easily the best of their beers that i had when i was in, a gorgeous example of the style, fuller bodied and luxurious, even creamy in texture, and very robust in flavor, with deep almost burnt espresso notes, earthy dark chocolate character, and some subtle malty sweetness through it for balance, everything i want in one of these, nothing i dont, and i think this is very much a standard setter for a basic but flavorful porter superbly designed and executed. i like the bitterness of the roasted barley, it permeates the tongue and lasts the whole drink, never harsh or acrid or anything, never too intense, and no real smoke or anything along with it, its right on. hints of raisin and brown sugar in the center, but this isnt sugary overall, its just balanced, and it approaches dry by the finish. maybe a slight english element to the yeast, its not totally invisible here, and i like what it adds. a really nice cold wet weather drinker, this brought me warmth internally without being strongly alcoholic or anything, and i believe it would be killer in a morning beer context as well. bravo on this one, a league above the others i had when i was in. nothing exotic, but very well fashioned.

22 Oz bottle, no bottling info

Pours a completely solid black body with a tan head, no visible carbonation but that's understandable cause it really is a SOLID body. Tan head decent lacing, some retention. The solid body made it pretty attractive !

Malt forward chocolate, some notes of coffee.I'm also getting a scent of yeast along with some hops. Overall scent is not very prominent.

Taste is a nice little balance of the scent. The hops are a little more prominent then detected in the scent.

I'm very perplexed by the feel of this beer. Headed towards silk it took an unexpected detour towards watery. Warmed up or cool, it made no difference.Seemed a little watery...

Value; (does not effect overall score) Less then 5 bucks at Albertson's . Clearance perhaps ?

Well it looked great and tasted pretty good. But the feel was the Achilles heel for me. Freshness issues ? Perhaps, but this is probably one and done for me...

Convincing dark color, nice deep tan head.

Smells a bit lager-y.

Taste is good, bitter, malty, clean.

Feel is a bit lighter than I like in a porter. But this is kind of a session porter.

Don't recall the finish.

If you accept the beer for its limitations, its far from bad.

Dark brown with a lovely beige head and lots of lacing in the stemless snifter. Clouds of carbonation on the tongue with more body than the the moderate ABV mighty suggest. Aroma of roasted malt.

Pleasantly malty with some sweetness. Dark roasted flavors and a nutty taste. Some charred grain in the back of the throat. Just enough caramel with a moderate bitter finish, like the best Brown Ale you ever had. Overall, a highly drinkable dark beer with the nicest sudsy mouthfeel. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Whidbey Beer Works in Oak Harbor for $5.00.
