Strong, sharp, spicy aroma has fruity and wheaty notes, promising a flavorful beer. It pours a clear, bright solar yellow with a decent, if not thick, white head that leaves minimal lacing. Mouth-filling flavor has firm spicy (mainly cloves and coriander), wheaty and citrus notes plus hints of hops and butterscotch. Lively texture has about average body and plenty of fizz. Lip-smacking and very tasty, refreshing after a summer scorcher.

A: Nice clear light amber, with a good finger of head

S: Clean with a hint of floral sent from the herbs

T: Interesting mix of flavors, almost a little bit spicy but at the same time not overpowering

M: A nice presence for a light smooth beer

O: A good beer for a hot summers day, very enjoyable, and a good balance of hops and malt.

Poured from a bottle into a stange.

A - Hazy orange gold with a smaller to medium size white head.

S - Fruity with orange and lemon.

T - Spicy and lemon comes through. Small amount of hops at the end. A major difference between the bottle and on top is on tap more of the banana and clove come through. Bottle there is little to know banana taste.

M - Very balanced. Medium all the way.

O - It's good. As to be expected it's even better on draft. I think I'll stick to draft only on this one since the banana/clove on draft is just so much better than what can fit into the bottle.

A - Pours with one finger of white foam on top of a very lightly hazy, golden body. The foam settles fairly rapidly and leaves light lace.

S - Soft malt and notes of wheat with some clove and pepper.

T - Soft malt up front with some tart wheat. Lightly sweet notes of clove and red all.e in the middle and a finish of pepper and herbal hops.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - A pretty standard wit bier, the yeast character is decent and it doesn't have the orange and coriander notes that characterize some of the more cloying examples of the style.

Poured into a Bell's tulip on 8/30/12

It appears to have 05/30/12 etched on the glass

Bright tangerine body, but the beer is very cloudy. I tried keeping the sediment in the bottle but it sneaked in; the chunks dissolve to an even cloudiness. The two finger, white head was reluctant and doesn't last long. Half a ring of retention. Lacking any lace.

I like the aroma; it's juicy and pleasant. Lots of fresh orange juice with a mild coriander accompaniment. The malts seem well proportioned as a solid backing of grains and dough. This is mostly about the orange, though.

The taste is quite a letdown, though. The orange is minimized while a husky, tea leaf herbal quality takes over. The orange peel that does come through is too vapid in this case. Coriander is fairly dull. There isn't even a good showing of malt.

The feel is on the lighter side and feels at times thin. Carbonation is moderate but loose. The overall feel seems unsteady.

Overall, there are lot worse things to get into than a bottle of Razor Wit. I do enjoy it more as the beer warms.

A: thin head, no lacing on a cloudy pale golden with very slight brownish hue.

S: fairly unidimensional. peppery and lemon zest, clove, grains and barley.

T: very herbal with both clove and corriander. some lemon with more peppery zest throughout. The pale malt base provides a nice body to a usually thin genre. musty honey notes as well.

M: light to medium body and high carbonation.

Overall: even when a witbeir is good, it doesnt deserve a high rating in my opinion. a 4 or so is max, just my philosophy.

Poured from a bottle into a New Belgium snifter. The beer pours out cloudy and orange-yellow with very low carbonation and a thin head. The nose is very faint with biscuit-like notes and a hint of lemon.

The body is very light and the beer has a nice smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is not as tart as some other beers of this style and is actually a bit on the dry side, especially on the back of the palate where you pick up hints of orange and ginger.

Beers of this style are extremely drinkable and refreshing and this one is no exception. I don't get much clove or coriander on the palate and it's not as tart as most wits, but it is noticeably dry. It's a nice take on the style.

Tulip

A: Cloudy, fluffy white thin head slowly fades to a ring of bubbles. Body a vibrant hazy yellow color with an orangish hue.

S: Zesty spice, mellow hops, creamy malt body.

T/M: Tangy, lively mouth feel lets the spice shine which have a distinct bitterness. Yeast is not as dominant as I am accustomed too. Picking up a pilsner malt characteristic in the beginning with some skunky/sour hops.

O: Tons of peppery goodness. Perfect refreshing beer on a hot summer day for a picnic. Tons of flavor make for a sipper, low alcohol allows for thorough enjoyment.

a hazy orange yellow pour with a small amount of head which quickly dissipated. smells of honey, orange peel, bready yeast, lemongrass. taste is kind of weird.. i taste a little bit of mint.. not bad, just different. lemon citrus/orange.. bready yeast. light body, mild carbonation.. no retention or lacing.

it's hard to make a GOOD witbier.. they're so "standard" that it's hard for one to stick out, but this one has kind of a funky after taste that allows it to stick out. somewhat refreshing, could be a bit better with higher carbonation i think.

