Always a pleasure when I get to go up to Asheville for a day. I swear, one day the family and I will move here, it will happen. Anyways on my latest trip up there I was over in the Barleys area, as usual and looked down the street and saw the Asheville Wine Market. I have never been here to be honest, I do all my shopping at Bruisin Ales or Greenlife, but I was a block away and it started to rain so I figured what the heck. As I mentioned it is right on Broadway, about a block down from Barleys on the opposite side of the street, right next to the Hot Dog King. So lets have a look.

Just through the windows from outside it is very obvious that this was a Wine first store. Very classy and spacious, but absolutly full of wine. The beer was relegated to the very back, and the adjacent walls to. Decent selction. Lots of imports and your more common of the micros. Nothing really to out of this world. Prices seemed reasonable for the agrea, which is usually a little higher then normal due to it being in the center of the city. Staff was very knowledgeable of wine, and when we went towards the beer section they really stayed away for the first 10 minutes we were in the store. Once we were noticed they were courteous and helpful, not soo good at making recommendations, but could easily find anything in the store we were looking for that they had without much of a delay. Decent selection of glassware at the front of the store, again mostly wine oriented, but fairly good beer glass selection as well. The store was very neat and tidy, laid out very well and had a general upscale feel and appearence to it.

Overall not half bad, as others have said there are better beer stops in Asheville if you are there, but a good deal can be found if you are close by. Worth stopping in if you are accross the street, but I wouldnt drive any appreciable distance to go inside/

Compared to other places in NC (Brawleys, City Bev, TW and More), prices here are pretty cheap. I purchased a mixed 8 pack of Highland, Anchor porter, two imports, and Anchor Christmas for $11. Pretty damn cheap if you ask me. Other places dont even allow mixing and if they do the prices are ridiculous. I was very pleased with the selection here. The service was pretty much nonexistent but I really didnt need help anyway. One lady came in and bossed one of the workers around on beer and wine selection and he was happy to oblige. Seemed like a very nice WINE and (in very small letters) beer store. Next time in Asheville, I will visit again.

The Asheville Wine Market is a piece of cake to locate on Biltmore Avenue just South of Barley's. It is a super clean store and well lit. Very well appointed. The quality of all the beer is very good as well.

Unfortunately the selection just left me a bit numb. I expected more from such a beer rich town. They had a few German beer selections and just a few Regionals and NC breweries, but nothing too special. The service was good, I was asked a few times if I needed assistance.

I would return, but not expecting as much and mainly since it is so darn easy to get to and they do have a few beers around warm, in the cooler, and single bottles to boot. Bring in the NC micros and the Regionals and that 3.5 could go to a 4.5 really quickly.

This was my plan B wehn I discovered Bruisin Ale is closed on Mondays, ugh! I was just passing through, so I plan on hitting them on the way home...

Beers drank so far a good quality

Service was frindly enough.

Selection was pretty good, they had a about a 50/50 split of American & Import craft offerings. I would've hoped for more local stuff. My haul was all brooklyn & asheville brewing co offerings. There was enough there to make me happy. This place would be more of reccomendation for mixed purpose shopping, ie.making a wine lover happy at the same time. The wine selection looked very high-brow

Prices seemed very reasonable to me

Stopped in here while visiting Asheville with my wife. Luckily for her, she was able to find more wine to purchase than I was beer. Upon entering the store, head to the left and you will notice the beer coolers straight back against the wall. There are some warm selections on shelves on the left wall and stacks on the floor. They had some standards and locals like French Broad, Highland, Pisgah, and Terrapin. Decent selction of imports, also. Small selection of glassware. Not a bad one stop shop if you are in the general area and need some wine and beer. Though it wouldn't be a bad idea to head up the road a couple miles to Greenlife. This is definitely a wine shop, so go in expecting that and you won't be disappointed.

Interesting store in an interesting town. The majority of the store is wine, however beer does have a good section. There was a cooler with cold beer, and a decent area with packs. Selection seemed to have a good balance of regional, along with other beers, and imports. One of the employees told us that the limit on alcohol % for beer is currently 6.0%, so that is one reason why the selection is not as large as hoped. Still, this seemed to be the best selection in the area. The staff was very friendly, and eager to talk beer. He even gave us a case discount. The inside is a nice open space, where they were playing jazz music. I would recommend stopping in here if you should find yourself in the area.

This was my fifth stop on a recent trip to Asheville. This location was very easy to spot from the road as you are coming into town. There was a small nook on the left side of the store that housed all of the craft beer. As you might can tell by the name of the location, this is a wine store; no doubt about it... As with the previous reviewer, I had to go out of my way to grab someones attention to verify that was all the craft beer they had. He said yes, and instantly walked away... Sad. There was lots of local representation here with a few Belgians, but that was about all that I really saw. Not really that impressed with this location. But at least it looked nice...

This place is located across the street from Barleys, about one block down. The appearance inside the store was very nice and clean. Wine is first and foremost the main attraction here with beer being secondary. However, the beer selection was pretty good with a nice variety of German, Belgian, British and US craft beers. I saw six packs of Anchor Old Foghorn for 11.99 which is the cheapest I've seen it in NC. I also saw Erdinger Pikantus for the first time since the cap was lifted. Service was average. They didn't even notice us when we walked in and it took about 10 minutes for someone to ask it we needed help. Overall, not a bad store but there are better beer stores to be had in Asheville.

This is a place evidently dedicated to wine, but the beer selection was good. There was a section for beers just straight through the door toward the back, where a wall forms but stays open so you can still walk past for more wine. A cooler had some stuff in it, but it was mostly stuff already out so you could take it cold. A couple of bottles were 12 oz. bottles that weren't on the floor. Of course, the local stuff was available, though I didn't see any growlers like most of the places have (which I'd rather get straight off the tap anyway). Nobody spoke to me except at checkout. A few people definitely saw me, but they were much more interested in the customers browsing the wine selection. I did end up taking home several local brews along with some Oskar Blues, and they were all good. It's difficult to rate the prices, since some were higher but some seemed really low.

This place is not hard to find. Right across from Barley's. There is a public parking lot right next to this place as well. The selection was not as good as some other places. This place is wine first. About half the selection is cold and about half is on shelves. The service was about average. I wprobably would not make a habit of stopping in here. There are lots better options in Asheville. If you can park in the public parking lot consider yourself lucky. Stop in here if you are at Barley's, otherwise I would not bother.
