Got a couple of bottles of this recently and both have been gushers, but I kind of forgot just now and some of this is on the kitchen floor. Dang. Pours a slightly-burnt orange with a huge but compact white head, which stays the distance. Tons of lacing too.

A very prominent nose of stone fruits - nectarine, apricot. Kind of a strange musty, yeasty note underneath it, but quite appealing.

Taste mirrors the nose at first, with big fruity esters to the fore. This quickly fades and unfortunately, there's not much else going on. A bit of pepper & spice, hits the tongue sweet but finishes dryish and lightly bitter with a not-overly-obtrusive alcohol note.

Well carbonated, but something's a bit off. A little sticky, a little abrasive and not all that refreshing. Good tripel/BSPA (depending who you ask - the label clearly says 'tripel') all told, but not anything to go nuts about. Also, it was brewed to raise funds for Oud Beersel's lambic operations, so you should probably get some anyway on account of the worthy cause. It's pretty enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure this isn't contracted out anymore and that Oud BVeersel actually brews it, but no matter. The bros will move it if necessary and appropriate...Belgian Tripel with 9.5% ABV so here goes...Pours a nearly clear gold with a few finger of very vibrant head. Nice carbonation - not too much or too little. Head is persistent, too, leaving plentiful lace. So far, this beer reminds one of your first true love. What starts off appealing to the eye just gets better and better. The aromas are very rich - buttered toast rolls around in there with some of the more citrusy characteristics common to a Belgian Tripel. Mayhaps some banana, too. Flavor is very full, with some alcohol to be sure, but the harsh aspects are masked by the very warm flavor and rich mouthfeel. A lot going on in this brew...Very nice. Finish is clean and leaves some of that buttered toast on the pallate. This is good beer, but is pricey at $3.49/11.2oz. bottle. Worth looking for as it is very good. Great strong Summer beer...

Decent tripel. This beer is a light yellowish orange with a foamy white head. Good lacing. The aroma is Belgian yeast, light malt and an unfortunate solvent note. The flavor is rather sweet and sorta simple. It's just a lot of light malt and not enough earthy depth from the yeast. There's some booze in there, too. It's not a bad beer at all but just above average for a tripel. Mouthfeel is effervescent. It's always nice to try a new Belgian.

Brewed Oud Beersel, that i mainly know of the kriek i encountered and liked very much.

Golden hazy with a huge head, decent carbonation.
Fresh smell of fruit and malt, and floral gardensmell.
Taste is very sweet of candy sugar and caramel. After that there's slight bitter hoppiness. Then the yeast, that is a bit wild, reminding of the earthy garden it allready gave in the smell.

All in all it's a good ale. The sweetness was worrying at first, but the aftertaste made up for it.

A: Cloudy yellow with a giant head that lasts, and great lacing.
S: Aroma of citrus/grapefruit and banana, plus warm rising bread.
T: Typical bubblegum flavor with fresh bread, but well balanced.
M: Good body, especially for the style.
D: A nice one overall, worth seeking out.

I have to say that I am shocked that this beer isn't rated higher. I couldn't get enough of it in Belgium. My first serving was sold to me at Centrum in Beersel. The barkeep explained that the beer was really more of a fundraiser than anything else and was meant to get Oude Beersel back up and running and producing the high quality geuze that they once had. As a huge fan of Oude Beersel, I was more than happy to help.

Upon first pour the beer is impressively yeasty. Massive amounts of sediment float about the hazy golden liquid in my chalice. A large white head settles to a spider web. The aroma is quite comparable to one of my favorite Belgian strong golden ales, La Chouffe, only with considerably more yeast notes, mainly banana, and slightly stronger sweet alcohol esters of light fruits. A menagerie of fruit flavors hit the palate with each taste. The finish is slightly spicy, almost peppery with some floral notes and is rather surprisingly dry, considering the sweet fruit notes that hit the front of the palate. The feel is nicely warming, creamy, but only slightly boozy. Drinkability is outstanding, and at 9.5% it could really do some damage. Highly recommended.

A golden beer with a massive white head, forming a nice lace. Lots of carbonation.

