2010: Hopped with Sorachi, Cascade, Saaz and Amarillo
2011: Almost the same recipe as 2010.

The beer is dark brown with an orange tone, a dark beige head which leaves a little lacing.
The smell is complex with notes of grapefruit, coffee, malt, and some some "Christmas" spice (ginger?).
The taste fulfills the promises of the smell, and further increases the complexity with dark (almost burnt) bread. Very little sweetness, but in the chocolate toffee area.
The beer is creamy and leaves a warm afterglow of rich bitter tones.
In all a very good winter beer, to enjoy slowly whilst the snow is falling.

Nils Oscar Julöl Vintage 2010
A: Pours a rufous-to-russet (dark red brown) colour along with a small crown of buff-to-chamiosee (tanned light brown/beige) colour. No carbonation is visible
S: Yeast, sweet dough, oranges, plums, chocolate, some bitter chocolate and hints of ginger.
T: At first a smoky and charcoal malt notes, slight sourness in the middle followed by a faint hint of caramel/toffee. Furthermore, there is coffee notes in the background accompanied by a subtle but lingering hop-bitterness, which gradually reveals itself throughout the tasting.
M: Full and round with a warming finish.
O: It has matured very well, very well indeed. Solid experience.

A: Pours a brown liquid with hints of red into the glass. The liquid is clear. The head is light brown but dissolves quickly.
S: The smell is grapefruit, coffee, toffee, hazelnuts and faint tones of ginger. Dark roasted chocolate malts at the end. Nice!
T: It tastes crisp bread, coffee, dark chocolate and grapefruit. The coffee and grapefruit are noticeable both at the beginning at the end. There is a much maltier body in between. I can also find very, very delicate tones of ginger.
M: The body is medium with medium carbonation. Smooth liquid.
O: A very nice Winter session beer. Very well balanced and with a great smell.

A: The pour is deep burgundy with a rather short-lived beige soapy head that leaves little lace.
S: Light roasted sweet malt. Notes of chocoalte and dark dried fruits. Faint floral hops (I'm guessing american and something else). Coffee as well.
T: The taste is a lot like the smell, but way more bitter. The malt feels a bit heavier roasted than in the smell, and caramell notes from the malt is noticable.
M: The body is full and the carbonation is moderate. An alcoholic feel to it (in the best of ways). The long-lasting after-taste is a bit sweet and really bitter. It lasts all evening.
D: A really nice winter beer. Heavy in taste, yet gently balanced. The boys at Nils Oscar doesn't dissapoint anyone with anything.
