Appearance - Pours muddy auburn in color with an off-white, finger width head. Sub-par retention leads to a sparse, broken layer of microbubbles across the surface. Leaves no lace.

Smell - Flat caramel aroma, with distant earth and spice hop twang.

Taste - Just as flat as the smell. Predominant bland caramel (is that a paradox?), bits of earth and a touch of citrus-like sourness near the finish, like very mild, distant lemon essence. Essentially that's it in a nutshell.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body with nearly dead carbonation. Maybe the worst part of this beer. It feels like it's been opened up for 6 hours now. It's been 10 minutes.

Overall - No freshness date on the bottle, but I hope for their sake this one is way, way old. If not, Marin should think about tweaking or perhaps retiring this one. Simple, flat and boring. Very little positive to say about this beer.

This pours an amber color with thin foam. It doesn’t have an interesting aroma—kinda on the flat, plain side of thing. The flavor is slightly malty. Sweet, but not overly so, with a light body. This is an easy drinking one-note kind of brew, not one I'd reach for again however.

Pours a cloudy light brown with 2.5 fingers head. Sweet caramel gives way to bitter molt in the nose. I get some licorice notes and the american ale yeast lingers. Lots of caramel up front with some chocolate flavor, it's a bit too sweet. The sweetness lasts a while and the hop bitterness comes in at the last second. This beer was way too carbed and tastes a bit watery.

I am not a fan. This thing was all over the place. The malt and hop bitterness were not balanced well at all and it was markedly over carbonated. Mouthfeel was reminiscent of my first homebrew (read: this tastes like an amateur beer). Up the ABV or put some bittering hops in there and I'll like it much better. While you're at it, add some aroma hops as well.

Pours a nice copper-amber color with some nice white foam on top. Aromas of bready malt, caramel and grassy hops. Flavor follows along pretty closely, nicely balanced between the hops and the sweet malt. Certainly a decent beer, but nowhere near the best from a very good brewery.

RBSG09 on tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep brownish amber with a thin tan head. Aroma is crystal malt with some tangy hoppiness. Flavor is big on iced tea with an obnoxious sweetness, the typical result of too much crystal malt. Some caramel and C-hops with a light roasted character and a bready dry finish.

Pours clear copper with an average white head. Average malt and hop aroma, sweeter mroe than citrus, but a bit of both. Taste was average. Caramel malt, on the watery side, grapefruit and oranges inthe hops, with a big caramel and brown sugar finish. Not great, not bad, just average.

From a 22 oz. bottle purchased locally.

Amber with a slight red hint to it. Puffy light tan head. A slight haze to it.

Aroma is fruity with a slight floral character. Slightly musty in the background.

Taste is "old bottle been in the warm truck and warehouse too long before being placed on the store shelf with fluorescent lighting for even longer" It's the lemon iced-tea flavor I've found before in many a pale ale, amber, red and other big hops/big malt beers. Too bad.

Medium bodied and smooth carbonation but with a sharp acidic bite to the finish.

If this beer was in good shape I'd beet it would be pretty tasty. Too many good beers are ruined between the brewery and the glass.

A - A dark amber brew with a large head and a good mount of thick clumps of lacing.

S - A light piney aroma with a touch of malt underneath. Also a bit of a clean noble hop and a touch of pepper.

T - Initially, it is very mild, nearly no sweetness, with a slightly nutty brown ale type malt flavor, then there is a faint touch of pine hops. In the aftertaste there is more of the nutty malt and only a hint of a mild bitterness. It is extremely mild, but what flavor is there is only pleasant.

M - Thin, a little harsh, it makes my tongue feel odd, very refreshing though.

D - Great. I drank half the bomber before I remembered that I was reviewing it.

Consumed on 03/01/08.

Pours medium, clear brown with a fine, almost pillowy one finger head. Subsided soon into a nice, thin layer.

Nose of cherry, honey, sweet malt and some alcohol.

Smooth mouthfeel. Some ghostly cherry notes on the palate, as well as a grainy bread character. Moderately astringent: a bit of pucker in the mouth from this one. Finish has light but substantial bitterness that lingers briefly. There's also a tiny hint of sourness (which I noted in a previous, now-deleted review of an infected bottle).

Not my favorite amber (I like a bigger malt profile), but certainly well-made.

Pours with a lightly hazy, concentrated amber color and is topped by a frothy, initially fat-one-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head. The aroma has a nice, grassy hop character to it up front, but then moves into some fruit notes reminiscent of berries, grapes and even some darker raisin-like notes. The aroma finishes with an inviting, dry toasty, biscuit like malt character.

The flavor, like the aroma, is quite a bit hoppier than I was expecting. Again a grassy, herbaceous hop character leads the charge, but notes of berries and citrus round out the hop flavors. Salty, chewy, crusty multi-grain bread flavors as well as some notes of caramel round out a malty middle. The finish is a mix of dry, toasted grain as well as a lightly lingering hop bitterness. As the beer warms up, the already mentioned malt notes become more noticeable as does a light, caramelized sweetness. The sweetness also brings out some fruity notes of raisins, sweet - slightly concentrated plums and even some notes that are like tart plums. For a beer of this strength, it really has quite a body to it; a thick, chewy character accentuates and is accentuated by the malt flavors here.

This is actually quite a nice brew. I really like the balance between malt and hop here, especially since I was expecting a boring Amber ale.
