16oz tallboy nitro-can.
Look is clear amber, dark with few rising bubbles. Smell is straw, hay, barn, malt. Taste is crisp malts, barley, yeast. Creamy yet thin feel, is smooth but watery. A little hop bitter that comes off as medicinal.
A lot of flavor considering it's 3.6%, but compared to most beer it's just average.

I'm here in the USA, I had this beer once many years ago when I was in England with the US Marines. A few years ago, while living in South Florida, I was able to buy this again, however I moved to Pennsylvania, and I can not find it anywhere. I was searching and found this site tonight, can someone PLEASE send me some info on where I can order this and have it shipped to me? Thank you very much if you can. Jim at fts.wpb@gmail.com

Poured unto a pint.
Appearance: Dark brown with a huge off white head rising to at least a full inch off the body. Carbonation aside from the head seems low.
Smell: Have you smelled nothing, well that's how this beer smells like.
Taste: Tastes like raw tea, hate to make this comparison but the beer isn't horrible yet not really that good.
Mouth: light carbonation, very smooth.
Overall: good to have only one will never have again. I hate to bash a beer but looks can be recovering. Can be compared to other like beers but doesn't step to that level. Salud!

Poured from a can into a pint glass.
Look – once it settled down, it was a bit of a dark amber color, with about two fingers’ worth of light khaki-colored foam that dissipates slowly.
Smell – a creamy smell indeed. It almost smells like a cream soda, but only faintly. The smell itself is fairly faint, with a slight bitterness in the end.
Taste – very creamy tasting in general, very smooth. There’s a bitterness throughout, which must of course yield from a hoppy blend, but it’s not so much in the taste.
Mouthfeel – smooth and leaning toward the creamier side.
Overall – interesting in general, but might be appreciated more from a tap.

This appears a ruddy brown with a lot of foam. One of those widget cans. Is there any aroma? I’m not picking up on it. Doesn’t bode well for the flavor either—tastes very thin, watery, like its mocking better British beers. There’s a somewhat unwelcome tartness that I didn’t expect nor desire. Not a lot else going on here, and not any reason to try it again.

the appearance good, very nice foamy head, robust nutty color, with an aroma that compliments. Nice malty, bready, odor, with some sweetness too. BUT all this down the hatch....well not as rewarding. Tasted almost like dirty water. suprisingly I tasted water over everything?!! Will give it another try maybe this winter.

A: 1/2" cream coloured head that left a nice lacing over light brown liquid with excellent clarity.
S: Very nice and inviting smell of lemon and malt.
T: Despite the smell, the taste of lemon and caramel malt is rather faint.
M: Thin viscosity with a low level of carbonation.
O: The taste was a bit disappointing given the appearance and smell.

Poured into a tall pint glass. The whole thing appeared to foam, but slowly gave way to dark yellow. There was a nice three finger head. There wasn't anything notable when taking a whiff. The first sip was great. This beer had been in the fridge for a bit, bit it fortunately wasn't all that cold. The thing I love about these specific english ales is the mouth feel. it's so thick and creamy. If anything it's the only why i really enjoyed this beer. It's light enough that I could go for another one, but nothing drastically grabbed my attention. It has a very light taste that borded some cheaper american beers, but the thickness of it makes this beer better than pabts or something. This is one of those good beers you have in the fridge when you want something good n light, not heavy.

The pour is beautiful thing to behold: comes of the can a clear amber but with a swirling tan cloud of carbonation that verrry slowly works it's way up to a pitted, cream, off-white head with excellent retention. Aromas are extremely subtle but enticing: sweet molasses and buttermilk pancakes. Taste is okay: biscuity malts with a dull, earthy bitterness that is sadly mediocre for such an initially attractive beer. It's body, unfortunately, is fatally flawed: this beer feels more watery than water. An interesting beer that starts off at a sprinter's pace for excellence and quickly slides downhill.

Look - Pours exceptionally well. But that's to be expected of a widget can. The cascade is always nice to watch. Color is good, a nice shade of amber. The head is great and lasts for days.
Smell - Sweet smell with some nice subtle undertones. A nice combination of the hops and barley in this ones nose.
Taste - A nice clean flavor with a slight touch of bitterness at the finish. Develops nicely and lingers just the right amount.
Mouthfeel - Good feel. About what I would expect from this type of beer in this type of can.
Drinkability - This is a nice drinking beer. The kind of thing I'd take out to mow the lawn, or for watching a baseball game. I could drink a bunch.
Packaging - I love a can with a widget, but that's just me. It is nice to note that they tell you about said widget right on the cans. Nice bright colors. It just about shouts, "hey, I'm a British beer." I'd say they marketers are also trying to give it the, look our label is in an old style, we've been around a long time, type of treatment.

I had this beer on tap in England, but it's been so long that I figured I'd better actually taste it again before reviewing.
A- Overall I find this a very attractive beer. The pour was cloudy but settled into a nice, clear amber-red with a two-finger head.
S- There was very little smell from what I could tell. There may have been a little citrus and yeast.
T- Honestly, there was not much of it. What taste there was was hoppy with a much more bitter aftertaste.
M&D- All told the beer is very watery. As such its a very smooth beer drink.
I tried this beer by itself and with food, and I suggest it be tasted with food as well. That compensates for the total lack of flavor and takes advantage of the watery nature.

Pours a sudsy light amber with a dense thick white head. Aroma is malty with some dust and a dab of pine. Taste is pretty simple; malty and a faint touch of citrus with a soapy bitter finish. Creamy! Heavy body with dense bubbles. Quite a bit of lacing. Pretty straightforeward.