Pours golden with a snow white head and some scant lacing. This wit is definitely on the dry side, emphasizing a pleasant yeastiness and herbalness rather than citrus. Quite prominent coriander, in both the nose and taste, and a yeasty breadiness that marries well with the herbal notes. The herbs have a drying effect, and while this makes a particularly savory beer, it lacks a bit of acidity and hence, some zing. The finish, particularly good use some zip. An unusual take on the style, and one I enjoyed as a change of pace, but not quite the thirst quencher I was looking for for the Southern summer.

A: This poured a hazy gold with a little white head.
S: It smelled like lots of coriander and clove, with some mint and fennel and a bit of fresh wheat and lemon zest.
T: It tasted like lemon zest and clove and coriander, with some mint and fennel and a bit of fresh wheat and wild honey. It had a clean and bitter aftertaste.
M: It was somewhat thick with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a nice spicy witbier. The scent and taste were pretty complex but still mild and easy to enjoy. The body was alright, and the finish was fairly smooth, so it was quite drinkable. Good summer beer.

Poured into a standard pint a hazed lemony color with a nicely formed 1/2 finger white head atop.Aromas are somewhat yeasty with mild spice ans ant toastiness.Flavors are of toasted cereal grain and light spice,pretty straight forward and uncomplicated.It' an easy drinking summer quaffer without a whole lot of complexity,pedestrian compared to most of Highland's wares.

Poured a hazy blonde-orange with a light white head. It lacks the fine bubbles and lacing of a bottle conditioned wit, but that's my only complaint. Otherwise there's a smooth, subtle earthy apricot with mild spice and a layer of fresh bread and dough underneath. I wouldn't call it crisp, but its also not heavy. Overall, a fine example of the style. I appreciate that it's not too fruity.

A - hazy copper yellow with a soft, loose, white head that has good retention

S - faint coriander, yeast, musty

T - lemon, coriander, yeast, a bit spicy

M - light bodied, smooth, well carbonated

This is a rather simplistic beer. The flavor is there but it's very subdued. There's nothing that really stands out to me. It's refreshing, but forgettable.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy dark yellow with barely a head at all. Pretty atypical for a witbier.

The aroma has an odd musty note along with they typical fruit associated with a wit. Peaches and lemon are detectable but also that odd funky smell.

The taste is very spicy with ginger being a large aspect which explains the odd smell. There is lemon behind the ginger but it stays in the background. Finishes pretty crisp and a little tart. Moughfeel is quite watery.

Overall, not a very good offering from a brewery with a line of excellent beers. The ginger just does not work, in my opinion plus it is too watery. Probably won't get this one again.

Really wanted to find this on tap in Durham, but I had to settle for a bottle.

Pour is only slightly cloudy with no head. Not the greatest looking Wit, but not terrible. Smell is mostly dominated by the Belgian yeast. Slight spicy notes (pepper?). Nice strong coriander presence, but I get that small hint of ginger which is throwing me for a loop. I like it though.

I see why everyone loves this beer now. Theres a nice dose of spices in this puppy. I like how the ginger comes out, but doesnt take over. Its almost spicy in nature, unlike the full-bodied presence of GL Christmas Ale. That ginger kind of accents the strong spicy coriander as well.

The yeast is there, but not too much. Bready, yet not overpowering. Missing the esters I usually expect from Wits, but with all those spices, I dont mind at all.

Light body and drinkable. Its not spicy like black pepper spicy, just a good bit of coriander, ginger, and some others.

The NC brewers have really been flexing their brewing muscles with new beers lately. Between this, Thunderstruck, BCBB DPAC Dunkelweizen, and Fullsteam Beasley's, Im at a loss.

