Had on tap at TJ Smiths and was pretty good.
Dark with a smaller beige head. Aroma had some roasted notes. Taste was smooth and felt full on the palette. Some roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate. Some ashen or charcoal came through in both taste and fell even though it"s pretty smooth.
Can't complain about this one, drinks solid and well made.

A-pours a jet black liquid with a thin dark tan colored head.

S-the nose is light and hard to detect. notes of oatmeal and some sugary malts mix with a hint of slightly roasted chocolate malts.

T-the flavor is more robust and roasty. roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate, light notes of roasted cofee and a touch of sweet dark fruits to add some sweetness.

M-medium bodied and extremely smooth and creamy. slightly grainy feel in the finish but the carb is low allowing a smooth easy finish.

D-very smooth and refeshing, extremely easy to drink with an inviting palate and gentle robust flavors.

L: Pours a deep brown/black color with a short and off-white colored head that fades pretty fast and fades a bit down the sides of the glass.
S: Smells of sweet roasted malts, deeper more burnt malts, hints of chocolate, coffee, a hint of caramel as well.
T: Tastes of sweet roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, then a nice mix of some sweetness, a hint of caramel, and all throughout it has a nice oatmeal flavor to it.
M: Very smooth, perfect amount of carbonation, much lighter feeling than it looks.
D: Pretty sessionable with a decent abv, great flavors, and great feel to it.

Pours a rich, deep, dark near black color, decent head but minimal retention & lacing. Smell is of dry hot chocolate mix - bitter cocoa but sweet, creamy scent. Taste is mostly semi-sweet chocolate, loses the character of the nose and resembles mostly an oatmeal stout. Body is full, dry chalky finish, minimal aftertaste. Good beer, scent showed lots of promise of balance, but the oatmeal side defeats the lactose. Would be a top notch beer if adjusted.

On tap at The Ginger Man, Starts out with moldy taste and then overtaken by big coffee. Wierd and not too drinkable. The smell was not the roast I was expecting, rather neutral instead. I should have complained to try another, but have been warned that you don't get too far at this bar regardless of your bad experience. Colour was fine, as was carbonation.

Could not wait for this to come back.
A - Poured and looked like you would expect. Dark chocolate brown with a hefty tan head.

S - Roasted with some hints of a hop bite. Slightly sweet.

T - You get that milk stout character and sweetness. But it's not too sweet, A great example of the style. Roasty, some slight coffee notes, and dark chocolate too. Balanced bitterness toward the end.

M - Pleasantly smooth and creamy. It has a heavier mouthfeel, but it is easy to drink.

O - I have to pick some of this up whenever I see it again. It should be in production more often.

Look - Pours a nice dark brown color. With a pillowy light brown head that lasts for a goodly amount of time.

Smell - Good smell. Odors of chocolate and coffee with a slight underlying sweetness.

Taste - Nice complex taste. It has a note of bitterness that counteracts the sweet malty flavor.

Mouthfeel - Full body mouthfeel with a nice amount of carbonation. I'm happy with the way this came out of the kegerator.

Drinkability - While it has slightly more alchohol than a typical session beer, I think I could be very happy drinking a few of these every night when i get home.

Packaging - A typical sixtel, if not perhaps a little tall for my fridge. I picked this one up at Exton Beverage.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass.

A - Very dark black. Medium head that was dark tan color.

S - Some smokey aroma, but not overly strong.

T - Distinctive coffee and smokey tastes. Pronounced malty flavor, but the coffee really stands out. Sweet and not overly bitter.

M - Medium body for a stout. Very smooth.

O - Very good oatmeal stout. I like the combination of coffee, malt tastes, and the sweetness. The ABV is not high, so I drank a couple glasses. I will buy this again.

Like all River Horse there's common horse barn earthiness to the nose, and they tend to be better warmer than colder.

I am a fan of stouts. This stout is a bit sweet and very inky/ earthy. Still a nice way to finish the evening, and I'd enjoy it again as a singleton. complex. but I'd prefer it mixed as a black & tan.

NOTE - I have found this stout makes a great "black and tan" when poured over a pale or IPA.

A- dark black roast body with a modest tan large head, fades fast, with no lacing. OK looking.

S- Barnyard, Horse stalls, wet roasted coffee, malty and yes! chocolate, spring earth, flowers, almost syrupy, earthy. Gotta let this warm! Mostly spring earth. smell matches appearance

T- approachable, nice first impression, roasted java dominant, earthy hop finish.
Milky, chocolate, a bit over done. A bit too sweet for me after.

M- medium body, medium dry finish, a little warming. Needs some cheese or cookies to go with it. Too much burnt earth to invite another.

O- a decent oatmeal stout, good stink, sweetness, & earthiness, not overwhelming coffee /milkiness, pleasantly surprised at its approachability, but too cloying for two in a row.

Drink Warm!

12 oz bottle from Trader’s Joe. Pours black with long lasting, creamy, beige head. Aroma is of bread crust, burnt toast, brown sugar and some raisins. Body is medium, smooth and creamy. Taste is of prunes, burnt toast, brown sugar and hint of chocolate. Finish is short and watery. Boring brew.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Black, thin chocolate head.

S: Roasted coffee, sweet milk, and milk chocolate.

T: Roasted coffee again. The chocolate is very subtle and comes in at the end. It warms up nicely and the flavors start to really come out when it does.

