Appearance- Pours a dull rust colour with no head.

Smell- Toffee, earthy/musty hops, biscuity, plum/cherry

Taste- The toffee and earthy hops come through initially followed by the plum/cherry and biscuity characterstic. Finishes bitter from the earthy hops. Flavours are decent but there is nothing that makes it stand out.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied with light carbonation. A little on the watery side.

Overall- For Paddock Wood's summer seasonal, I feel this brew fell flat in many areas including the body which needs some fine tuning. This is good for trying something different, but it doesn't have that "umph" factor.

341 ml brown bottle with pry-off cap poured in a pint glass. Purchased at Willow Park in Regina.

Light copper in colour and fairly clear. White head is 1/4 inch on the pour but quickly recedes to a thin ring. No lacing to speak of.

Well balanced aroma of malts and herbal hops.

Nice balance on the palate. Caramel and biscuits balanced by herbal and citrus hops.

Medium bodied and moderately carbonated. A little resiny from the hops.

Above average but not great ale. Nice session ale on a hot summer day.

A - clear bronze, short head quickly dissipated to a few random thin islands with no real lacing
S - big molasses and burnt sugar aromas, biscuity, light leafy and perfume linger
T - toffee and sugar cookie, mild musty and leafy hops, light fruit syrup, grainy finish
M - light with mild carbonation, some sticky sweetness, finishing with a grainy dryness
O - for a light ale it is big on flavours, a very easy drinking light ale, decent for a summer session but not something I would buy regularly given the vast selection out there

355ml bottle. Paddock Wood's summer 2012 seasonal. Excalibur imagery, well beerified, is rendered on the label.

This beer pours a slightly cloudy, burnished copper hue, with a half-finger of loosely foamy dirty white head, which hies away in very little time at all, leaving nothing but a low lake shore berm of lace around the glass.

It smells of sweet, bready, biscuity malt, some caramel/toffee notes, soft indeterminate field fruit, and earthy, musty, leafy hops. The taste is toffee wafer candy bars, some further musty caramel, some plain Jane grain, mild marmalade-esque citrus, and low-key earthy, leafy hops.

The bubbles are quite restrained - timid, even, the body on the lee side of medium weight, but with an adequate amount of heft to complement a decent smoothness. It finishes clean, not as off-dry as I had expected, with a nice late-arriving sassy, bitter leafy hop rejoinder.

A decent mild pale ale, it has the flavour to punch a weight class higher, that's for sure, and should surely do nicely as a lower ABV summer option.

355ml bottle poured into pint glass 5/7/12

A light copper body with plenty of bubbles but only a thin film for head and it leaves a single ring of lace

S butterscotch and soft caramels with lots of dry cereal and faint fruit, decent but pretty straight forward

T mimics the smell quite well, some earthy notes, but mostly grainy caramels

M not as much carbonation as I would guess from looking at it but still far from flat, light bodied but pretty smooth

O easy enough to drink and you could have a few under the Sun without falling over, not going too blow you away but a decent session beer

Not sure the style for this one as I couldn't find it on Paddock Wood's web site but English style ale's named on the bottle and I felt Pale Mild was the best fit