An old friend of mine grew up in Yorkshire and often talked about this beer. Thought I'd give it a try.
Poured from the can w/ widget into a pint glass. Decent head, nice retention. Lacing clings to glass on the way down. Amber colored beer. Nothing much to the smell though.
Creamy, slightly earthy flavor, but much fewer hops than I'm used to in a pale ale. I enjoy the mouthfeel. The beer brings smooth creaminess upfront but this is followed by a rather bland tasting beer. A touch of skunkiness, but mostly very mellow malts and earthiness.
This site says it is 5.0% alcohol by volume, but the can says 3.8% alcohol by volume. Not sure which is right, but either way it would make a good session beer.

This one actually looks nice, it has a golden color with a thick, foamy head that leaves quite a nice lacing, but the good things end right there.
The carbonation disappears quickly, and all is left is a thin, mildly bitter brew with a minimal hop bite, and some alcohol perceived somewhere in there.
Easy to drink, but I will pass.

Slightly hazy amber color with a decent creamy ivory head that retains fairly well and manages some nice lace.
The aroma is very mild, bready malt
The taste is also mainly toasted malt with some hints of caramel, vague fruitiness (apples/pears?) and an earthy, grassy hops finish.
Slightly sweet, a bit thin and watery, but creamy and easy enough to drink. If you like mild English ales, this could be worth a try.

Typically gentle English ale, not too demanding to drink.
Looks great. Pour is fun to watch, settles to a half inch head and leaves great lace. Nose is fruit, grain and malt, very subtle. Thin and watery, slightly bitter mouth feel. Taste dominated by roasted malts, but overall quite tentative.
You could probably drink these one after another, but wouldn't be too motivated to do so. Okay, but not real interesting.

This beer was my first experience with an English ale and I certainly do like the style. If you haven't seen one of these beers before, they pour like a stout with the nitrogen head, only with a lighter colored beer. While the bubbles were settling, a girl near me mentioned that it "looked like orange juice." She was pretty much accurate.
Of course once the bubbles settle things normalize. The settled beer is a deep straw and the thick head sticks around throughout the drink. Because of the slight carbonation you can easily drink several of these beers, making the beer a fine session choice. The smell is interesting but forgettable. The taste is serious hops but not flowery.

Pours a slightly lighter copper than I'd anticipated, very clear, and with a bright white head that builds to nearly three fingers before dissipating, leaving some lacing. Smell is underwhelming, just a touch of bitterness and caramel present. Taste is fuller, English hops providing a substantial bite, and the malts are caramel a bit fruity, with some berries and apple present. A grainy note and some diacetyl impair the flavour a bit. Mouthfeel is well carbonated, crisp, and full, and drinkability is good. Not a great bitter, but entirely acceptable. I might have it again if I found it somewhere, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

The colour is amber with hints of copper. The pale beige foam forms a slowly sinking finger thick head with some fine lacing.
The smell is sour/sourish with fruity flavours of apricots and citric fruits.
The taste is fruity with medium sweetness, an OK body, some spicy notes and a passing bitterness. The aftertaste is malty with notes of sweet bread.
The carbonation is a bit too strong with lots of very small bubbles.
A cheap and simple bitter from the Carlsberg group.

Pours a beautiful amber crowned with a slim, yet everlasting, frosty off-white head... simply stunning. Smells sugary and malty. Tastes like sweet malts. Its a very smooth beer, but not so much creamy as you might expect. It's mouthfeel is like thick water, light on carbonation and easy to swallow. Aftertaste is bittersweet and malty.
Overall, a solid offering for this style. It's very drinkable, but go for a Boddington's for a richer, more satisfying EPA.

This was an amber, clear ale with a very short head (under 1 finger).
The aroma was of medium bodied malts, light hops, and a hint of apples.
The beer was poorly carbonated... hell, it was practically flat. The taste was very mild, slightly fruity and a little bitter. Not impressive.
The mouthfeel was pretty lousy due to its lack of carbonation, and overall I just had no desire to even finish the half a can I had poured. Didn't pour it into the sink, don't know why, but I managed to get through it. But I didn't like it.
Fortunately, it was a gift.

Tetley's english ale is an odd beer- a floating widget!?!
Anyway, I think I know how to pour a beer but when I poured this Ale, man, 99% head 1% beer. It took a minute to become a very nice looking beer. caramel brown with a creamy smooth white head that coats the glass your lip your nose just about anything it touches.
The taste wasn't very impressive. No carbonation, very watery, & flat. Light caramel and tea flavored malt.
Hey, Tetley's what's up?! Where's the taste?! Very disappointed but at least I have a floating widget!?

Widget can - Medium brown color, medium head. A medium bodied brown ale. Light malts and hops. Slightly sweet malts and slightly hoppy. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. There is an off flavor to this beer that makes it undrinkable.

Poured from a nitro-can into a Fuller's Pint glass. Fairly clear reddish gold color with several floaties and 2 fingers of dense creamy white head. The nose is nice and malty with aromas of nuts, toffee, and bread.
Light to medium body and a feel that is somewhat creamy due to the nitro. Not bitter at all. There are soft flavors of toffee and caramel that are joined at mid-palate by some tea and lemon spiciness. Very smooth and drinkable.
Overall, a nice mild fairly well-balanced ale. I'd prefer more maltiness and body. Probably won't buy this again as I'm sure there are others out there worth trying that are easy to obtain.
