Smaller than the bigger two shops in the cities, but still offering most of what is needed. Smaller selection of extract, grains and only Wyeast yeast, but all has been fresh and usable, and offering enough to do most basic recipes. The help is average if you go in the store, at times my brother has reported that it's bordered on rude, but that has not been my experience. They also do mail order and have their own web site. More convenient for those who live in the south and west areas of the metro.

I frequently shop at WindRiver online. Scott is always availble to help with my questions over the phone, and orders are always processed quickly.
I recently had a rush order that needed to get milled, packaged and out the door in 20 minutes to help me save on shipping. WindRiver filled the order and got in the mail for the 3-day shipping rate.
Kits, ingrediants, packaging are all of high quality. The Bagpipe Ale is a good extract kit.
Being a smaller store there selection is somewhat limited, but only when compared to their largest competitors.
Finally the best reason to shop with WindRiver, the price. In my experience they are the most economical of the online homebrew shops.

I was looking for 300L Light Roasted Barley, and this was one of the stores that carried it. I've ordered from their website only, and it was very quick. I received an e-mail after a few hours I placed the order with a response to the special instructions. They fulfilled it, and it was on its way. In the box, it was nicely packed with a little catalog. Nice sealed plastic bag. I'll definitely order from them again when I'm looking for the less widely available ingredients. The thing that makes this place expensive is the shipping prices. I know its grain, and its heavy to ship, but it was well worth it.

My roommate and I went in here before we came back down to iowa, and he picked up a starter homebrew kit, which came with a PA, and we got another Scottish ale kit as well.
They had quite an extensive line of kits put together, with a wide range of brews. They also had quite a bit of raw materials as well.
The guy working there (presumably one of the owners) was quite helpful, and was willing to talk with us for some time about any questions that we had. They also have a catalouge for mail ordering, which will be nice for us in another state.
