Appearance: 64oz growler filled from Beer City in Deer Park, NY poured into a Duvel tulip. Colour is a hazy orange-brown. Thick finger-height head fades very slowly leaving a thick lacing. No visible carbonation.

Smell: Citric, hoppy, and bitter, also with a hint of sweetness.

Taste: Strong bitter hops are showcased with an alcoholic sweetness backed by a faint malt presence.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body has a soft, silky texture with a sharp carbonated bite. Finishes crisp and clean.

Overall: A very hop-heavy, bitter, strong brew. Not as sweet or in your face as other DIPA's but it is still strong and offers some complexity.

It comes in a slightly hazy beautiful ruby amber color. There's a light head and looks like a beautiful double IPA. Much like Lagunitas Sucks.

The aroma is wonderful. Big fresh mango, resin, grapefruit, tropical fruits, dank dank hops.

The flavor is similar with sweet tropical fruits and then a piney and resinous finish. Then a smooth sweet bitterness comes along. I wish the beer was slightly more dry than sweet with the finish, but it really is a well balanced beer. It has a good malt flavor.

Next to Singlecut's double IPA, New York local breweries have put out some crazy amazing beers that you should try on tap. This one is a winner.

I'm lucky to have a friend at KelSo who brought over a growler for me from batch that was only a few weeks old.

Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had and the one that comes closest to Heady.

Large citrus bursts in the nose and the taste.

Never would think that this is 11% ABV. It's incredibly balanced and drinkable. Dangerous, even.

A: Pours a clear deep copper to amber in color with some moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall off-white head that reduces to a small patch of thin film in the center and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Very light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Strong aromas of tropical fruit hops (pineapple, mango, and peach) with a moderate amount of grapefruit/citrus hops behind it. The beer has a wonderful aroma, even for people that are not hop heads - very inviting.

T: Like the smell, the taste of this beer is dominated by the flavors of the hops - tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, and peach) as well as grapefruit/citrus. There is a light presence of caramel malt sweetness in the background but the hops are king. Light amounts of bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: The alcohol is extremely well hidden which makes this a dangerous beer as it drinks much more easy than the 11.5% ABV that it has. Very enjoyable with great flavor and aroma - definitely one that I would get again and a really good deal at $14 a growler fill.

32oz mini growler from Whole Foods in Manhattan. Pours a brownish dark orange color with an inch of head. Lots of lacing. Great aroma of tropical fruits and citrus hops. Pineapple and orange. The taste is bitter citrus and boozey up front followed by some pine. Bitter reisnous finish. Not as much tropical fruit flavor as I thought there would be juding from the aroma but it's still tasty and there is some pineapple. You can definitely taste the 11.5%. Medium bodied and carbonated. This is a well made bitter, high ABV tasty Imperial Ipa. Glad I took a chance and grabbed a growler. Overall, I will be buying this again.

Growler

Acquired via trade
Thanks, cosmicevan!

A darker pour than expected: dark amber with dark orange (think scorched, fiery earth) edges along with a thin off-white head. There's not a lot of visible carbonation present. Eventually, the beer leaves the glass oily and spotted with stick. This looks potent and somewhat heavy in the glass.

Big aroma of pine and earth, along with a tinge of grapefruit rind, and sticky, caramel malts, and a warming alcohol presence.

The flavor follows the aroma, with notes of pine, earth, and some grapefruit leading the way. A somewhat sweet, malty DIPA, at least compared to the ones I most often drink, with some alcohol presence as well. Maltier than I'm accustomed to, with large amounts of hop bitterness. A very big, but balanced, DIPA.

Medium to full bodied for the style with low carbonation--somewhat oily.

Good enough, and I'm glad I got the chance to try it, but not one of my favorites.

Fresh filled growler served in a tulip glass.

L - mostly clear orange/copper color with a nice sized beige head on the pour that thinned to a ring leaving a few thin trails of lacing.

S - pine and tropical fruit when it starts to warm you get a hint of alcohol.

T - heavy dose of piney and tropical fruit flavors with just enough malt to save your tongue.

F - medium bodied with mild carbonation for a smooth, easy drinking feel.

O - very good example of the style.

Thanks to Wowcoolman for sharing this one at jmgrub’s tasting.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus zest, herbal hops, and malt. Taste is much the same and slightly sweet. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice hop presence in the smell and taste.
