A - Served with a light copper body that showcased some orange highlights...the head was small and white...it settled into a wispy cap then finally rested into a loose ring...minimal lacing
S - The nose is all about showcasing the West Coast hops as this is a classic West Coast IPA...citrus hops dominate with light caramel malt
T - Well this IPA is pretty one dimensional...that one dimension is bitter hops...the malt bill in this beer shows itself briefly at the beginning of the beer and its gone...the hops dominate your palate with bitter citrus rind
M - Medium bodied...smooth and bitter...dry
O - I'm a huge fan of IPA's but even I think there is a line for how bitter they can be...this is the line for a normal IPA...this one was good and all, but it was way too bitter...there needs to be a little more balance

On Tap at Headkeepers, Greensburg PA
Appearance: lite amber and clear, leaning more towards yellow. Head was pretty minimal and lacing was non existent as well.
Smell: dominant hops up front showcasing a West Coast nose.
Taste: West Coast IPA all the way. Malt does lean in and offers some balance to smooth things out a bit. Clean and easy drinking. Low Abv for an IPA that bodes well for multiple consumption.
Overall: had in bottle before and was not impressed. What a difference draft makes for this beer.

Moylan's IPA
on draft at The Avenue Pub, New Orleans, LA
Appearance: light orange, small head, and good lacing.
Smell: floral hops and subtle spice.
Taste: bitter hoppiness, slight malt, subtle grapefruit, and subtle spices.
Mouthfeel: medium-heavy and bitter.
Overall:
Strong hoppy bitterness will sum this brew up. It finishes with a sap-like resin flavor.

A - Pours a rich golden color with a one finger, creamy white head. The foam sticks to the sides of the glass like glue. After several minutes, the heads dies down to a thin white layer across the top.
S - Crackery malt and pine dominates the nose. There's a little citrus intermingled, but pine is definitely the hopping aroma. I don't get the strong citric traces that several others have noted in their review.
T - Crisp malt backbone with nice pine and floral notes. Heavy grapefruit citrus dominates throughout the sip. Has a strong bitter grapefruit finish that lingers what seems forever! What I find very strange is the floral and grapefruit nuances were not showing up in the nose. Strange. I sampled this in a brew pub so there could have been other things in the air that muted those particular flavors.
M - Semi-dry finish, lighter side of medium body, mild carbonation on the tongue and pretty crisp.
D - I really enjoyed this IPA. I really prefer the bigger D-IPA's, but I have to say this was really crisp, refreshing, not huge ABV, very drinkable, and I could easily consume several of these in one sitting. Moylan's is one of my favorite craft brewers and it's spot on what I would expect from a West Coast single IPA beer. Very nicely done.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass.
The color is a hazy orange color with about a finger and half of foamy white head, some nice lacing left on the glass.
The smell is a bit malty with a sweet flavor that leads into a toasty, earthy hop flavor. The piney flavors take over and seem to dominate.
The taste is bitter with some strong pine flavor right up front. A little citrus flavor comes into mix with the strong bitterness. Some grapefruit and lemon lead into a bready malt flavor.
The feel of this beer is medium bodied and is pretty drinkable. A good west coast IPA that is more hops than malt but does have some nice balance.

Came to me in a large 20 oz glass, orange/yellow with no head. Very thin lacing.
Smells of citrus and pine. Tastes paralleled aroma with pine sap and hop tart.
Felt light on tongue almost sappy and sticky with a bit bitterness on the finish. A nice IPA but may be to sharp for most people.

This could be my very favorite single ipa. They have it now at the Amsterdam Ale House on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's the ultimate Imperial Pale Ale. Great light color that has a surprisingly hoppy aroma and flavor that's not quite balanced with the malt but when you're in the mood for hops this is perfect.
Golden color, intense west coast citrusy aroma and bitter flavor. I had one of these and couldn't think of anything I would rather have as my second.
Excellent beer.

Moylans IPA pours a nice clear golden into a snifter with a white cusp. Lacing all the way down the glass.
Aroma is of citrus hops and distant malts.
Well balanced flavors of hops and malt. Honey, Grapefruit and Pine are all there. A juicy west coast IPA that has all implied flavors of piney, citrusy and earthy hops.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a stinging dry finish.
A very nice session IPA from Moylans. A bit expensive in these parts, but worth the endeavor.

