Went to Wollongong for work and found out about the 5 Island Brewery. Had to go was only blocks from my appartment, the locals were very friendly and bought acouple of rounds for this "Yank" the food was fairly reasonably and of the 10 or 12 beers on tap over 2 or 3 nights I got to sample them all really well.Remember very well the Longboard Pale Ale, Bulli Black, and I do remember the Pig Dog Pils being off and tasting of soap... but over all was an awesome place to go as an American visiting Austrialia. Food was not bad ,Thank all above they did not offer me vegemite... LOL

Hard to rate the atmosphere - lots of work going on out the front, with nail guns, bobcats, blokes yelling...
This is the second time I've been here.... admittedly both times on weekday lunchtimes. I guess they don't get much passing traffic, as the bar girl also doubles as the taker of food orders. Even as the only person waiting at the bar, it can take a minute or two for one to be served.
Beer selection is excellent.... about ten or so. My wife offered to drive me onwards, so I put five half-pints away, and they are all above average in my ratings. One complaint.... the ales are served too cold...
There is a good range of food, including kids' meals - their pizza was well received. My wife and I shared a mezze plate, which was good value, and marvelously garlic-laden.
I hope to return when the work is finished out front, so as to upgrade the atmosphere.

Great spot near the beach.
A large bar area with a veranda as well over look the ocean with large glass windows. The area is made up with metal and steel themes which I found good but a little sterile.
Food and beer quality is very good, I had the caeser salad and sweet potato wedges with rock salt and rosemary. Very Nice! Beers are very good also. Some much better than others, Loved the porter and IPA but wont be having the peach wit again.
Very good service, attentive and were generally fast to serve and informative.
Selection was great for beers, over 10 I counted to choose from at one time. Large food selection also with many meals to pick from.
Reasonable prices for the beer at $6 a pint, $3 for half pint (cheeper for the light). Meals were ok prices too. There were some pretty pricey meals there but i didnt see them so cant comment. What I paid for I got plenty of food put it that way.

Nice location. Friendly patrons. 2-hour train ride south of Sydney. See the ocean from the terrace. Pub is at the home grounds of the St.Georges-Illawarra Dragons (Rugby League).
Beers were tasty and mostly true to style.
Particularly enjoyed the smokey porter and the Bulli Black. Wit was good as well.
Porter seemed similar to Alaskan Smoked Porter as best as I could tell with seven or so years between tastings.
On a nice day well worth the train ride/20 minute walk for a couple of good beers and a cuban over an ocean view.
