Definitely my go-to pub in Harrisburg. This is the place you can go to for conversation, good beer, good food (daily specials seem to be the best). Bar is small and cozy, staffed by attentive and engaging bartenders. While the beer selection is not the largest in town, they always have fine beers to choose from. The atmosphere here is conducive to socializing , which is what I enjoy. Very nice to be in a bar where most patrons at the bar are open to conversing, not consumed with their cell phones.

Came here last night after reading other reviews. Was in town for a conference and wanted to get my craft beer fix. Took the only empty seat at the bar as the place was quite full. Had a very nice craft selection but I settled on a Ballast Point Big Eye IPA then a Founders Breakfast Stout then another and another. Stayed with the tap offerings but the bartender showed some quite nice selections from the bottles they had. The service was outstanding! Never once did I have to wait once my glass was empty. Didn't get food but looked at the menu. Wings looked really good but it was too late for me to eat. The atmosphere was great. Had a pleasant conversation with the guy next to me, then with a younger couple to my left about rugby and cricket. When you have plenty of laughs with complete strangers, you know you're having a good time. Prices were all reasonable. $6 per glass of some awesome craft selections. Would come back in a heartbeat and def plan to next time in town!

Been coming to McGraths for a few months, and I'm finally getting to a review after last night's visit. I go maybe once every week or two with my dad during happy hour, which runs from 4:30 to 7 during the week and features half price drafts. Well last night, they had Stone 15th, Double Bastard, and Java Stout on, which made my night. 3 bucks a glass for each, which is crazy. There are maybe 15 taps, which range from macro (Guinness, Harp, Miller, Woodchuck) to local (always a minimum of four Troegs taps on) to craft (the aforementioned Stone and Bells). They also carry bottles. Service is always great, as there's always a full drink in front of you even when it gets crazy. Food is fantastic. My go-to is the Celtic chicken wrap, which is a buffalo chicken wrap with their homemade buffalo sauce. It's a smaller place, but it's a great option for craft downtown.

I visited McGrath's for my third time on 3/26/11 as I knew they made great comfort food and that the beer selection would be worth it. My two pals and I had just did the whole Gettysburg 9 1/2 hour in-depth history thing and just wanted to eat and drink well so we show up and site in the front bar area. (there is a more formal dining area in the back of the place - not too formal, just no bar there) On draft there were 5 Troegs beers as they are known as a Troegs house in the area - and Mad Elf was one of them. I asked the bartender what was up with that and he said that one of the other servers tapped a keg being held aside for the Christmas In July promotional they run so they figured just keep it on and use it up. My gain. Also, there were 2 Terrapins on and one of them was Brown Karma. Good stuff. For food I got the meatloaf as I love meatloaf anywhere I can get it. The portion that came to the table was easily the biggest I have ever had anywhere. And it was wrapped in bacon - anything with bacon is better. If you are ever traveling through Harrisburg stop in and check the place out - it is well worth your time for beer AND food.

Stopped in McGrath's based on recommendation of one of the Troegs brewers. Not a very big place but it does have a very nice feel to it once you walk in. It has an upstairs as well but I didn't venture up there so I can't speak about it. They had a pretty good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Hardly any BMC products whatsoever and beers ranging from West Coast, East Coast, and Europe. The wait staff was super friendly and prompt. Food was teriffic, I had the Irish Lamb Stew, and it was great...especially with fresh Troegs on tap! Speaking of which, Troegs brews an exclusive ginger beer just for McGrath's and to me that's worth the trip itself! Would definitely recommend this place.

Stopped in after dinner after some good reccomedations here on BA. Nice spot, easy to find and a nice atmosphere. I got bells two hearted on tap which was solid and Ialso got a yell pils from oskar blues and a weyerbacher heresy to go so I'm looking forward to that.
Worth checking out great atmo and had some other awesome beers on tap- even chimay which I should have tried! I didn't have the food but a couple of guys next to me got some crab dish that looked awesome. I'd say you should go and eat so you can have a couple beers while you're there!

