Appearance is pitch black with creamy nitro head. Nose is mild and dry with heavy roast. Taste is smooth and creamy with chocolate, roasted barley and a dry finish. Not a whole lot of flavor, but still nice and drinkable. Mouthfeel is velvety and smooth. Overall, a nice smooth drinkable dry stout.

Overall
Appearance : Pour is pitch black. Does not leave a very impressive head.

Smell: A little grainy, but not much of a smell

Taste: Not a very rich taste. Very weak very a stout. A little grainy with not much of an after taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body not too impressive.

Overall: Needed a thicker and creamier taste and mouthful. An average beer and not really worth a second bottle.

Appearance: Pours a pitch black color but the head is not particularly impressive; leaves a few shards of lace behind

Smell: Grainy, with a little bit of char

Taste: Opens rather grainy, with some char developing and an odd, phenolic flavor that arrives after the swallow; a bit of black bread flavoring underpins throughout

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation; really thin for a stout

Overall: With a bit thicker and creamier mouthfeel, this would be slightly above average; as it is, however, it is not worth a second look

Reviewed from notes.

Black color with a one and a half finger foamy tan head that is stable for a few minutes, with medium amounts of lacing. Smells and tastes of lightly roasted malt, a bit of dark coffee and chocolate, all the usual suspects, but doesn't really promote any of them as aggressively as it could to make it more memorable amongst other Irish Dry Stouts. Although the body is light, crisp and clean in execution, it also seems at time to be as thin as the flavor within. I'd call it a good beginner's introduction to their first Dry Stouts, it's just not quite as complex as others, but that makes it accessible.

Pours a black body with thick tan head. Smell is pronounced roasted malt with a touch of something sugary. There is definitely something sweet and fruity in there but I can't put my finger on it. Otherwise, it's very dry indeed. Kind of thin despite the creamy head. I guess that's how the style goes. I liked it, but probably wouldn't reach for it again.

I poured a bottle into a mug.

Appearance- Jet black color with a thick, creamy 4 finger head that lingers a very long time. Nice amount of clingy lacing.

Smell- Dark roasted malt, chocolate, toffee, and a bit of char.

Taste- Roasted malt and toffee with a hint of chocolate. Slightly bitter char aftertaste.

Mouthfeel- On the light end of medium bodied with a small amount of carbonation. Very smooth.

Overall- Not bad flavor but too thin for a stout. If this was a little thicker and creamier this would be great.

Dark brown pour with just a hint of red showing through. Medium cream head, about 1-finger's worth. No retention and no lace.

Sweet milk sugar nose with hints of chocolate. Light coffee underneath that.

Taste is slightly stale coffee, sweetness from chocolate and that milk sugar, and light caramel. Light caramel in the finish.

Feel is about right for the style. Thick enough, but not too much to get in the way.

I'd get it again.

Extremely light body. On nitro tap at the Linkery in San Diego. The nitro doesn't seem to do much for this beer-- just enhances the watery cloud of mush in the mouth. Black color in the glass. Surprisingly not all that carbonated in the mouth, and not any of the usual creamy nitro appearance.

A little roast barley with a dishwater aftertaste. No detectable smell. Some black malt but mostly a lager sort of flavor. Maybe it's tired from the St. Patrick's weekend. Could only be better in the bottle.

1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Guinness goblet in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed from notes. Expectations are above average; this is me favourite style of beer and I lived in Ireland for quite a time.

A: Pours a two finger head of excellent cream, great thickness, wonderful tan colour, and fantastic retention. Colour is a nontransparent solid black. Extremely appealing.

Sm: Nutty, with incredible roast, some chocolate, coffee, cream, and milk. Marvelous. Incredibly appealing. A moderate strength aroma.

T: A roasted barley foundation. Nuts, cream, milk (a bit too much), chocolate, and toffee. It's well balanced and enjoyable, but the roast isn't as pronounced as it should be. No alcohol comes through - not that it should. Too rich. I do like it. Far more chocolate forward than Guinness, at the expense of properly executed roast.

