As noted, Beach Chalet overlooks the aptly-named Ocean Beach. Go up the stairs and you will find a busy, and somwhat classy, dining room bustling with families, tourists and waitstaff. You can wait for a table that looks out at the beach - and where Gidget and Moondoggie are no doubt hanging ten - or you can find a place at the bar to the right as you enter. You can see the brewing tanks from here as well.
Beach Chalet offers a variety of styles - about a dozen beers, one of which was on cask during my visit. A six-beer sampler runs about $8.00. They also bottle their beer to take home. ( I took home two by the way.)
The menu seemed a bit hoity-toity; of course, I am not some swell that descends from a Pacific Heights loft when in need of victuals. In any case, the food was pretty good - I chose the roast beef dip. Service was efficient, but hurried. Obviously turnaround is important, so you should have a few pints without lingering.
Beach Chalet is adjacent to Golden Gate Park and is accessible to Muni (the public transit system.) An enjoyable lunch with some decent beers.

i went to beach chalet brewing for the first time last weekend. i went on sunday night and it was a bit crowded. i got a seat in the bar area almost right away. if you want to sit at a table you should make a reservation. amazing view looking over the ocean. it was extremely cold and windy when i was there but it was nice to watch from inside. i first had there seasonal saison which was excellent. after that i got the sampler. i remember all of the beers being very good, but i think they were out of a few of them. my favorite was probably the saison. the wheat was also quite good. we ended up getting the wings to eat which were pretty good. i would definitely make it a point to go here if you're in san fran...also walk through golden gate park and see the buffalo!

First stop on brewpub tour of SF. Located across street from beach/ocean in northwest part of SF. When you walk in you are in a museum that showcases the swimming/bathing facility that this place once was. Straight ahead and down some steps brings you to the bar.
My friend and i had a sampler of 8 beers (?). Beers ran the gamut from light easy drinking beers like Hopsession (top pick here for us) and a porter. We found the beers to be solid, a few misses, but all in all nice beers. Didn't try the food but what I did see others eating looked good.
Value and service were good and the barkeep knew her beer. I would come back to see what the brewer has whipped up.

Went here on a trip to San Francisco. We ended our day long trek through the beautiful Golden Gate Park with a beer and dinner at the Beach Chalet.
The restaurant is upstairs, which provides a great view of the beach and surrounding area. At the time we went, the sun was streaking in the windows and the glare was bad, but we still enjoyed the view.
Our server was very nice and friendly. We asked her about the area to the north (Cliff House and the Sutro Bath ruins) and she recommended we check it out, which we did (pretty cool area and it's not a bad hike along the beach).
The beer and food were excellent, albeit a little pricey. But we were very hungry/thirsty from our day at the Park, so we didn't mind paying a little more for atmosphere and convenience, plus it's San Francisco - not sure that a cheap meal exists for wandering tourists.
Will definitely try to go back someday.

Located on the second floor of the Beach Chalet on the western edge of Golden Gate Park, the table seating along the windows and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The doorway opens onto the m.d.s. to the immediate left with the restaurant area beyond the m.d.s. The "U"-shaped dark marble and blonde wood bar ran along the right wall and overlooked the brewhouse. Although it was undoubtedly a clean, well-lighted place for beer, I cannot really dun its ambiance. The music was 1940's and '50's crooners and standards. I went with the Black Forest Ham sandwich for lunch. Great barter among the waitstaff.
Beers: VFW Light; Ocean Beach Oktoberfest; CA Kind Ale; Riphide Red; Presidio IPA; Fleishhacker Stout; Dee's Bitter Ale (D.B.A.);the Brewer's Special was a "Harvest Ale", utilizing fresh, wet hops; plus Celebration Ale, a spiced holiday beer. Further the IPA was on gravity pour and DBA was on ahnd pump. Holly Heaven, Batman!
Also, their liquor selection was top shelf (pun intended). A BT of Johnnie Blue waved to me, as did a BT of Old Potrero.
Waitstaff all in black. I might have offset it with white aprons, but I'm an aesthete.
Bomber BTs of their six (6) standards, for you to-go junkies.

Park Chalet Garden Restaurant: A bar downstairs with the m.d.s. to the right and a working fireplace dead ahead. Off to the left was the inverted "J"-shaped blonde wood bar. Lots of standard restaurant tables and chairs to the right. The bar area was a mix of standard and high tables and chairs. Much jazzier music down here. Patio seating with killer view during season.

Great location on San Francisco's great highway at ocean beach. Excellent beer selection and they had a cask ale to boot. Would you believe it was served in a British pint glass! One brewpub that seems to know what it's doing. My complaints are that it's too upscale and expensive. Most of the people in there looked liked they belonged at wineries. Mixed feelings overall. Just went back and had lunch, food was great! My burger was so good it was scary. Suzanne and her mom were along and had a salad. it came with real S.F. sourdough bread, which I destroyed on the spot. I still feel it's way too upscale and expensive. It works though as they are expanding, that's good. I lso don't like that their bottled beer is way too stiff. They want 4.50 for a bomber! Still a nice place.

After the Toronado Barleywine Festival became too crowded for my taste, I thought heading to the beach on the 70 degree day was a good alternative. Apparently I wasn't the only person to have this idea. The outdoor patio was PACKED, and I could not get service at the bar, despite waiting in line for 15-20 minutes. Okay, that seriously blew. All I wanted was a pitcher. So I decided to go upstairs and stay inside. This worked better. Pulled two high tables together for my group of 6 and got very good wait service even though the place was crowded. There was a selection of 7-8 house brews on tap and of course we opted for the double IPA. It seemed more like a regular IPA, but it was very tasty and enjoyable. No idea what the ABV was. The menu seemed a bit steep, but we were just snacking so it wasn't that bad. $6 for a medium size plate of garlic fries, and about $4 for a cub of clam chowder that was incredible. The second pitcher we got was an Altbier and also quite enjoyable/drinkable. This is a fantastic brewpub and a great place to watch the surf and the sunset. Glad that they've started bottling and I hope they continue to increase distribution.

We visitied the Beach Chalet at night so i didn't get to see the view of the Pacific Ocean on this occasion! The Beach Chalet is easy to find and is located above the visitors center at the ocean end of Golden Gate Park. Arriving on a Sunday night we found the bar fairly busy and sat ourselves at the bar itself. The staff were very friendly, well informed and offered us samples of the beers on offer. My VFW light was just what i needed!
An excellent brewpub, probably very touristy during the summer, worth combining with a daytime walk through the park and a stroll down Ocean Beach.

Located in a really nice spot overlooking the ocean and at the end of golden gate park, the beach chalet is a pretty cool art deco building, with murals on the ground floor and the bar/restaurant one up. The place was extremely busy when we got there (it was new year's eve after all), but service was quick and efficient, and our food arrived soon after ordering. Everything was a bit pricey, and we erred towards the more traditional options, which were very well prepared. When we visited they had eight taps of their own brews (of vastly differing quality). I can't recall the cost of the sampler carousel, but it seemed to represent good value, and it was pretty cool drinking a beer and watching the waves crash.

This place is great, just a 10 minute walk down the great highway at the Pacific ocean from the last N-Judah light rail stop. The atmosphere is great with the second floor dining room being one of the preimer places in the city to watch the sunset in the evening. The quality of the beers is usually very good, but the selection can be a little limp at times...still the fantastic ambiance of the dining room and the great views and fantastic (although a bit pricey) food and service more than make up for it in this gem of a restaurant...of all of the brewpubs in San Francisco, this is definately the classiest one and one of the only ones i'd take a date to...
