A really small white head quickly dissipates into a very thin lacing above a clear pale straw golden colored beer.
A light lemony citrus aroma that has a distinct light hops to it.
Light lemony citrus with a slight hops bitterness coming through in a light taste.
A very light bitter tint on a dry aftertaste with this light bodied beer.
A really light tasting beer without the yukky aftertaste of beers like Bud Light, etc.

James Page White Ox Wheat Ale
Average dark yellow and nice cloudiness.
Apricot and peach aroma, with a mild peppery herb essence. Nice and light. Wheat malt.
Easy on the palate. Clean and crisp, peppery aftertaste.
A little watery, but very drinkable.
---
Re-review:
Pours cloudy blonde with medium size bubbles in the white frothy head.
Sweet, fruity, light orange, light citrus.
Highly drinkable with great carbonation
Flavors are subtle.
Great beer that would pair with just about anything in the spring/summer months.
Incredible value. Local. No change in grade.

Saw this for the first time in KC, so I decided to pick up a bottle in a mix a six. Poured a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish Head snifter. This beer pours a **slightly** hazy straw with a meager 2 inch head that turned into nothing. No lacing, no retention. Kind of ugly. The aroma is, well, watery with a slight bit of wheat malt and just a meager hint of banana. The flavor is mostly the same. Just really average. Nothing particularly overwhelming or underwhelming. Just middle of the road. No hops are discernible in the profile. The mouthfeel is light and finish with just a hint of sweetness. This maybe the most mediocre beer I've ever had. Definitely would be in the top 10.

A - Poured out a somewhat cloudy, very bubbly, straw yellow color with a two-finger, white head with a good deal of tiny bubbles. Little to no lacing.
S - It smelled of citrus, wheat and some yeast. Not much else.
T - It tasted of lemon and wheat. Somewhat sweet with no bitterness or any hop presence.
M - This one is pretty thin and a touch watery. A very light bodied brew.
D - This is a work in progress. It was dull and bland.

This brew pours a hazy lemon yellow into my sample glass, thick and rich white head appears and has some staying power. The head also leaves behind thin lace rings on the way down. Lots of yeasties on the bottle bottom.
Subtle aromas of wheat malt with tibbits of banana and clove - and I mean way in the background. The malt is the key player here and shows up well in the quaff. Tasty wheat ale, this would work well in the summer heat, and is enjoyable even in the middle of winter. Very good session beer.
Wish the label had a bottling date, so I could see how fresh is this brew.
Don't know why some reviews bash this brew, it's a pale wheat ale and not some hammerhead barley or DIPA. Review to style.

Pours a cloudy, maize color. 1/6 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of wheat, yeast, slight pale hop, and a hint of clove. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carobnation level. Tastes of wheat, yeast, slight hop, slight citrus, and slight spice. Overall, a good body and blend.

12oz bottle into a fluted tasting glass.
Hazy yellow, white head
Nose is faint. Mustiness covering some apple and orange citrus, and a lactic touch and subtle corinander.
Taste is weak and thin, not inspiring in the slightest.
This one might put the fire out on some hot wings, but other than that...

Poureed into a chilled pint glass.
It's a cloudy, straw-yellow with a fluffy white head.
She smells of cereal and wheat malt with a touch of spice (orange?cloves?).
Tastes like that too with light and sweet hue that is overall fairly dry.
Wouldn't get this one on purpose again, but if someone offered either this or a glass of wine to me, only then would I go for this brew again, but it is pretty banal and boring.

Poured into a pint glass.
A-Pale white head, low retention to nearly nothing. Slightly hazy golden-straw beer; not as hazed as most unfiltered wheat beers.
S-Wheat malts, crisp, with a hint of watered-down citrus. Aroma is overall pretty weak.
T-Cloves, wheaty malt, sweet breads. Citrus is remarkably absent. Tastes too thin, unbalanced toward the sweet side. Tastes grainy, feels grainy. Finshes somewhat sweet with the week puckering dryness.
M-Flabby medium-light body with medium carbonation, too low of level for the style. Lacking the umph and pizazz in the feel that a wheat beer needs.
D-Low, in that it's relatively boring and a poor representation of the style. Still, I have found myself enjoying this beer while cruising a lake on a pontoon. That's pretty much what this one is good for.

