Served in a 20oz tall mug.
Pours a tannish amber color with a 1” tannish beige head and a fair amount of webby lacing.
Smells of grainy barn malt, sweet cereal and a bit of resinous malt mingle together well.
The taste is layered with sweet caramel maltiness and a light dose of resiny and metallic hop bitterness. A faint taste of dark tea edges forward. A warming alcohol is noticed upon exhale late.
The body is a bit on the light side for the style, but is very gulpable!

12oz bottle into a pilsner glass
no born on date but Ive had this in my fridge for almost a year
A: Pours a crystal clear, really pretty reddish amber with 2plus fingers width of light tan colored head, which dissipates down fairly quickly. Leaves no lacing.
S: Spicy malts and yeast aromas similar to a quad. Theres also a weird raw meat aroma thats pretty off putting. Really odd aroma, and not particularly pleasant.
T: Big malty sweetness , caramel, toffee, and a big nutty character. Even with these pleasant flavors there is something about the taste of this that I find nauseating. It taste like feet, and vomit.
M/D: Medium bodied, low carbonation, slightly syrupy.
O: Ok, so its probably not fair to this beer, cause I think its more the style in general than this one in particular. I just cant drink doppelbocks. Something about them just makes me physically ill. This is only the second drainpour of my life.

A - Orange/amber, perfectly clear with an off-white thin head.
S - Really sweet honey, viscous malt syrup. Faint sweet grains underneath all the sweetness.
T - Malty sweet all the way. Malt syrup and some caramel/brunt toffee notes. Dry grains a bitter finish.
M - Slightly viscous with decent carbonation. Sweet up front with a semi dry bitter end.
O - Hits the malt notes but seems to lack some complexity.

Cape Ann Brewing Company
Style: Doppelbock
ABV: 7.00 %
LOOK: Amber colored brew with an off white head. Head dies down quickly, little to no lace. Looks a bit syrupy.
SMELL: Heavy on the caramel, Munich malts, and bready lager yeast. Sweet and malty aroma.
TASTE: The taste brings more caramel and an affirmation of the use of Munich malts. Small leafy hops and balancing bitterness though the finish is sweet.
FEEL: Medium bodied feel with a moderate level of carbonation. A bit chewey, with caramelized malts in the finish.
OVERALL: Very much a traditional bock made in America with a strong German influence. Fits the bill for a solid dopplebock.

A - This pours a nice chocolate brown. Opaque and after an agressive pour it yielded a thin lacing of creamy head.
S - Caramel, oaky, earthy, nutty - this smells wonderful.
T - A toasted and earthy grain element with nice sweet undertones of caramel.
M - Medium bodied with a crisp finish
O - This is very solid and I would try it again. I'm drinking it on a 90 degree day, but I'd rather have this brew on a fall day for some reason. Overall, very solid

Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours a deep red with no head or lacing. Smells of sweet malts, and some dried fruit, maybe cranberry to be specific.
Taste is mild bitter malts, some dried fruit and a bit sweet. Nice balance but a little mild in flavors. It hides the abv very well, and its easy to drink. Overall, nice brew but not my fav dopplebock.

Not going to rate this too harshly since it's not only old but given to me for free by a friend.
A - Wow a nice looking beer! A 1/2 inch of mocha head and a dark brown colored beer, clear but no sediment.
S - Smell is obviously malty with German style grains and malts but really no detectable ABV or hops. Decent enough!
T - Ugh downhill from here. It has some weird hop presence that covers up any dark fruit or bready notes but the finish is kind of malty. Must be the lager aspect but it doesn't make a good Doppelbock.. Average at best.
M - ABV is pretty well hidden but taste is kind of dry and grainy.
Overall smell is good and appearance is usually everything but taste is all that matters to me and this beer is way too lager like and not enough Doppelbock. Not bad for a free old beer though.

Appearance - Pours a dark carmely amber with a creamy color head that dissipates quickly leaving little to no lacing. Carbonation is strong, with a consistent bubbling from the base.
Smell - The beer smells very rich and malty with rich caramels and a warm slight biscuity smell. Truly amazed. The hops are light, with little to no note in the smell.
Taste - Very malty. A deep carmeling with a bready after taste. This beer doesn’t sit too heavily on the tongue as it dissipates through the mouth. The hops are again only slightly present, as is expected with this beer style. A nice rich mixture of malts.
Mouthfeel- Very creamy and almost marbley, with a light tingle of the constant carbonation. The heavy malts give the beer a chewy quality, while it remains smooth and watery. The beer barely touches the back of the tongue but the heavy malts sit heavily on the tongue.
Overall - Not a bad beer, very malty and carbonated. It’s a nice warming winter ale.

A: pours a crystal clear carmel brown to bronze with a thin and quick to disappear head. No lacing to speak of.
S: whiffs of bread and biscuits. Hints of carmel are there as well. Nice and sweet smelling, but more muted than I would hope.
T: malts, malts and more malts. A nice marrying of biscuits and carmel with some nuttiness in there as well. A slight burnt, charred taste is evident at the back. Sweet and sugary.
M: highly carbonated but melds into a decently creamy body. Finishes clean but with a slighty burnt aftertaste.
O: not a bad brew and its a fair representation of a dopplebock. Would like some more aroma involved and perhaps a bit more body.

Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazy, amber-copper coloring with a low profile, dense, foamy off-white head. Aromas are rich and malty, with a burnt toffee backbone and some roasted coffee highlights. Smells rich and complex. Thankfully it tastes rich and complex, as well. Roasty and smooth, there are some nutty sweet overtones blending with the toffee and biscuit profiles, which all lends itself to the overall layers throughout the brew. Smooth and bold in mouth on a mid-body feel, the beer leaves a fantastic lacing along the glass. The aftertaste is a hint of the tangy sweetness and roasted flavors, leading to a slightly lingering, smooth finish. Good brew.

Poured deep copper orange with a thin white non-lasting head. Aroma of sweet malts and a touch of fruityness and citrus. You can percieve the alchohol in this and it has a bit too much bite to it, but not bad overall. The aftertaste lingers fairly too long on the back of the palate!
