Notes:
A classic, well balanced ESB brewed with traditional East Kent Golding and Fuggles hops. There is a big, fierce earthy hop bite complemeted by a well rounded, flavorful and malty body. A very bright beer with a rich, deep amber appearance. A Pub favorite for over 18 years!

A very smooth and satisfying brew. Amber colored with ballsy malt character and assertive hop "bite". A pleasure to drink (several). I setteld into a few of these on a fairly recent visit. Cool British atmosphere to the pub.

First had: on tap at their brewpub
Poured a slightly hazy copper, with a moderately lacing off-white head. Grainy aroma, caramel notes, light floral hops. Light biscuity taste, caramel and toffee, subdued, and a touch of hop bitterness for balance. Not extremely flavorful, but mellow, and drinkable, and on the heavier side of light-bodied. Decent.

On tap at Vermont Pub & Brewery on 6/12/11.
A - Slightly hazed coppery liquid with apricot hues and a creamy off-white head that dispersed thick splashes of lace around the glass.
S - Toffee and lightly toasted grains paired with light hops, the latter of which impart hints of flowers and subtle perfumes as well as citrus fruit.
T - Amazing balance of sweet and bready, biscuity malt and light floral and citrusy hops. This is what an ESB is all about - balance. Nice grainy finish with a light pinch of hop bitterness.
M - Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Finishes with minimal hop bitterness amid some residual malt sweetness on the palate.
D - Fantastic ESB that is easy to quaff... the way it should be. Great session beer and quite possibly my favorite of the Vermont Pub & Brewery's line-up on that particular day.

This is a very British interpretation of the style. The beer is a bit cloudy with an orangey amber color. The nose was very weak, good lacing. The beer is of the Noble Hop variety. It is watery and has a very thin malty mid section that needs lots more body. The beer is a touch herbal, tea like, that has all the characteristics of an English ale. It wasn't my favorite and I moved on from the sampler

Served in a nonick glass at the brewery
Pours a light copper color, hazy with a thick, firm white head
The nose has lots of caramel malts and floral hops, a good english style. Creamy off-cask, the dry hopping comes through at the finish with a nice, biting floral note.
This is so easy to drink, great mouthfeel, and a classic session beer. Have many.

Off the tap the bitter was a light copper color with a creamy white head. Decent retention and broken streaks of lacing. The aroma was semi-sweet and malty, toffee in particular with some hint of herbal hops and bitterness. The taste was also malted more than I was expecting though the herbal/pine hops does catch up at the end bringing a dry and bitter finish with it. Fairly balanced but not what I think of when I order a bitter. The mouthfeel was smooth and a bit chewy, coating my tongue with the resin-like hops at the end.

Nice light bronze hue, very true to the style. Film head persists with spot lacing. Some malt and faint toffee in the nose. Taste has alot of malt upfront, with some hops in the finish, although I think there should be a bit more. Pretty balanced though. Very soft and somewhat chewy mouthfeel. I would look to this one as a session brew. Overall a good beer.

I had this one on tap at the brew pub during the 2007 VT Brewers Fest. It poured with a nice creamy off-white head. There was mild lacing left down the sides of he pint glass. The color was a brownish red color more like a light mahogany. When back lit the color was a darker brownish orange color. The smell was quite sweet with malt and caramel tones. There was a hop oil scent mixed in the nose. The malt certainly was the most predominant scent. Very full bodied and chewy in the mouth. Great mouth feel and drink ability. Rolling malt tones give way to a nice bitterness in the back of the mouth. The dry hop finish is quite refreshing and enjoyable. This is a true to style ESB in my book. Classic malt tones balanced out with a nice hop profile. As the beer comes to room temperature many new flavors are unlocked, especially a rather roasted malt flavor and some subtle alcohol notes. This is one steadfast brew that will never loose its following. Certainly proves to be a very well crafted and dependable flavored brew. This is one of my favorites on tap at the VPB besides there IPA. I have also had this one from the growler and it holds its flavor and carbonation very well.

Beer pours a light copper color. The smell is malty with some hint of bitterness. The taste is about the same, although the beer gets kind of sour towards the back of the throat. Nothing really special here. A decent garden-variety bitter that seems easy drinking. I remember having it before where it seemed as hoppy as their Bombay Grab but I don't see that in this batch.

really nice. golden wheat color in the glass, can smell the bitter aroma inches away. very nice. again this is kind of middle of the road mellow. nothing out of the ordinary, just what it is. i could see this being very sessionable as it is not unreasonably bitter and actually a very smooth beer. probably my favorite out of their list.

Vermont Pub- Dogbite Bitter
Appearance- Dark mahogany brown with a medium head and decent lacing.
Smell- Nutty caramel malt and grainy bread aroma. Wheat, sunflower seeds, oats.
Taste- Nice hazelnut meets caramel malt. Dry nutty earthy hops blend in evenly.
Mouthfeel- Flavor is big and holds up throughut. some dry bitterness in he end.
Overall- The best offering at the Vermont pub. Definitely worth stopping off here for just this beer alone.

This pours a mahogny with a large foamy head. The smell is all hops. The taste has a creamy hop bitterness with some cider spices. The m/f is medium with the flavors being well balanced. This is one of this pubs better offerings and one of the better ESB's I've had.

This was a stop on our tour of Vermont after a cruise of Lake Champlaign.
This brew poured a dark amber, somewhat cloudy, with minimal head that did not last at all, with no lacing. Nose was of caramel malts. Taste was somewhat hoppy as the brew was served at around 55 degrees. The balance of malts and hops was just not there as hoped. This beer was almost flat as far as carbonation was concerened. Mouthfeel was OK but nothing special. Overall drinkability was OK but nothing I will go out of my way in the future.

One of their current best. Good head, bitter, an ESB with fuggles and Goldings. Less carbonated and more natural bitter than their other offerings. Carmel. Thin-medium. Dark amber with a bit of a head. Your session ale. Would like it to have less sweetness.

Dark amber body with a good head on it. Nose had quite a bit of toasted malts, yet sweet as well. Hops add a nice balance to the nose. Taste was full of flavors and packed quite a punch. Big malts start out with some caramel mixing in. Citrus hops start kicking in the middle and lasts into the aftertaste. Mouthfeel was medium and the texture was quite creamy. Not a bad ESB.

A bit hoppier than the tap version, with a noticable dry hopping to the aroma. The appearance is the same, with better head retention. Much more pungent floral hoppiness, which adds a touch more bittering in the finish. The malt seems a bit richer, with a more pronounced toasty flavor and a bit more caramel sweetness, which balances out the amplified hopping perfectly. Slightly fuller body, with ultra smooth, soft carbonation and a bit richer of a mouthfeel. Almost a bit chewy, with a touch of peach esteriness.
If this is on the beer engines when you visit, do yourself a favor and get a pint.

Served on tap at the VPB. Appearance is a deep dark amber color, with a healthy white head gracing the top. Aroma is sweet and malty, just a bit of hop making an appearance. The hop bitterness comes right out at first but is buried in sweet, chewy, malt flavor. Finishes off with just a bit of bitterness and caramel sweetness. Medium body, quite drinkable, but not spectacular.