Pours a hazy, pale yellow with a large white head that had good retention. Heavy lacing is left on the glass. The smell consists of a light lemon aroma and wheat malt. The flavor is straight on American Wheat Ale. Very boring. Just a hint of citrus is detected besides the malt. No signs of anything coming from the yeast. The body is light and the carbonation is good for the style. With so many better wheat ales and hefe's out there today, this one can easily be bypassed.

Light in color close to white and fluorescent green more than gold. Light prickle and sparkling head. Neutral malt nose. Sour notes to the attack but a clean flavor. The beer gives a poor first impression on the palate. Effervescent type of mouthfeel and a clean finish as far as the flavor is concerned but there is some residual "alka-seltzer" like bubbliness. I would call this a C-.

James Page White Ox Wheat Ale pours a big stiff head over a slightly cloudy
yellow brew. Carbonation is active, the nose is wheat and a whiff of citus. The
flavor is slightly sweet wheat and not a whole lot of anything else- maybe a note
of lemon. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth but light. There is a bit of lemon in the after
taste. Pretty much a standard American Wheat Ale. In this case the brewer elected
to use a neutral American Ale yeast strain and it shows- there's none of the bananna,
clove, or bubblegum notes you can get with a Belgian or German yeast strain. I guess
I can understand the rationale- a neutral flavor for American tastes- but there are just so
damn many beers on the market just like this one. James Page, of course, is contract
brewed at the Steven's Point Brewery, who brew a wheat beer of their own. It would be
interesting to have done a comparison, but chances are it's pretty similar. This beer is
refreshing enough, it just doesn't really distinguish itself.

Got this as part of a mixed 12 pack.
Appearance: Almost clear light gold body, big white head that was loose and foamy... not as creamy as I prefer with my favorite wheats.
Smell: Grainy, with light wheat and some banana scent. Very subdued.
Taste: Not much here. A little citrus and a very little creamy banana. Just a little above average in my book.
Mouthfeel: Too fizzy for my taste. Not as creamy as my favorite wheats.
Drinkablility: Nothing terrible about this beer, it's a safe wheat beer. Just nothing to write home about.

Aroma shows a nice light touch of fruitiness that is slightly sweet. A bit of pale malt flattens it out. Very light and soft.
1/2 inch head soon fizzles out leaving a smear of bubbles surrounded by a ring. Cloudy pale yellow gold.
Nice wheat flavor is primary. Some yeast towards the finish. Touch of sweetness up front. Subtle dryness. Actually more complex than I anticipated. As it warms I like how the flavors of the barley malt blend with the wheat.
Actually fairly heavy feel that's lightened some by the abundant carbonation.
Based on the reviews I thought this might be bad. It's not For what it is it is certainly a serviceable beer that could hit the spot on a hot summer day.

Looks like a cloudy BUD and has a head that is gone in a split second. Somewhat sharp and spicy aroma. Same for the flavor-crisp and clean with a snap. Slight hop bite and a mellow spiciness to it. Somewhat citrusy. Average body. Very macro-ish and thin. Rather average overall. Dont know what this would cost for a six pack but I think I would prefer a BUD or other macro at the price.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a clear, yellow-gold color with a thin bubbly head. Smell is pretty grainy, sort of champagne like... no real wheat to speak of. The taste is also grainy and there is a skunkyness about it that isn't pleasing. I'm not sure if this beer is past its prime or what the problem is. I hope this is not what the beer was intended to taste like. The mouthfeel is light and very lightly carbonated. If it tasted a little better this beer might be drinkable. Both their pale ale and red were much better than this.

$5.99/Six Pack
JR Liquor
Stevens Point, Wisconsin
Appearance - A hazy yellow pour with nearly no head. Once the bottle emptied it offered a hint of head but it lasted only a few seconds. It doesn't have that glow that I like to accompany my wheats. It looks watery with a dirty haze. It doesn't look very inviting.
Smell - It smells better than it looks. A deep citrus aroma that is hard to pick up. The issue limiting the scent is the faintness and difficulty to recognize.
Taste - The citrus comes through but doesn't overwhelm the overall flavor. There is a subtle hoppy finish that really begs for another sip.
Mouthfeel - There's a thickness I didn't expect but do enjoy. The carbonation hits the back sides of my tongue in a slightly abrasive manner.
~ While I have enjoyed better wheat beers this isn't bad. For the price I'd happily bring a sixer to share with a group after a bike ride or just sittin' around the campfire. It is a good summer beverage as it does have a refreshing characteristic to it.