Mf: Nowhere near as creamy as it should be. The mouthfeel in general is all wrong. Not dry or coarse enough. This is improper. A proper Irish stout is dry and coarse as hell but overcomes it with cream. That isn't the case here.

Dr: Quite drinkable. The ABV is well hidden - though it's merely average. It isn't anywhere near as good as Guinness or even Beamish, but it's still enjoyable. They butchered the mouthfeel; this isn't a porter for feck's sake. I'd happily try this on nitro, but it does need work.

Wouldn't age well. Would pair well with chocolate.

A - Very dark coloured with a light head on top.

S - Big hits of chocolate & rich caramel toffee. Also plenty of darker roasted malts with some port/liqueur aromas and a touch of smoke.

T - At first it's sweet toffee with an slight aftertaste of soothing vanilla-mint. Some other sweet cacao-type flavours are present but otherwise the body is a bit too light.

M - Sweet and fairly smooth but with only a light carbonation so there's not much going on.

O - An ok example of the style with some excellent aromas. Unfortunately the main body of the drink was a little too thin which let it down.

A -Black as used motor oil. Nice tan head that dissipates quickly leaving very little lacing.

S -Coffee, caramel, molasses, chocolate, roasted malt.

T - Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt that finishes dry

M - Light bodied, mild carbonation, similar to a Porter, more than like a full-bodied stout.

O - Overall this isn't a bad tasting stout, it just isn't a special one. I would prefer it to be more robust, full-bodied, and complex. Just average.

Dragoons is a heavy black beer that only barely lets any light in at the edges when I hold it up directly to a light source. The brown head starts off large and recedes to one finger before turning to foam. Ultimately, very little of it remains and lacks the strength to leave very good lacing, though decent.
The aroma is primarily roasty with a good coffee edge backed by barley grains. It is dry, though the aroma gives up a hint of creamy sweetness.
While many (perhaps most) appreciate the sweetness found in many stouts, I believe what proves a brewer understands this style is dryness coupled by the ability to avoid the caustic or astringent edge.that are its typical flaws. In this, Moylan's has proven skill. This beer is, again, roasty, and the hint of sweetness in the aroma is not found in the flavor. It is sturdy but not harsh, with an excellent dryness that goes to the point of a woody taste that just works for the style.
I have to remind myself after so much brewed in American fashion (which is a good thing) that while this is a stout, it's not a mind-blowingly massive RIS. It's got a fullish body but teeters on the edge of it and is smooth but not especially robust without lacking richness. The feel is dry, stopping just short of chalky. It's on par for an Irish dry, not sn American or bigger.

Poured an excellent black with some very nice head and good lacing throughout. Deep and dark malty scent, with good roasted grain aromas, quite a bit of coffee (maybe too much), and a nice earthy grounding. Good flavors, as well, with a huge coffee flavor, nice roastiness, and a nice earthy-neutral hop finish. Goes down extremely well, very dry and slightly bitter, nice and creamy. A very excellent dry Irish stout with perhaps just a bit too much coffee.

Bomber poured in a pint glass. Reviewed from notes.

A- Half a finger khaki head. Some minimal lacing. Dark brown and cannot see carbonation.

S- Dark roast malts, coffee.

T- Surprisingly light taste. Roast malts, coffee and chocolate.

M- Very light for the style, not necessarily to its detriment. Finishes quickly and clean.

O- Ok for the style. Not my cup-o-beer though.

The beer pours fairly handsome. A very dark color with a hefty cap of creamy tan foam above it. The aroma is light chocolate. The beer slinks across the palate with a creamy texture. The flavor is mainly a sprinkling of cocoa powder. The creamy texture along with the cocoa conjures of thoughts of milk chocolaty drinks. The palate is left a bit dry, as it should be. Not a bad beer.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Guinness tulip pint.

A: Slow gusher, but when it settles down its a pleasant dark brown with a creamy off-white head. Looks delicious!

S: Rich roasted chocolate malts and coffee 'n' creme.

T: Nice mocha profile (coffee/chocolate/milk) continues and it is sweet and rich. The hops pull through in the end, however and finish this, appropriately dry.

