On-tap at the brewery in Gloucester.

A - Dark as a beer can be with a light brown, foamy head.

S/T - Dark, roasty goodness. Heavy roasted malt.

M - Smooth with good carbonation. Highly drinkable.

A solid example of the style that I could enjoy several times over. And it went well with a cup of chowder!

Appearance: It's oh so very dark with a light beige head only a finger thick that thins out.

Aroma: Smokey, charred wood, roasted malts. Hops release a light citrus note but are more on the floral side of it.

Taste: Rather crisp at the start. Very roasty, smokey malts, dark roasted hops that are quite floral. This one finishes quite smooth.

Notes: Overall this one is solid and it's nice to see another Schwarzbier out on the market. Cheers.

Poured from a 16 oz can into Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Black, with hints of brown in the light. Small, somewhat fizzy head that ends up leaving a thin cap on top that doesn't ever totally go away because it leaves the kind of lacing that finds it's way back down the glass and into the beer.

Aroma is pretty muted. Typical lager yeast smell. Semi sweet with faint roasted malt grains. Honestly, even as a lager fan, the aroma rarely scores above an "ok" or "good". I am sure some of the adjunct American macros have not helped, but this is my least favorite part. Anyway...

Flavors are good even on the weak side. Roasted black malts, some chocolate, and a touch of sweetness balances out any bitterness.

Medium to light bodied. The flavors do make you believe it is more toward the porter end of the spectrum, but then you realize it is almost gone because it drinks exactly like the 4.5% lager that it is. Carbonation is a tad too much on the cola side, but not bad.

A very good tasting lager. Not the best Schwarz I have had by any means, but I love the pounder cans and always happy to see more of this style. I would gladly drink again

This is pretty good. Pretty light, typical of the style and abv. Great color and mouth feel. Lots of small carbonation bubbles that burst the malt flavor forward. Slightly bitter in the finish

Rich, thick beige head. Leaves some chunky spots with a bit of blanketing lace. Deep mahogany brown but bright light can shine through the center of the glass.

Smells of black patent malt, like lightly burnt toast.

Thinner body like the style suggests. High carbonation. Tastes like the smell with a bit of burnt grain on the tongue. Short aftertaste.

pours a bit mild with a head of about a finger. Pours exactly like coca cola. Lean body with a nice feel with a nose more toasted then chocolate. Palate is mostly toasted malt and some very mild molasses notes. Brown sugar that doesn't slow down the drinking process in feel. Lager body. Some chocolate and coffee but not some to make you feel on the side of porter. Nice balance.

On tap last night at the brewery. Served in a standard pint glass. Dark brown colored body. Not much of a head. A decent amount of carbonation. Smell had a faint aroma of coffee. Taste was very pleasing. There was a very low roasted malt bitterness in this beer, so it was much smoother than other examples of this style I have tried. Just a hint of chocolate flavor at the finish. Mouthfeel had a nice body to it. This was a very drinkable beer. It had a smooth flavor, was light in body, and lastly the abv was relatively low. This was the better of two beers I tried last night.