Not a great beer, but not a bad one either. I found its appearance to be too similar to that of a straw yellow macro. And the taste, while quite delightfully smooth, had no backbone and felt a bit watered down. Drinks very easy, almost too easy. On a hot day, worth a try.

Pours a very very clear yellow with a medium white head. Lacing sticks to the glass like glue. So thick, it doesn't even look like lacing. Active bubbling throughout half the drinking session.
Aroma started out a little stale, with a hint of skunk. After a little while, I was unable to pick up any aroma. Which, in this particular case, was a good thing.
Flavor is a little lacking. For a wheat beer, I'd expect some haze and some... wheat flavor. A very light ale, just a hint of thickness, and a small amount of citrus sweetness.
Mouthful started out a little light and fizzy. I either got used to it, or it settled down. Since the bubbling on the side ended half way through, I'm going to guess this beer just needs some airing due to bottling. It wasn't quite as crisp as I would have expected. I suppose the 'wheat' part of the beer may have thickened it up just a bit.
Drinkability was fine. But so is tap water. Even though I may have complained about this beer, there was nothing particularly unpleasant about it. Just lacking in so many areas, and quite boring.

Sparkling banana with waxy lemon trim. Atop the beer sits a good-sized eggshell white cap that delivers a quality look. It's rumpled rather than rocky and leaves a good bit of delicate, although somewhat watery, lace. I'm not sure what else one could expect from an APWA.
The nose is certainly nothing to write home about. In fact, it's the very definition of bland. I was a little confused about the style prior to smelling White Ox, but no longer. The name and the 'hint of citrus' description leads one to think witbier. However, the lack of orange peel and/or coriander puts it squarely in the pale wheat ale camp.
I like the addition of what I'm guessing is lemon peel since it adds something of value to the white wheatiness. Unfortunately, the rest of the flavor profile needs a little help. It's generic, uninteresting and in need of a major injection of pizzaz. While bitterness is (slightly) favored over sweetness, there isn't much hop flavor to be had.
The mouthfeel is apppropriately light. That doesn't mean that more girth wouldn't be welcome. Rather than soft, though, the beer feels a little harsh in the mouth. It could be the carbonation I guess, but it doesn't strike me as overly bubbled. The average train just keeps rollin' along.
Iron Range Amber Lager has been the only James Page beer that has come anywhere close to impressing me. White Ox Wheat Ale is just another dull plodder in a style that is hardly full of thoroughbreds. This beast wasn't quite a burden to get down, but I have no desire to drink it again.

Into a pint glass, pours a pale clear yellow with a little initial head, then none, little lacing. Aroma is thin, citrus, slight wheatiness in there, bland. Taste is likewise, citrus and light wheat malting with medium carbonation and body. Very eh, one and done.

Light, cloudy yellow color with a large fizzy white head. Head dwindles, carbonation seems low after the initial rush. Smell is semi lemony but more of a wheat adjunct type aroma. Taste begins adjunct like sweet. Dries out in the middle and a weird metallic type flavor comes. Goes quickly as well. Some off fruit flavors. Too sweet, weird. Finishes citric with a touch of lemon. I really just didn't enjoy this beer.

Pours a very light yellow with a matching light head. Color reminded me of many wits I have seen. Citrus predominated which is not hard to do in this very light brew. Some sweetness in the middle. This was not unpleasent just not a whole lot going on. Drink this one cold on a hot summer day. Lawnmower beer. Thanks to JeffKrenner for the bottle.

A simple but tasty wheat. A bit more than the average pale wheat with a bit of citrus and belgian flavor. Very easy drinking and refreshing. No, there isnt much in the neighborhood of flavor, but its pleasant and sweet and goes down easy. Possible crossover beer or a Blue Moon replacement.