A: Light orange, hazy, and shimmering with carbonation. 1.5" head that is frothy and beautiful. Absolutely spectacular looking.
S: Caramel Apples with extra sugar up front followed by piney oils and grapefruit spicy hops.
T: Light malt sweetness. A dash of apricot juice. Heavy notes of herbs and grass. Finishes exceedingly dry and has a very strong bitter aftertaste.
M: Medium body. Carbonation is a little light, but nothing to scream about.
D: This is an easy drinker. Nothing super challenging about this beer.

Served from a Pony Keg on (29.6.09)
A - Clear, with Golden tinge to the Straw hue (SRM 3.5). Mild carbonation creates a constant stream of bubbles to the top of the squat Tulip-like glass. The slightly more than finger-thick white head appears like bubbles that leaves resinous spider webs on the side of the glass after subsiding.
S - Hops of pine, with a balance toasty caramel malt mix together in a very balanced way. The splash of citrus (orange) come through on the nose as well, enhancing the beautiful bouquet.
T/M/D - Bitter grapefruit linger mildly on the palate for lengthy periods of time. The biscuity-sweet caramel balances out the hops nicely, thought to style, the hops remain center-stage. A kiss of alcohol comes through, but remains cloaked by all else. The hops fatigue the palate over time, though the alcohol doesn't seem to alter the mind too much, which begs for many more!
C - This is a delightful little beer with plenty to be enjoyed! Though west coast hop varieties were utilized, this is by no means an example of the extreme "Hop Bombs" being brewed currently by most breweries in the western US. Because of this, and the fact that the malts are allowed to come through in an elegant way, I would classify this as more of an American English IPA, than an American IPA.
Prost!

This is a great and not too well known IPA. I am guessing it has around 60-70 IBUs. No too bitter, but fantastic aroma hops. Floral, aromatic, and oily. Great mouthfeel and a beautiful thick white head. Hazy orange-gold color. Just like all the great IPAs, in my opinion, this hits you with pine, citrus, and grapefruit upfront, resolves the malts mid-swallow, and sharply ends after the slightly bitter swallow. Fantastic balance, proportion, and freshness. A solid IPA.

A-Pours a slightly hazy golden copper with a thin head and a little bit of lacing.
S-In typical West Coast IPA fashion, lots of hops. Grapefruity and a bit floral with just a bit of malt.
T-And yet the taste disappoints compared to the style. The flavor is a bit one note with moderate citrus hops and not much else.
M-Mouthfeel is crisp with lingering hop bitterness.
D-I do love me some IPAs but I would not go out of my way for this one.

On tap at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA.
Pours a dark copper to orangish color. Really resiny smell, lots of resiny bitterness. The hops come through super fresh in this. Lots of bitterness in this beer. Drank a half liter of it but didn't really think a whole lot about how to describe it, but it's a solid IPA. Definitely delivers the hop fix many of us Hopheads are looking for.

A: Clear Amber. Very little head, No retention, Soft lacing.
S: Lots of hops! Can't smell any malt here.
T: Hits the tounge bitter, finishes bitter with a perfect malt backing.
M: Very Crisp Taste. Clears the tounge with a hop BANG!
T: At 6.9% w/this amount of hops flavor you at least have to try it if your in to hops!

Slight amber hue, darker than I expected for an IPA. Tons of lacing coats the glass with every sip.
Smell is very mild sweet fruity hops and malt.
Taste is much like the smell. Slightly thin mouthfeel that brings on the fruits and floral nature of the hops. Well balanced with the malts but not an overabundance of either.
Easy enough to drink but not the tastiest of IPAs out there.

served golden yellow with a frothy white head. Smells of pine and floral hops huge nose this is an extreme IPA. They spare no ibus. Tastes nice but a bit crushing in the finish. One is more than enough for me. Still, it's a nice hippy IPA bordering on DIPA.

Good freshhop aroma, grassy and a little floral. There's a little fruity fermentation ester but mostly this is hops.
Nice amber color and very clear. Half inch layer of pure white, foamy head that lasts throughout a pint. Good rising carbonation throughout.
Very sharp bitter start. Some malt on the mid-palate. Then there's a very strong hop flavor of pine and resin that persists for quite a while on the aftertaste too. It's pretty overwhelming and so the beer overall is pretty one dimensional.
Medium bodied and very creamy and lively.
Seems pretty middle of the road for the style. One of those that is really all about throwing a bunch of hops in the kettle, to hell with balance.

