Appearance - Pours a clear, dark copper brown with 1/2 finger width of bubbly head (that quickly dissipates).

Smell - Dark fruits (mainly cherries, plums), molasses, slight hint of earthy oak.

Taste - Nice flavours of cherry and plum, followed by the sticky molasses sweetness at the end. Pleasant malt character. No bitterness, but slight hops presence in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium bodied with light carbonation. Bit of sticky chewiness. A little thin.

Overall - A respectable attempt at the Maibock by Paddock Wood. I was hoping for more hops presence, however I do think it had nice balance in its flavours. Body could use a little more "oomph" to it.

12oz bottle from the brewery. Pours A burnt orange, copper color. Half a finger of head, leaves a collar around the glass.

Nutty on the nose, toffee and caramel, light burnt bread. Flavor is similar, nutty, light metallic quality, light burnt malt, bread, toffee, grassy dry bitterness in the finish, relatively bracing, medium sweetness in the body. Hides the ABV, quite low carbonation, slightly thin mouthfeel.

Not a bad beer but a little simple and one dimensional, for the ABV I'd want a little more depth and complexity.

Pours dark copper colour with a beige creamy head that is quite thin.

In terms of smell I get caramel, toffee, biscuity malts, molasses, almonds, some earthiness and a bit of alcohol.

In the taste I get some burnt sugar, caramel malts, toffee and earthy hops predominantly. Good although not all that complex.

Medium bodied with fairly minimal carbonation, and a creamy consistency.

A good maibock.

355ml bottle, 7.3% ABV in the 2011 edition.

This beer pours a beautiful clear ruby amber hue, with one thick finger of tight foamy off-white head, which leaves a low ebb of lace around the glass in its wake. It smells of crackery caramel malt, a bit of tobacco leaf, and earthy, leafy hops. The taste is sweet bready malt, toffee, tea leaves, brown sugar, and more earthy hoppiness. The carbonation is on the soft side, the body medium-full in weight, smooth, and displaying a nascent creaminess. It finishes sweet and earthy, the leafy nature (tea and cigar) not far from the forefront.

A decent maibock, the elevated booze not at all obtrusive, and the edgy, gritty offset is quite welcome, resulting in a very easy drinker, just in under gun, as May gives way to summery June.

Spot on the style. Creamy above average mouthfeel. Mild bitterness, some sugar in taste. Rich malty aroma. Golden yellow with about a half inch of retained head. Dangerously drinkable at 7.3% listed on bottle. Very fresh.
Bottle from Zyn, hlping me to complete the entire Paddock Wood lineup.

A - Pours a dark ruby red with a thin layer of head, little retention or lacing.

S - Rather mild, but dark cane sugar, caramel and toffee with a touch of leather and roasted almonds on the finish.

T - Quite flavourful, dark caramel, toffee, burnt sugar and some bitter leafy hops that come through on the finish. Higher ABV goes completely undetected.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and finishes nice and wet.

O - Quite tasty with some nice bold flavours. A quality offering from a brewery that continues to surprise me. Certainly worth a try.

Unlike the typical Maibock, this is a dark copper coloured beer with an excellent off white head. Just enough hops to balance the beer, but malt is at the for front. Sweetness, bread, toffee flavours dominate. The alcohol is hidden in the background. I like the drinkability and malt characteristics of the beer. The only thing holding it back is that is may be a bit off style due to its dark colour and balance between alcohol, malt, and hops, but still a great beer to welcome spring.