This establishment was difficult to find, thanks to my blazing fast and totally inaccurate AT&T 3G network navigation system that had me on the wrong side of town five miles off course.
That being said, once I did find it (on my own accord, turned navigation off out of frustration)McGrath's has a cool vibe with a tin/aluminum sculpted ceiling, tile top bar, back lighted stained glass behind the bar, and the room is long and narrow with two additional floors above the main level. The bar area is absolutely spotless and well organized. At the far end of the bar area is two steps that lead into an elevated dining area with a fireplace, makes for a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. There's about 21 taps and another 50-60 bottles in the fridge next to the bar. The menu posted online is very limited and is only about 1/3 of what they offer. There's a nice selection of appetizers, entrees, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and salads. Tap selections included several taps from Troegs (including Nugget Nectar), Weyerbacher Heresy, Dogfishead 90, Newcastle, Harp, Guiness, Chimay, Allagash, and others.
There's a small parking lot across the street and parking was a flat $5 making it very convenient.
One very cool thing is they fill growlers , besides a brewery, something I haven't seen very often in PA.
The service was good, the food was good and overall, a place that I would definitely visit again next time I'm in town.

I visited on a Friday afternoon. Not many people at the bar...but I could imagine what it would be like at night.
A pretty long bar upon entrance. Tables were in the back for dinning. Two sets of taps with about 20 taps or so. The selection was four Troges, two Bell's, Ballast Point, Allagash, Blue Point, and your typical pub beers. I was greeted as soon as I sat down and ordered my beer...then that was it.
The place had your typical pub feel. As I said it was pretty empty. I did not try the food this time...but I will be back to try it. McGrath's is a nice place to stop if you are looking for a good selection and a good pub in Harrisburg.

Visited after the early session of the Harrisburg Brewers Fest.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has the feel of a pub with a long bar immediately on entrance. Some stained glass brightens up the bar, which has two flights of taps.
Quality: The overall experience was pleasant, few people and fast service made the difference.
Service: Prompt on entrance and with drinks. After lunch arrived, I don't think we were visited until we were finished. An interim stop would have been nice.
Selection: I didn't review a bottle list but the tap list was nice with Bell's Two Hearted, Ballast Point, Troegs, Railbender and Allagash available. I went with the old reliable, Two Hearted Ale.
Food: I had the Celtic burger that featured a nice fiery kick. The sliced fries were also nice. I'd stop by again to try some other offerings.

A 4.5 Q -4.0
I had a chance to stop in at McGrath's for late lunch and was glad I took the time.
Atmosphere - the place has the appearance of an Irish Pub inside, the brass handle setting off the wood door as you walk inside.
There is stained glass that is custom w/ the pub name behind the bar and the capitol dome next to it. The bar is fairly long and there are bistro tables on the left side. The dining area is to the back. The place was well lit, clean and comfortable inside
Service - right off I was greeted and questions about tap selection were answered. I found the service to be friendly, attentive, quick and accurate
The tap list was fairly good since they had Gritty McDuff's 21 IPA, Duck Rabbit Milk Stout(my choice) 4 Troegs -Hopback, Troegenator and Dreamweaver -special NA Atomic Ginger ale, and Bell's Oberon+Two hearted. They had Guiness 250th and the usual import suspects: Smithwicks, Boddingtons, Lindeman's Newcastle etc.
The bottle coole is near the dining room at the end of the bar and many great choices are visible there: Nugget Nectar, Three philosophers, Great Divide, Delerium Tremens, Samuel Smith's, Chimay as well as other seasonals.
I didn't try the food but was able to see a group eating and the portion sizes were ample, the menu prices looked reasonable to me and the quality of beer and non alcoholic beverages is good. I am glad I stopped and hope to return next time I am in the area.
A - 4.5 Q -4.5 Serv 4.5 Selec 4.5 Food 4
Edit - I had dinner with my wife here which was very good and the beer selection was better so I would say it deserves an increase reflected in my rating - I enjoy this pub, very solid all around
