I was lucky enough to have the time to hit Russian River on a road trip to Northern Cal last week. I arrived around 3pm on a Tuesday and the place was packed! The beer quality and selection was outstanding. I would like to have brought home more Pliny, but they had a six bottle limit. I was happy it was in stock though. I tried several of their other beers and wasn't disappointed. I'm normally not a big sour fan, but their Supplication was excellent! The servers were friendly, but weren't all that attentive, which was understandable since they were so busy. I had one of the pizzas, which was very good. I will definitely return the next time I'm in that area and would recommend a visit there to anyone thinking of checking it out.

Visited 7/8/2013 for only the second time, but with a singular mission: procure Pliny the Elder.
Glad to report I was successful. I had my 22 year old daughter with me, thankfully. Her presence allowed me to purchase 12 bottles instead of the 6 per person limit. I had scoured several San Rafael area stores since arriving to visit family on 7/5, and was not successful in my endeavors.
I ordered the California sampler - six 2 oz samplers of a blonde, porter, two pales, Blind Pig IPA, and the best commercial beer according to the AHA members, Pliny the Elder. My daughter was just along for the ride and had a very fine Merlot wine.
I wish to commend Vinnie Cilurzo. He has not subjected himself or his brewery to the vagaries of the market. He has remained an artisan. He could probably make money hand over fist by brewing only PTE, but he doesn't. I absolutely love PTE. But, even more, I respect and admire Vinnie's passion to brew what he likes.
We arrived about 1:30pm on a Monday in early July and the place was busy and vibrant. The bar was very busy. I sat next to a young man from Connecticut who was on his honeymoon and buying beers to send home to share with friends. How awesome is that?
I have only two knocks against the place. One, our tender seemed just a bit smug, as in he didn't seem to care about the sacrifices patrons make to pilgrimage there. Two, they only offer their own beers. But, Stone is the only brewer I know who offers competitors' brews, so this speaks more to my personal bias toward collaboration and expanding the entire craft brewing market.
On my first visit 2 years ago the day after Christmas I had the entire sampler followed with a pint of PTE. We also ate the pizza, which was excellent.
If you haven't been, go if you can.

Awesome beers and decent food. Only problem is it is almost always insanely crazy on the weekends and tough to find a spot.
If you're a newbie, best to get the sampler as it's definitely a great value and you get to try mostly everything they have at that time.

Not much on atmosphere - very crowded even during the afternoon. Interior not much deviated from a pizza pub or sportsbar. But who cares, we came here for the beer.
Everything on the taplist is worth consuming - get your Pliny and Blind Pig down in SF and focus on Row2Hill56, supplication, consecration, sanctification, etc.
Service was pretty strong, considering we were off in a corner and consuming at a pretty speedy clip.
Lots of expensive gear, expensive growlers (when in stock), etc. Don't even think about bringing an un-branded growler (see threads on such a topic). I had a lot of beer, and I'd have a lot more. I wish the brewery was more open and less family restaurant, but as long as they keep cranking out the delicious ales, I won't be complaining.

My favorite brewery to date. The only thing wrong w. this place is that other ppl know about this place - so expect a crowd. We arrived around 9p on Saturday night - bar was jammed packed, and the wait was over an hour (they text you when your table is ready). We walked around the area for a bit - as there were some groups on the patio space that seem more focused on "being seen" than enjoying their beer and moving on. Oh, to be a college age kid again w. these beers in your backyard. They probably don't even know/appreciate what they have. . . . .
When we returned 30 minutes later, we were fortunate enough to squeeze in at the bar - and received great service. Everyone that we talked to was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed a full flight of belguims, samples of pliny & blind big, couple of goblets of consecretion, pizza bites (wonderful, too), got a tshirt & 6 bottles (consecration & sanctification) to go. amazing.
russian river is definitely the beer advocate's holy land.

My wife and I went to Sonoma for our 11th anniversary. We found that the price to value was awesome. We ordered a flight and we couldn't believe how cheap it was. Their pizza bites were the perfect nosh. We also were impressed at the lack of sex appeal to sell the place, it seems many places nowadays have traded quality staff for quality plastic surgery, not at Rr. The band when we were there was great as well. The final touch is that while sipping down Pliny, the various Schlitz and Black Label signs made it taste even better.

When we are in this area of CA. we always stop here. The atmosphere is pizza parlor comfortable and I noticed this time that they have made a few improvments. They've added very nice bench seating with wood paneling around the walls. They've taken down the old hops bags which were dusty but we always enjoyed looking at them. My guys love their hops. Our visits here are always great and we are never disappointed. Service is friendly, fast and personal. Makes us feel like the waitstaff really enjoy their jobs. Selection is almost perfect, Pliny is always great and hard to find fresh where we live so much appreciated. The food is great, I always get Megan's vegan pizza and add Bacon. Yummy! The guys split a pizza and said it was great. We hit it at happy hour this time so pints were $3.25 which was very nice. Food is very reasonable value wise. Can hardly wait to go there again.

Stopped by for dinner during a family trip to Sonoma. I wasn't sure how kid-friendly this place would be, but I had two hungry kids, ages 4 and 1, and the full sampler was calling my name.
Got seated right away at around 5 pm on a weekday, next to another family with a 3- year old. Not crowded, though I didn't see many empty seats.
Ordered the full sampler (every beer on tap), which that day was 17 beers. Took a sip of each, then drank more of the ones I liked, but with many of their offerings higher than 6% ABV, definitely could not finish everything without getting completely hammered. The sours were my favorite.
For food, we had a pizza and the charcuterie plate, both were good, but not amazing.
Service was a little slow.
Overall, had a great time and would go back. Even bought a t-shirt.

Russian River is a casual relaxed place with friendly staff and good service. It is clean yet retains its charm as a street-front pub. It is too small for its high following, creating elbow to elbow standing room only situations at times.
The food was good. I had a pizza. The beer selection was good also. They had two sample flights available. I had the hops flight. It was really good. Next time I will have the sour/Belgium flight.
I enjoyed my time and will return.

Went on a family vacation to San Francisco last July with the main intent to visit RR Brewing. It did not disappoint in fact it was everything I imagined it would be. Highly recommend for any beer geek who even has the remote opportunity to visit.
Bring an extra suitcase to bring home you beer if you're flying in!
