered hefe it was pretty good. If they had left the yeast in this would have been way better. Crystal slight darken gold with a litle white head that doesn't lace. Smells of bubblegum and bannana pretty much a typical hefe. The taste has a lot of really nice qualities about it but the flavors of the yeast themselves is missing and the flavor seem artifical without them here and the mouthfeel is degraded too. However, I pound through three of these brewing this weekend and at the current $6 a sixer I will revisit this again this summer.

A - Slightly hazy golden yellow with a two finger head that dissipates in about a minute. Extremely intense visible carbonation, no lacing at all.

S - Strong odors of honey dew melon, banana, cloves, honey, and some more conventional wheat grain aroma. A slight mustiness, but that is barely noticable.

T - Bland wheat grain and a very faint honey dew sweetness. The flavor is watery and lacking in depth. The aftertaste is mild stale grain.

M - Thin and too highly carbonated. Refreshing though.

D - I will pass on this in the future. It is easy to drink, extremely mild, but it isn't that good. I imagine that it would work with food. Went fairly well with the Gruyere I had concurrently.