Tap@Moylans Brewpub. Basically a stronger version of the Tipperary. Huge lychee/graefruit, orange rind flavour. Sweet to start off, then bitter in the end. Not much depth of flavour, but still a decent amount of flavour in here, just a nice hoppy American IPA. Decent.

Poured from a 22 into my snifter. Deep copper/bronze-slight orange tones. Just off white head--thick--indicative of darker malts and maybe wheat? Excellent lacing. Clings long. Three fingers high at one point.
Pine smell, like sap. Citris notes as swell. Spruce. Earth, plums, apricot. Something that smells like glue or adhesive... not bad, just odd. Phenolic is memory serves me. (Memory meaing about the glue, not the brew. Drank the brew last night.)
Excellent hop flavor. Not gushing like some IPAs, but enough. I think maybe British hops were employed. Plenty of hops, just not dominant. Great malt sweetness off set with an almost pepper/spice flavor. Quite nice. Decent aftertaste. Could be more bitter.
Mouthfeel is spot on. A true medium body.
I could drink this and drink this, though, in truth, it could be a bit more exciting. Their DIPA is where it is at.

Pours a cloudy rusty amber. Wow, is this not the most ridiculously overcarbonated beer available. I usually like head retentive beers but this is going overboard. Bottle overflowed upon removal of the cap, and it takes 5 minutes after pouring into a glass to be settled enough to drink. This brewery obviously likes their hops. You can tell that this beer has been dry-hopped to no end, and even for an IPA, i think its going overboard. The dry-hoppiness seems to be like a top layer to the beer, a very strong layer that detracts from whatever hop flavors were added to the boil. Any sweetness is at a minimum, and is overshadowed by the hoppiness. Unbalanced, overall. Outside of the carbonation, it is very suiting to the style and is not a bad IPA, but there is nothing wonderful about it and certainly many things i would change.

Pint style glass
A dusky copper orange color with little head. It has a hop fruit scent. There is a bitter quality to the nose.
It has citrus flavors and finishes with a hop pine flavor. The hops in the IPA are strong but I felt restrained in some way. Maybe the malts take away from the hops. I just felt like there were flavors there I was missing.
The IPA is crisp, It goes down smooth and is a real nice drinkable IPA. I want to try this one again.

From Jim's. No BB.
Pours a hazy amber. One finger white head. Clumpy lace.
Aromas of pine resin and citrus hops. Dry.
Taste is a dry hop bomb and one dimensional. Needs more malts. Pine resin drives. Merest hint of pineapple. Dryness builds and mrs heygeebee could not finish her share of the bottle. A first!
Mouthfeel is also a tad watery. And almost harsh.
A disappointment overall - too one dimensional and no malt backbone. Gets little less harsh as it warms, but still not a good example.

Terrific beer!
Picked up a bomber at local liquor store that has a nice selection of Crafts. Surprised to see a few Moylan's!
Smells of hops and citrus, has a early hop bomb and smooth finish.
I'm a novice at beer review, but that will change over time.
Very happy with this IPA, wouldn't be my first choice, but will drink again. Especially at $6.

A: Light copper hue with a thin head and good lacing
S: Some grapefruit and other citrus with a touch of pine but a bit subdued; some grainy maltiness underneath, as well as more citrus--especially mango and pineapple
T: Bitterness up front: citrus, grapefruit with just a touch of a medicinal quality; also some sweet bready malts to balance things out
F: Fairly creamy and sticky with a pleasant medium body
O: A nice IPA: sticky, oily, with a welcome bitterness and just enough maltiness to balance things out...a bit

Enjoyed in a pint glass on 10-3-11, this pours a mostly clear, dusty mild copper color. Awesome alluring aroma here that just shouts hops--fresh sweet tropical citrus with notes of lemon, mango and peach. Wooo-ha! That's a palate punch of hops with a solid pine and grapefruit blended bitter feel. A badass representative of the West Coast IPA...This really puts out the flames when it comes to a pairing with my HOT chicken tikka masala.
