look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5
Appearance: Quite overcarbonated and pours out a pint of foam; over time, the liquid comes into view and it is clear and amber colored; the retention and lacing are great, however
Smell: Rather biscuity, with a pipe tobacco character
Taste: Biscuity, up front, with a developing stone fruit character; by mid-palate, the earthy hops arrive, bringing a bit of tobacco flavor with them; the finish bends toward the malty side
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation (not as overcarbonated as I was expecting from the appearance)
Overall: Having enjoyed IPAs from this brewery, I found myself a bit underwhelmed by this offering; it didn't have a bright hop character that I would have expected from a West Coast APA

Pleasant appearance in the Leffe chalice, with plenty of fine foam and a golden copper color. Nice sudsy mouthfeel. Some malt flavors, but mostly a beery faint roast grain taste with a touch of lemon. Clean tasting. The hops are a little earthy, but taper off by the aftertaste. More dry at the end.
This looks and tastes more like an Irish Red Ale than an American Pale. It would be one of the best Irish ales ever if it was reviewed that way. Faint praise, but it's as drinkable as it is forgettable. So it's a pale Irish red-haired stepchild, an unassuming bastard.

The color is a mildly cloudy dark amber-orange just short of copper. A nearly white, orange-tinged head develops to about half a finger in height. It sticks around as a heavy foam and leaves a ring of lacing along the top and some patching beside.
The nose and flavor offer up an unusual balance of sweetness and hops, almost like candied dried tropical fruits with grapefruit bitterness. There's a strong malty backbone giving up a bit of caramel along with some biscuit. It's very interesting how the hint of candy-like sweetness blends with the citric bitterness and tropical fruits, and floral hops are also present.
The body is medium, and there's enough carbonation, crispness and smoothness to make for a good mouthfeel. The only issue is that it comes off a touch light and a little thin.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.
Appearance: clear golden hue with a thick finger of frothy tan foam. A good looking pale.
Smell: biscuity malt with a somewhat herby hop aroma. There are hints of citrus, but the overall effect is rather earthy. Not too bad.
Taste: biscuity malt remains in the flavor, and is a bit stronger than the aroma suggests. Hops are earthy and perhaps noble in character, though that hint of citrus persists. Not bad, although I don't love the malt choice here.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a good level of carbonation and a very nice creaminess, especially for the style. I like it.
Overall: quite a decent pale ale. I'm giving it a better overall score than I did the flavor because I think it is well-composed and well-crafted; I just don't love some of the recipe choices.

A brassy amber color with a tiny off white head. Smells of light earthy hops. Taste is big toffee flavors up front, followed by a bright citrus middle, and a dry earthy finish. Mouthfeel is rich, low carbonation. Overall quite good, a pale ale I would get again.

22oz bomber poured into a pint glass.
Pours a clear medium copper with a thin fizzy head. Not much retention or lacing.
Smells is very bready and malt with some citrusy hop notes in the form of orange. More malt than hops, though.
The taste is very malt forward, somewhat odd for and APA. Bready notes dominate with some orangy hop notes coming in later. Some pine as well. Bitterness is very mild.
Overall this is a pretty decent APA. Not my favorite but is is acceptable.
