Unusual place that consists of a smaller beer and wine store and a separate bar with 8 quality drafts available. Smallish to mid sized selection on the store side and about 8 quality taps on the bar side. They also have a small stage for frequent musical guests and jam sessions. Nice little places to pick up some quality beer to go or to stay.

Checked this place out after having a nice lunch over at Tupelo Honey. Like mentioned prior, it's a wonderful location, with a nice glass store front, which allows you to do a little window shopping.
The store is clean, and welcoming. The selection of beer is pretty average, at best. They clearly focus more on the wine side, and I won't fault them for that. But I will fault them for their lackluster beer selection. They had quite a bit from local breweries as well as a very large amount of Stone, New Belgium, and Lagunitas.
I probably won't stop by again if every in town.

Located centrally downtown in Asheville - a prime location between the Thirsty Monk and Jerusalem Garden.

Atmosphere: A well-lit store that is more wine-centric. Like a few others, the store is well-appointed.

Quality/Service: A clean store, just one that doesn't come across as a beer lover's paradise. I didn't seek out any help.

Selection: Average selection, locals are prominent, as are New Belgium and Southern Tier. Overall I wasn't too enthused with the offerings - there wasn't anything that I hadn't already stumbled across before.

More of a wine shop, this place still carries a solid brew selection. This is simply a store, not a lounge or hang out spot. They occasionally host some wine tasting events. There are certain styles and breweries that are better represented than others, but there are always a lot of options, and occasionally surprises. The staff is pretty passive and hands off, and have limited knowledge. Again, this is more of a wine shop (hence the name). It has a "make your own 6 pack" selection that is usually interesting. Prices are slightly higher than average. Still a good shop to drop in to.

Atmosphere is more like a rather formal liquor store rather than a laid-back friendly beer seller, but as the name suggest their emphasis is on wine - and they do have an excellent selection of craft brews, including plenty of North Carolina’s best. The man I dealt with was very friendly and helpful as I sought some good beer; unfortunately, recent visits to Bruisin’ Ales and a couple good beer stores in Raleigh meant that I had just about exhausted unique selections. Still, I found a couple brewskis I hadn’t seen before. Their beer selection, as I said, is very good, and I didn’t see any industrial swill, which is a point in their favor. When you visit Asheville, Bruisin’ Ales is the place to shop, but Weinhaus is worth at least a look around. Besides, they’re right next to the Thirsty Monk and very near a reasonably priced hotel.

Stopped in on a whim, just to see how the place looked.

Pretty decent selection, though you can tell they specialize in wine more than beer.

Beer is on the right next to the door. A few coolers with chilled singles and bombers. A few local growlers on the bottom. The selection wasn't all that impressive, considering that you could get a better choice at the Whole Foods around the corner.

Service was just awful. Probably the worst I've experienced. As I entered, the staff (or what I considered to be the staff) sat behind the counter, barely noticing us as we came in. I shopped around for about 15 minutes, found one bottle and approached the counter. The workers were all drinking a beer they just capped, and I was wondering what it was. All I got was "It's a porter". Taken aback, as I just wanted to know if it was a good one, this prompted me to ask if I could speak with the manager. The cashier then told me that he was the "de facto" manager, which made me wonder what that could mean, and that lead to the realization that this was the owner's son. Well sorry for me to ask. Bought the bottle and left. Likely will never return. Bruisin' Ales actually has staff that likes to talk to their customers. Completely blown away by the lack of care displayed.

Like I said, pretty decent selection (better than Ingles). I would only stop in if I know that they had a single that was a must get.

We shopped there yesterday as we were looking to pick up some local wine. Huge wine selection and a rather small but pretty good beer selection. Local and other micros as well as imports. Will stop again when we are back in town. Definately worth a visit even though it appears that there are better and more specialized beer shops in town. The location definately makes it attractive especially if you have to stop quickly while you are in downtown anyway. Service was good even though we had to engage them rather them engaged themselves. May have been the slow labor day or so

Used to stop here more often, until Bruisin Ales opened up and blew them away on both selection and price. But to be fair, this place is a wine store primarily, after all. Never have asked for help, as they seem to keep to themselves here; don't know if that is different when it comes to wine, though. It's pretty quiet here. Selection is pretty good, but prices seem too high, with the exception of some of the local stuff. They do have growlers for sale, which is cool, but their cooler is small. They also have a decent selection of glassware, if you are in to that sort of thing. It's not a bad stop, by any means, but it is no longer a destination I seek out.

On Patton, right in the middle of everything. Beers are in the front left corner of a predominantly wine store, but a decent selection. Got the last bottle of Pisgah Solstice today, as far as I can tell the last in town (new batch on the way, though).

Selection is not great, but certainly well above average. Micro selection is much better than the imports, but a few common imports available.

Worth a stop as you are strolling by. You might find something that is not available at the other beer shops in town.

I stopped here to check out what this place had. I would say the beers here are really about average in terms of finding gems, etc. in the area. There are plenty of beer stores that will do, and they all carry the locals and plenty of other good stuff. This one doesn't do much to put itself above the rest. The service was good - everyone was helpful and friendly. The selection was a bit better than some and a bit lesser than others, and the prices were about on par with any other place you look in the area. This place is a decent substitute for Bruisin' Ales if you need to buy a bottle at 10:30 (BA doesn't open until noon), but I'd walk the extra 3 blocks.

