Not a fan. This place is definitely a bit too touristy. I don't like to comment negatively, however, the staff was hugely uneducated, I was blatantly ignored a few times. I noticed it was not terribly busy, as the 4 bartenders (blonde male, brunette male, and two brunette females), were focused on pouring the hard liquors for the... what seemed as regulars... rather than answering a simple question I had asked. The flight I got was obviously out of order/not what I was told. Not to mention the beers were decently priced for what was mediocre at best beer. Not recommended.

In general, a horrible experience.
Sat down around 6:30 for dinner, nobody noticed us and no waiter for 10 minutes, finally flagged one and he apologized that he was told to cover a different table, manage walked by several times with not a nod.
Finally get drink orders and wait another 10+ minutes for the sampler which at $7 seemed a bit expensive. Order some food and wait again. Food finally comes out (just snacks) and the nachos were thrown together with varying degrees of warmth throughout and the hot dip was cold (the dish was warm though), send the dip back and don't ask for another, muddle through the nachos. Bill comes as we are happy to leave, of course it is wrong, waiter throws hands up and we thought he had left as he was gone again for a while, but finally returned. Spoke to manager who said she wished we would have flagged her earlier, but she was more combative than helpful. I really can't stress enough to people who own these places that the manager should be a competent person, not somebody's friend or relative.
I would suggest just getting beers here and not counting on it for food
Beers Wit, Kolsch, Fest, IPA, Porter, and Cider
The IPA was quite aromatic and drank nicely. The Porter had good backbone and was enjoyable. The Wit was fairly tasteless and had none of the spice profile promised in the menu. The Kolsch was generally lacking the hop profile I am used to in a true Kolsch. The Fest was average and drinkable.

We had a less than desirable experiance at Moon River. My wife and another couple went the evening of Saint Patricks day. We got right in and there were even tables open. We sat down and were told we couldn't sit no reason just that we could not sit. We then stood near the bar and had a less than friendly bar tender fill our order. Although I must admit the beers were fresh and on style. I belive that as a pub in the tourisum district one must employ friendly staff and although this was on a city wide "holiday" the bad moods of the workers over shadow the quality of the beer. I will not return to M.R. because of the poor service.

Went here once with some friends after a movie looking to try some local brews. Can be relatively crowded since it's a pretty common tourist destination, but seats are usually available. They have a typical brewpub ale list of about 10. From what I had....nothing is very good.
Pretty standard pub food. I believed I had some chicken tenders or something else basic. Forgettable food, really.
To the people who mentioned the smoke, they passed a law so you can't smoke indoors anymore, but that doesn't change the fact that this place just....isn't....good.

Great locations right across from the river. Awesome people took loved the feel of the joint. But that's where it ends. Had the 10 beer sampler flight. 4oz each for $18. Pretty decent deal . But the beer was simply meh. Had a gem or two in the bunch. Boo hag, the wee heavy. Rest. Awful. Food. Honestly wish I would have grabbed something somewhere else. Had the tacodilla. Barely any meat. But the sauce was good. Wife had fried chicken wrap. Checked was alright. With a craft scene exploding in savanna ga. There's plenty of other places to go. Sorry. I really wanted to like it too.

Had a conference across the street at the Hyatt, so I was pleased to see a sanctuary to retreat to. Sat at the bar for two short sessions. This is a really nice place, reminiscent of an English style pub (like Churchill's next door). Very comfortable. If you look up, thereare the remnants of a once mighty beer can collection lingering. The bartenders were very attentive and well versed on their product, so kudos to them. Had mainly the amber because they really had nothing with any sort of hops. They also had a REALLY strong bock on tap that was too hot with alcohol. Also tried a taste of a sweet potato something or other. Their "big seller", show stopper IPA was not on tap (however I later tracked it down at another bar...not impressed). Did not try the food. Maybe this is good for Savannah, but I'm used to much better beer at a much more palatable price.

