Bottle was on sale, have been passing on it for so long finally picked it up, even though it is apparently kind of old.
Thick enough looking black pour, a ring and a few wisps of cream head on top.
Aroma, some milk chocolate, roast malt, faintest hint of coffee.
Taste, a large molasses presence, not sure if this is from age or intentional. Some milky way candy bar. Very little roast, malt or coffee for that matter.
Struggles to get to mid bodied. Carbonation is a tick high, but it goes down easy. No alcohol heat.
Kind of odd in its old age. Not sure what to make of this. At the price point, this better have been much better fresh. It feels like it probably was.

This beer was brewed a bit more than two years ago, the best before date was two months ago.
The liquid is dark brown (80 EBC), the liquid is clear. The two finger head is compact and warm brown, it sinks quickly leaving no lacing.
The smooth smell is sweet with lots of coffee candy flavours, including some bitter notes. Some vanilla, caramel and quite a lot of milk chocolate bars.
The first taste is bitter like old, cold coffee. Some clean hop bitterness and growing alcohol flavours. Hints of chocolate and vanilla. Light body. The aftertaste got growing bitter notes with some metal, old coffee and some roasted malt sourness. It is quite short, leaving room for smooth coffee flavours in the finish.
The carbonation is medium strong, the mid-sized bubbles fresh. The liquid is light.
No, this one wasn’t suitable for cellaring.

Got this bottle last summer sometime. Cheers!
From a 500ml bottle into a snifter
Bottled 29 October 2010
Best By 26 October 2012
APPEARANCE: A thin brown pour produces a small, medium looking, light tan head with decent retention. Head fades to a splotchy wisp and ring. Transparent black body and medium levles of carbonation. A ring remains until the end but leaves no lacing down the glass. Decent head, but very transparent for the style.
SMELL: Bolder nose of espresso, with some sweet cream, light vanilla notes and touches of chocolate. Decent stuff.
TASTE: Slightly watery in flavor, unfortunately. Some espresso, roasted malts and sweet vanilla cream. Mild but lingering aftertaste of sweet vanilla notes, bitter espresso, dark chocolate and roasted malts, Decent flavors come out, but it begins a bit watery.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Light on the palate, creamy enough, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry.
OVERALL: Decent. Nothing special, but nothing horrible either. The flavor was a little lack-luster up front, but it finished much stronger. The feel could use a little thickening up as well, which would probably help support the flavor some. Worth it only if you have some time to kill.

Very dark brown colour with no real head. Not bad but still a little disappointing.
Lightish, earthy coffee aroma with a touch of liquorice. Some burnt sugar and a touch of malt. Interesting.
Lightly sweet with earthy coffee and plenty of burnt toffee. Reasonably well balanced but I can't help but feel that it is a little underwhelming.
Medium to medium-full body with moderately-low carbonation. Okay.
It's an okay beer and worth a try but it doesn't pack any sort of punch and wouldn't have me coming back again.

The beer is very black with a red tone, a tan small head that leaves little lacing. Some curtains.
Dark roasted coffee, burnd bread, ashes.
Sweet brown bread, nuts, dried dates and figs, milk chocolate, Kahlua.
Small carbonation, soft and smooth, a thick body, a smooth dry finish.
Pleasant, accessible, rewarding. Not much wrong here.

Pours a dark black kola hue which leaves little head and no lacing, the smell is milky coffee, bourbon,a touch of oak and some dark fruity hops, the mouthfeel is just under medium bodied and too light for me with tastes of milky bittersweet coffee, burnt toffee,a touch of molasses, dark fruit and finished just like a nice cappicino and overall it definately lacks in looks and body but tastes nice but for its price probably wouldnt revisit cheers.

Enjoyed this 22oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.
A: Dark black with mild amber highlights. Very thin tan brown ½-finger head that quickly dissipates and leaves a wispy lace.
S: Strong syrup, alcoholic, caramel, and malty aroma. Hints of coffee in the background.
T: Dark rich slightly sweet ale that is very syrupy and alcoholic’
M: Strong and boozy. Heavy body and low carbonation
O: Decent Espresso Stout. A little low on the carbonation and a little too syrup tasting for my liking.

"Rumor spreadin' around in that Texas town 'bout that shack outside La Grange and you know what I'm talking about...a haw haw haw." ZZ Top, La Grange
Root beer dark brown black with a fluffy cream colored head. Head is quick to skim and vanish.
Fresh coffee bean oil and roast malt aroma. Dark fruit comes out to play as it warms.
Taste is a fine marriage of iced black coffee and a no frills, but capable and pleasant roasty stout. Nuances of thin molasses and dark fruit begin to peak as La Grangja warms. I see a lot of reviews mention this beer being overly sweet but as this was in the bargain beer bin for $4 I'm assuming a little age has mellowed out the sugar.
The big boner kill for this beer is the body. It's thin and the low carbonation really robs this beer of verve. I was tempted to say that big coffee stouts and English yeast don't mix but I know Meantime makes a fine coffee porter.

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of a tan color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight oatmeal, slight roasted malt, slight alcohol, hint of coffee, and hint of dark citrus. Fits the style of a Milk/ Sweet Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of dark citrus, hint of coffee, slight roasted malt, and slight dry hop. Overall, great aroma, blend, body, and mouth feel.