M: Very smooth and creamy. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Pretty solid stout. Nothing too special about this but it's good. Drinking a fresh one so I'm gonna let the rest sit for a while so the flavors can mature.

A: Opaque, black stout. No light gets through. 2 finger khaki to mocha head. Very creamy, tight bubbles. Nicely carbed. Looks great.

S: Milk, milk chocolate, roastiness, slight coffee and cream. Smells very subtle but great.

T: Rich, sweet, delicious. Super easy to drink. Has an excellent coffee, roasty grain. Milk chocolate, cocoa and rich cream.

M: Sweet in the beginning but has a great dry finish. Grainy. Very nice. Nice and chewy.

O: Great. Not as good as Moo Hoo but it's up there. This has a slightly thicker mouthfeel and more coffee thank Moo Hoo but it's great none the less.

This is a very dark, black-ish beer, with a tan head. The coffee-like aroma is mixed with grain, distant smoke, and a bit of dark malt smells. For taste, this beer is drier than I expected, but still robust, with a firm bitterness and some grain and highly roasted malt flavors. It has a heavy body, with a very smooth, dense, and mouth-filling feel. All in all, this is a solid brew.

A - Nice full inch of mocha head beer is a deep dark black with mild carbonation bubbles
S - Light mocha and lactose in the nose. Smell is sweet.
T - Mild roast and milk sugar sweetness. Defiantly one of the better milk stouts I had.
M - Medium bodied good beer.

Overall one of the best beers I believe River Horse makes. If I ever order from Halftime Beverage again I will pick up a six pack. Great quality stout.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel Belgian Tulip glass

Appearance: Dark brown, almost black in color. A semi-aggressive pour only yielded a small ¼’ tan head that quickly diminished to a thin ring. Syrupy style lacing, which was a combination of the thicker pour mixed with the few remaining bubbles in the head.

Smell: Sweet roasty malts grabbed my attention right away, followed by mild oats, coffee and chocolate. I really like the smell of this one, probably because it mixes two of my favorite style stouts in one, both oatmeal and milk stout. I don’t catch any booziness at all considering it’s a 6.7% ABV.

Taste: Wow, I think I found myself a new favorite, locally brewed, oatmeal milk stout. Roasted malts and oats shine through. The bittersweet chocolate and coffee bean flavors know how to keep in cadence with the malts and oats. The milk sugar sweetness does a balancing act with the mild bitterness present. I can’t wait until the next sip…

Mouthfeel: Creamy smoothness across the tongue combined with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Sweetness and mild bitterness battle it out at the finish. Great residual flavors are left behind on the palate.

Overall: A very well balanced oatmeal milk stout. I can easily see having a few in a sitting. Heck, I wish I had another one right now, but sadly I only bought a 6-pack and this was my last one. I hope I can make my way back to the local beer store to get one more six pack before this seasonal disappears until next year. River Horse clearly has a winner here. A perfectly done oatmeal milk stout brewed in NJ. What else can a beer lover ask for??

A pours very dark into the pint glass. The head is light brown and pretty big with lots of retention. No lacing is left above a ln opaque body. Looks like a nice stout.

S nice sweetness upfront with a light roast. Milk chocolate and dark malts takebcare of the majority of the scent.

T milk chocolate and light oat malts with a very subtle bitterness from the roast on the finish. Nice, easy to drink stout.

M very smooth with very little carhonation. The body feels slightly heavy and sticky.

O nice milk stout thats very easy to drink. Thanks Mat.

Poured into a nonic. Got a nice 2 finger dark tan head on a black body. Roasty malts and chocolate in the aroma. Tastes a bit like chocolate malt in beer form with a bit of tang. Nice bitter note in there, mixes nicely with the overall sweetness. Mouthfeel was medium with small amount of carbonation. Really enjoy this beer, and can't wait for my next glass.

A: Pours jet black with a finger high tan head. There is good head retention on the beer and moderate amounts of lacing on the glass.

S: Moderate aromas of dark roasted malts, oats, molasses, and chocolate.

T: Flavors of sweet oatmeal (like a cookie), chocolate, and cream. Nice complexity and balance to the flavor. Not as sweet as I expected and very little bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy and smooth.

O: Quite nice for an oatmeal & milk stout - a combination that I really enjoyed. Easy to drink and quite sessionable and a beer that was enjoyed by all of my guests at the Super Bowl party. Probably the best offering from this brewery that I have experienced.

great to see this style really taking off i saw two milk stouts in my area recently and just traded for one as well i am really intersted in this style so its good to be able to try many different samples

ok the aroma right off the bat is like molasses and burnt brown sugar then a little bit of roasted nuts int he end

taste was deep rich molasses almost like a soy sauce character in the very end but a real pleasant one! i actually drank this bottle super fast because it went down real smooth and was super enticing

my favorite element of all though was definitelyt he mouthfeel absolutely pure silk in there like a rich full bodied creaminess but at the same time a bit layered

the only thing holding it back was perhaps just a little bit too sweet almost savory like a dessert beer but maybe thats what it should be used for...

I really like this stout! The aromas here are amazing, smells almost like a latte with roasted coffee and sweet mixed with some oatmeal.

The tastes follow the nose but with less sweetness. Roasted chocolate malts and coffee, a very small bit of hop bitterness, but creamy and smooth for sure. The mouthfeel is great here too, pretty creamy, sweet oat flavor is left on the tongue as a good after taste.

Overall the drinkability is excellent, pretty filling though and the roasty character might overpower the sweets after a while, another great brew from River Horse!
