Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Red Brick snifter. Served north of º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Light creamy head over a dark brown body medium haziness, moderate relaxed carbonation. Lots of sediment & settled yeast. 3.25

(Smell) Cacao nibs, chocolate milk, medium toasted caramel, mellow warm coffee notes. Solid roasty flavor, warm and inviting with a medium potency. Mellow booziness and a pinch of oak. 4.25

(Taste) Mellow roasty caramel malts, oak chips, hints of hints of vanilla and mild boozy finish. A touch sweet, but not cloyingly so. 4.25

(Mouthfeel) Slick texture, moderate carbonation for a touch of airy crispness. Medium alcohol presence, medium/heavy body. Nice balance. 4

(Overall) overall this was a pretty enjoyable beer overall. The flavors were complex but none of them overdone. A really tasty brew and I'd certainly recommend to anybody interested in barrel aged beers for Georgia. 4

Mason Series #3

A - Tawny port hue, iced tea shades. Firm cap of head that leaves spotty lacing.

S - Craisins, currants, young bourbon, light vanilla. Lotsa booze.

T - Pale malts make up most of the palate. Slight vegetal tang reminiscent of mushrooms. I suspect this is the off barrel character creeping in, if this was replaced with some oak tannins then it would be awesome.

M - Full bodied. Heavy burn for just 9%. Chewy and satisfying.

Pours murky brown with some reddish hue. Very small head receding into some bubbles on the surface. Low levels of lacing.

Sweet caramel aromas backed by some boozy bourbon. Maybe a bit of vanilla and fig as well. Not terribly complex, but smells well balanced.

Sweet caramel malts greet the taste buds. The barrel then takes over as there are big notes of vanilla and a lot of booze. I like my bw's this way though. Booze cutting the caramel and creating a nice balanced treat. Again not much complexity, but good.

Medium bodied with carbonation perhaps a touch high. There is definitely a booze kick to this one as the barrel is prominently featured and doesn't try to hide alcohol much.

Very nice beer and was not expecting such a delicious treat based off other offerings from this brewery. Pretty simple, but the caramel and bourbon play well with each other. Sort of reminds me of a poor man's CW BBBW which is nothing to sneeze at. Would drink again in a heartbeat.

Bottle at The Distillery, Savannah, GA

A: The beer is very hazy brown in color. It poured with a thin off white head that left patches of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of bourbon from the barrel aging are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell. The taste is dominated by bourbon flavors and also has some associated hints of vanilla.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. A bit of heat from the alcohol warming is noticeable.
O: This is a really nice beers that is easy to drink because the underlying beer is lighter-bodied in nature as a brown ale.

A: Deep brown and red in color. with a nice tan brown head. The head on this thing is dense, but rapidly starts breaking into frog eyes.

S: Definitely some oak; vanilla, oak, and a touch of corn. Behind that the beer comes across a little sweet, and a little tart. There is a caramel or brown sugar aroma, as well as a little bread. There is a lingering tartness to it.. almost a sour or acidic note.

T: That's bourbon. Vanilla, oak, perhaps a touch of cinnamon, but that may be a stretch. Some dark bread notes, as well as some dark fruit notes. Tasty.

M: Medium in body, carbonation is nice. The finish is a little watery.

O: Overall good, but far from great. Definitely heavy on the bourbon, and while the bourbon character isn't intense, it certainly blows out the base beer. Solid flavors, but I think it lacks the finesse I would want out a it.