This place is located in downtown Asheville directly across the street from Jack of the Wood and right around the corner from Thirsty Monk. Not a huge selection of beer(mostly wine), but decent. Quite a few Belgians, beers from the UK, Germany and elsewhere along with domestic micros. I did notice that prices were mostly .50 to 1.00 cheaper than other places, so that's a plus. As you walk in the door, the beer racks are all towards your left and they are all at room temp as I didn't see any coolers anywhere in site. Service was good. I was asked if I needed any help from a friendly guy at the counter as soon as I walked in the door. Worth a visit when in town as you might find something a bit cheaper than elsewhere.

We went to Jack of The Woods pub for lunch and stopped in here afterwards as it was basically across the street. Great selection of craft beer, particularly since it appears to be more of a wine shop. Was particularly impressed by their Belgium beer selection. I was able to pick up some great beer that I can't get at home. Prices seemed reasonable enough, although I didn't really comparison shop at any other local stores. Staff was friendly, but I didn't really need their assistance. Definitely recommended if you're in the downtown Asheville area.

Because I'm reviewing the beer side of things I can't give this place the greatest praise. Quality was good, a nice spot in downtown Asheville. The guy working there didn't seem too customer oriented...just sat at a computer messing around and never really tried to help, though I didn't really plan on asking any questions. Selection was decent but still limited compared to what you can get elsewhere within a few miles. A bit pricey too compared to the others, usually by $0.50 to $1 per item. I'd guess it's a better place for the wine folk.

Ok, so I have to admit I have never actually been here before. I usually make my way to my normal stops, Greenlife and Bruisin when I am in town, but I just had to go check this place out as I had heard the selection was more then decent and the prices not so bad. So I walked in and all I saw was the wine racks which threw me for a bit, however just glancing to my left there was the other section. It was very nicely stocked I must say. It looked like their focus was primarily on imports, as there were a lot there that I just do not see anywhere else to be honest. Great selection of locals, a nice rack of almost any rogue to be found, all the sammy smiths, and a lot of obscure barleywines and old ales. Prices seemed about in line with everyone else, a little cheaper on some things, a little more on others. Great location though right across from Jack of the Woods, and again parking was not as bad as they are close to the garage. Overall I thought it was decent, they had a fair enough selection to peak my intrest for sure. I would visit again if I cannot find something at my locals. But I would not make it my regular stop, as the normal ones are still a touch better, IMHO.

The prices here varied a bit. Some prices were very good and some were quite high. I got lucky and parked pretty much right in front. The selection was pretty good for a wine first place. They had a selection of glassware. All of their beers were on shelves. There were some beers in the window. There were a few growlers from French Broad. They were cold. The prices on most stuff was a bit lower than normal but the prices on some stuff was just way high. Some of the beers were a bit dusty. Overall, a decent place. I wouldn't go out of my way to get here but if I was near I would stop in again.

Novemeber 15, 2005 visit was a much better experience than when I was there on September 23, 2005. Impressive selection of German and English beers and ales, and a significant increase in the number of Belgians. One Cantiilon, one Fantome, and a couple of Thiriez saisons from France. American microbreweries are vastly underrepresented, but the situation seems to be slowly improving. All of Highland's bottled beers were available, a few Sweetwaters from Georgia(including Festive), but a few Carolina breweries were conspicously absent. They carry a number of French Broad selections in nitro infused growlers that are delivered weekly. Service was good, but it was uncrowded when I was there. Staff seemed reasonably knowledgable and enthusiastic about their beer selection, but, as previously noted, the beers are displayed near a large window. Definitely, worth a stop, but their prices are higher than Asheville's other quality beer outlets.

Stopped here to check out the selection, before heading home from a day of brewery touring in Asheville. Was a bit sceptical, as most a lot of their beers were displayed in the window sill on the street. (LIGHT) They have a good selection of beers, but not good storage. The area is somewhat tight, and all beers are right at front of store near large windows. Hopefully they have a quick turnover. Good display though. Lots of the new high gravity beers to NC were also right there when you walk in. Since we can't get Sweetwater in Charlotte, we jumped on this one. But $8.59 for a 6 pack was pricey to me. I think prices are a little high because the location is so good. Making it easy to charge what you want. Worth a stop, but not somewhere I would buy regularly. Staff seemed taken aback, by a group of homebrewers, and not sure of what to do. Too bad, it's a nice shop, that just needs more storage care.

I've been to the Weinhaus before. The selection is small, but better then their counterparts across town on Biltmore. The problem with the Weinhaus is quality. The place smells and looks old. The beers also don't appear to be well cared for either although some of the beers have only been available in NC in the last month or so.

The selection is good, some micros, some local breweries, but still missing several of the NC breweries to round out the selection. Scary to still see Cottonwood Frostbite on the shelf into July.

I'll go back to The Weinhaus, but only since it is on the beaten path.
