"Aged in Woodford Reserve Barrels and then dosed with fresh NC raspberries."
Served from tap into a Raleigh Rare & Vintage Beer Tasting snifter. Poured a massive dark brown with a minimal light tan head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, raspberry, wood, vanilla, and dark chocolate. The flavor was of roasted malt, vanilla, dark chocoalte, raspberry, and fruit. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. I really went into this one expecting something truly special based on the reputation that the brewery holds. However, I did find a solid offering for the style, but the raspberry seemed to be a little muted in this one. I was expecting them to be quite strong, but it was almost hard to pick up on them too much in the flavor. More roastiness than anything going on here. Worth your time if you get the opportunity to try it, but that is about it. Tick.

Just tapped keg of Highland Bourbon Barrel-Aged Raspberry Mocha Stout served in a nonic.
Poured with a generous but modestly durable head. Looks black/brown and nearly opaque yet clear.
S: too much contribution from the bourbon barrel to detect much else.
T: again, too much contribution from the bourbon barrel, but less of a problem than with the aroma. Ample raspberry, faint coffee and hops. Lots of oak.
M: Nicely smooth, medium+ body.
O: (disclosure: not a fan of bourbon). The regular Black Mocha Stout is a relatively frequent beer for me, and I may prefer it to the admittedly more interesting and complex variant.
