A - Pours adjunct lageresque straw-yellow with about five fingers of head in the glass and god knows how much on the floor. This is all from about the most gentle pour possible. More bubbles in the body of the beer than I've ever seen (even in seltzer or soda). So far, all signs point to it being massively overcarbed.

S - The nose is actually quite pleasant and intriguing. It has banana esters very reminiscent of a hefeweizen as well as under-ripe fruit and a slight phenol character. Lastly, there's a slight distinct peppery note.

T - Taste is mostly sweet grain. Black pepper is present throughout, coming through strongest when swallowed or held on the tongue. The fruitiness advertised on the label mostly came through in the form of banana flavor, though there's very very slight tartness comparable to green apple, pear, or white grape.

M - Good lord, I can actually feel the carbonation pushing my jaws apart.

D - The biggest obstacle to drinkability is waiting for the head to recede. The beer's flavor offers no impedance to drinking fast, other than the grain-and-pepper aftertaste getting a bit old. One of the big pluses of this beer is that it hides its 7.5% ABV remarkably well.

As many flaws as I did find with this beer, It's still a pretty good deal at roughly $8/6-pack. I'm generally not one for taking style into consideration when reviewing a beer, but this one improves drastically when you stop expecting a saison. Expect a slightly above-average hefeweizen or American wheat and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