Smell is a bit musty, a light malty taste with a hoppy aroma, which is a tad raw and a bit grassy and herbal. Some hints of solventy alcohol.

Taste is pretty sharp and solventy. Bitterness is quite high. At least the bitterness taste high, and this has probably a lot to do with the very thin mouthfeel, caused by an abundant use of sugar.

The final entry in the "oh shit, drink this beer before you leave" series.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy pale orange. Carbonation levels can only be described as "vicious" - the carbonation is actually audible as the beer is poured, and it creates a huge off-white head that fizzes and then dwindles.

S: Sweet, with hop flavors and distinctly Belgian yeast. Kind of floral - almost like perfume. Kind of intimidating.

T: Also floral, and rather hoppy, which is not my personal style, but I'm working on it. The perfume-y flavor is still present. Some fruity sweetness and some malt character, but primarily bitter hops.

M: Nice and fizzy, with a good smooth mouthfeel that leaves the palate feeling clean.

D: It's kind of overwhelming, but tasty nonetheless. While it's not my personal style, I can see how someone would be able to knock back a few of these.

Beer tasting in our hostel in botanique (brussels)

i was very excited about this one, another surprise from the supermarket (read: minimarket). very enjoyable smell and taste, can't say much about the looks of it because this was late in the evening in a poorly lit environment. however, strongly citrusy and fruity with a fresh mouthfeel in a medium body. alcohol is very, very well hidden for its true percentage.

This is one beer to look after.

Opaque pale yellow body, with suspended flecks of sediment. Foam leaves a webby ring of lacing around the rim of the glass. The aroma is a touch sweet and dusty with Belgian yeast. Slight perception of alcohol at room temp.

Taste of banana yeast ester, along with a sturdy wheat malt backbone. Slightly floral with a white pepper finish. Feel is creamy, slightly buttery, and dry in the finish. ABV is only noticed in the final swigs. One bottle would be my limit at 9.5%. Overall a nicely balanced Tripel that wasn't too sweet or boozy.

Bottle Inspection: 9.5% abv., December ’08 (sampled December 07).

Aroma: Floral hops on a light malt base.

Appearance: Three finger head on a golden glass with considerable protein chunkiness 

Flavor: Floral hops take the lead, light tripel taste with a little honeydew melon and other light fruits.

Mouthfeel: Medium light body.

Overall Impression: Nice beer, lacking some of the more Belgian notes of a Tripel, I’m guessing yeast selection has something to do with it. Shame it was chunky, I poured it through a coffee filter and that helped.

When I opened the bottle, a strong odour developed : strong alcohol followed by sweet malts.
The strong carbonation made the bottle overflow. I quickly poured it in a Goblet.
A large and firm white head crowns a golden misty liquid.
The head very slowly diminishes and leaves wild rugged lacing on the glass. The sweet fragrant cream that tops this brew reminds me of pastry.
The scent is quite sweet, really sugary, with strong alcohol and wild yeast. Malt as underlying influence.
I poured the bottle entirely in my glass, leaving a lot of yeast floating around. The flakes are being played around with by the rich carbonation.
The taste starts off really soft and evolves after about 10 seconds to a larger, wild and richer pallet. At first strong yeast and sweet alcohol emerge, later followed by malt and liquorice. The alcohol and yeast are dominating, but do not overpower the whole. The carbonation tickles the tongue.
The aftertaste continues with yeast and alcohol. The alcohol gives a nice burning feeling in the throat. (Slightly syrupy sticky)

Strong but basic flavours. Honest, decent and no games. A typical Huyghe beer.

BBE Nov 08. Great appearance with overwelming and lasting whit head and clear pale golden beercolor witout any haze. Nose shows lots of candysugar and a spicy hint from yeast. Next to that litle koreander aswel as litle hoppy green nose remembering of poperinge. Alcohol well hidden though obvious this is a strong brew in aftertaste that is litle sweet, alcoholic and moderatly bittered. Fine adchiefment and to me this sweet candy taste though flowery and fresh comes good and is very enjoyable to me. Quiet high carbonisation fits brew well and makes mouthfeel even fresher. Very enjoyable brew that drinks away well and hope it brings in some money for Oud Beersel so these guys can go on.