D: Very drinkable and surprisingly complex for the style.

Overall: Well done Irish dry. This is a style that often falls off into boring and one-note brews, but a well made one is a thing of beauty. Rich and full, but still true to style. My only gripe is that this is only sold in bombers. Sixers of this would make this a regular purchase.

Appearance: Brown to black with light head and light lacing. Opacity is good.

Smell: Dry roasted malt flavor, more brown malt. Vanilla and milk chocolate. Very yeasty, almost too sour. Smells like a porter. I know there is a strong historical connection between porters and stouts.

Taste: Bread and dough. Brown malts, nut, chocolates. slightly sour finish.

Mouthfeel: Light and watery with some syrup qualities. Finishes easy and dry.

Overall: I'm let-down by this ale. Not dark roast malted enough for my taste. More like a porter. I've had more flavorful dry stouts.

Bomber into pint glass
A – 2 finger fizzy creamed coffee colored head dissipated quickly to nearly nothing, no lacing, opaque black with chestnut brown edges when held to light 3.5
S – Aromatic on the pour, roasted malts dominate, milder coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, black licorice, fig notes 4
T – Coffee, roasted malts with milder dark fruits and bitter-sweet chocolate in the background, a moderately bitter crisp finish 3.5
M – Medium body, zippy (excessive?) carbonation danced on the tongue to improve a surprisingly watery thin mouth feel 3.5
O – An easy drinking crisp stout, the bomber was an easy finish for me solo. I won’t be buying this again: thin structure and just nothing really drawing me in here. 3.5

22 ounce bottle, no bottle date. Pours pitch black color with a small 1 finger fairly dense tan head with nice retention that reduces to a lacing cap. A small bit of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, vanilla, and some coffee. Some damn nice aromas here with good strength and balance. Taste of big roasted malt, milk chocolate, and caramel; with light coffee and vanilla. Some noticeable bitterness on the finish, with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, and vanilla on the finish for a short period of time. Still quite dry as would be expected. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice smooth mouthfeel with tons of creaminess. No alcohol noticed at all in the taste or finish as expected. Overall, this is the best dry stout I have ever had. For 5%, this has tons of flavor with a great mouthfeel.

Smell: soft milk chocolate and roasted malt

Taste: nice mix of roasted malt and tobacco with a bit of sucrose at the end

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, sweet with slight bitterness, medium bodied for the style

Drinkability: I really enjoyed this one, yet for the style it falls as just about a solid B. I like the tobacco taste and it looks divine, yet taste wise I have other favorites in the style. That said, I would have no problem downing a couple of these.

22oz bomber courtesy of Beermasons subscription and poured into a Mikkeller tulip.

Pours a jet black colour, no light penetration whatsoever. Tan coloured head of foam that is a finger and a half in size and turns into a ring on the outside of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma of roasted malt with some burnt smell as well. Straight up what you smell is what you get.

Taste backs up what you smell, this is pretty one dimensional but good at it. Nice roasted and burnt malt character. Consistent, smooth.

Mouthfeel is smooth early, backed with some burnt bitterness late. Pretty good for the style.

Overall a one-dimensional irish dry stout that delivers pretty well on the premise. No surprises with this one. Decent go-to beer for the style, but don't go into this expecting something amazing.

22 oz bomber into a giant snifter...pours a rich deep black with a decent head. Good retention too. Smell is malty and dry...pretty good there too. Taste is appropriate for the style, but not a standout. It is malty, dry, crisp, not too bitter. Mouthfeel is decent but should be more dry. Overall, nothing to rave home about, but a drinkable and sessionable stout.

Poured a 2" mocha colored head which eventually totally dissipated. Color is clear dark burnt umber brown. Smell is coffee and dark roasted malts. Taste is more of the same and also has a slight hint of cocoa. If I were using Guinness as a benchmark for stouts and compared the two I'd say Guinness has the better body and mouthfeel BUT Moylan's has more flavor. So all in all a quality stout which holds its own.