Went to Moon River on a Saturday night. It was loud and crowded, but my boyfriend and I snagged a table with no problem. However, no one came to serve us, so we moved to the bar where we promptly got our beers. I had something called Six Degrees, which I think is a mild ale. It was OK. Overall, that's what I thought of Moon River: just OK. There was nothing particularly wrong or bad with the place, but nothing about the experience was amazing. The prices for beer were reasonable. Didn't try the food.

Down in Savannah for my sisters wedding and had to make a stop at the local brew pub. Park can be a challenge on a friday night but we managed to find a spot on the cobble stone street in next to bay street where the workers of city hall park. Seating was quite prompted. Beer and food menu at the table. Did have have a spot were their seasonal were listed. I ordered a taster and the two with me order flavored sodas. And thats when the wait started. The waitress apologized about 10 minutes in the wait for our drinks. She asked if we wanted something to eat. So we order some onion rings. Another 10 or minutes we by and she apologizes again. The bar was getting hammered apparently but I couldn't' see it. So 10 minutes later our Onion rings show up and about 32 minutes after we order our drinks they come. The owner came over to personally apologize to us. And asked about our meal afterwards. I personally liked that the sampler came in 4oz sizing. So for $8 bucks I got 28oz of beer. Some of the rings were ok but some weren't fried thoroughly. After the wait we thought we would get some kind of discount on our meal but received none so we had to under tip the waitress. Oh well. I would still stop into Moon River on the next trip. It was just an off night or maybe their ghost bartender was taking the evening off.

This was our 3rd visit to Savannah, and 3rd visit to the brew pub.
We go in the door and its empty except for 4 folks at the bar. We get seated right away. I have held off reviewing this place before mainly because I never judge a beer or a place by 1 try.
Since there was 3 wait staff or more lurking around, we got service at first right away. Since I hit there web site before we left, I knew what they had on tap. Of course they do have a few guest beers usually, and so there not your typical brewpub in that regard. I want to say this place has very good food, and its a good value. The beer is good to great, but sadly you think a brew pub this small, would not rip you off price wise on the beer, but they do. a pint during the daytime is now 5.50, and I hope this is not a happy hour price! Sadly neither the waiter (which is understandable) had a clue about the beer that the web site claimed they had, which in my book is sad when even after he got the asst brew master down, they had no clue about the web site being out of date by 6 months. Too be honest it was the only reason we drove 2.5 hours up there , so was a tad upset the web site with so much detail did not reflect what was really on tap. WHY Have such a big web site, if your NOT going to update it? anyway they get more that 6 tables full get ready to wait for refills of beer. They also need a list of there current beers, sad when they cannot even do that, I know they had time, the manager had time to pass out coasters you think they have time to keep a simple list of beers up to date. Oh well.
That said there were very friendly and we chated (with the assit brew master) about there beers. I did complain about the prices, and he said they use imperial pints, which they do for the beer under 6% abv, but after that you get 8oz for the same 5.50 which is a rip off IMHO. The porter and wit where outstanding, the porter was the best I ever had outside England! the wit was damn tasty. I also had a cask ale that had fermented peaches added to it, it was a burbon aged wit, I believe. Sadly they only had a list of 4 main beers, the rest you need a tape recorder to take in what is they had, I think they had a RIS and DIPA also, but since they would also come in a 8 oz glass I passed. I hate samplers so I did not do that. I rated service as nearly poor because they are damn slow with nearly empty place. If you want to drink sit at the bar, they service is much better. Even in a true tourist town, I don't understand why there prices for beer are so expensive, but I can only compare their prices to Florida, so maybe its a tax thing, but with no middle man, you think they be at 4 bucks or less a pint. Its in a old building, but so is everything in downtown Savannah. !
Sept 2008: Was up here for the Savannah beer fest, with the bros doing a pub crawl, service was much better this time. Beer was better also. prices still too high for me.

My wife and I were in Savannah for our anniversary, and we stopped in because I don't get by many "brew pubs" where I live. Seemed pretty tight in the "bar" area, where we sat because we were just there to sample their brews (which were interesting). Everything more or less met expectations, except the service left a little to be desired (more apathetic than inattentive). Overall, I wasn't turned off, but I'm not sure I'll be seeking them out next time I'm in Savannah.