Finger plus of pure white foam, delicate and dimples easily, dimples quickly and then forms a thin layer across the surface, minimal lacing. Big storm of bubbles inside the glass, no beads, not quite transparent with a certain dullness to the light orange hued liquid, even with slight yellowing at the edge of the glass presents a consistent depth of hue. The nose is easygoing yet pungent, coriander, caraway, juniper, pepper and tea leaves, strong orange and lemon pith but not so floral, the wheat light as well, a glance of peach, apricot pit. Medium-bodied, were it not for its dryness it would seem really fluffy, heavily carbonated. There is a bitter, if not metallic, touch to it, here the wheat and graininess very apparent. The orange, tangerine citrus steady and the coriander and other spices not looking to hog the spotlight. Any yeastiness does little to soften the texture. A moment or two of cocoa along with that tea leaf and apricot, pear fruit. Lingers well, no wimp by any stretch. Too slowly paced and bottom heavy to refresh fully but you respect the depth of the few well chosen flavors.

Hazy gold topped with a fluffy, frothy white head that rapidly deflates to a bubbly cap. Lovely, authentic wit aromas of coriander, lemon, orange peel, sweet floral notes, and spicy wheat. Even some mild fragrant nobel hops are noticeable. The only knock is that it's pretty mellow overall. Spices, citrus zest, and coriander hit the tongue...a fine sweetness through the middle complements the spiciness nicely. Wheaty tartness, herbal/earthy hops - crisp and medium-light. Some light creaminess. Nicely done Highland...

12oz bottle served in a snifter.

A: Hazy orange-gold with about a finger of white head. The head is mostly short-lived, but leaves a ring as well as some spotty lacing. Some sediment remained on the bottom of the bottle despite more-or-less emptying the bottle. Give it a swirl before pouring if you want more spices and yeast.

S: Sweet and fruity, this smells like a spicy witbier with notes of lemon-orange and coriander.

T: A rather spicy witbier, but not over done, and with an excellent mix of spices. Orange peel and coriander are most obvious, along with the banana/yeast flavor. Also obvious, a generous and well-proportioned load of noble hops and wheat. All too brief aftertaste.

M - Excellent medium+ carbonation level; near medium body; smooth yet crisp; slightly dry finish. 4.25

O: not a favorite style of mine, but with the well chosen spices and generous (for style) use of noble hops, this well-crafted witbier is one of the best I've ever had.

Poured into a tulip, has a nice pale gold color with a nice cloudy appearance. Large creamy white head. Lacing is very strong.

Smell is srong cirtus/orange notes up front. A bit of lemon as well, then followed by spicy notes. Very good in terms of the stlye, but not what I would call an overly assertive smell.

Taste is slightly sweet upfront followed up by the strong citrus component. No real assertive hop presence to speak of, which is fine for the style. The spices really come through here, but beyond the usual corriander I won't even pretend to guess what they are. Nothing outlandish though, and it flows very well with the citrus.

Mouthfeel is full, creamy, and smooth. The carbonation is just about perfect for this style and probably the highlight of the beer for me.

I've had plenty of witbiers over the years and the usual fall under the "eh" category for me. This one really stood out for me though, in terms of being a relatively light beer that packs a ton of flavor to go with a full, smooth, yet easydrinking mouthfeel.

I had this beer at the Mellow Mushroom in Anderson, SC with some very good vegetarian pizza.

Appearance: A clear amber, with a good amount of head and lacing. Very good looking (but I think most beer is).

Smell: Reminded me of Bell's Oberon Ale...a little bit of herbal and citrus, but some piney notes from the hops.

Taste: I really enjoyed this. I have been in Germany on business and have been able to taste MANY great German hefeweissen beers and Belgian wit biers on tap, and I like that Highland was created their own version of a wheat beer. It has an herbal/piney nose that I enjoy in a beer and am not used to in a wheat beer.

Overall: I would definitely have it as a regular in my fridge. For me, it is a great session beer.

16 ounce pint - $5.25 at Taco Mac in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a golden body, quite hazy, underneath a finely-textured, white head with good staying power.

Smell: Crisped barley and subtle wheat, incredibly mild graininess. Small pinch of orange peel and peppery spices paired with an equally modest, distant note of honey.

Taste: Upfront light pale maltiness with sort of a neutral wheatiness. Low honeyish sweetness present which drops out as a pop of sour dough character and graininess kick in. Mingled spiciness, some of the heat from the Grains of Paradise showing and a bit of dried orange peel. Dry, lightly spicy, lightly citrusy finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: A middle-of-the-road, summertime seasonal offering, though a slight step up from the beer it's supplanting, Cattail.

A- A lemony haze opaque beauty. Poured into a Tulip glass, not the suggested glass. Had a 1.5 inch head.

S- The smell was refreshing with a fruity, coriander, lemony nose. Had a very clean nose.

T- Really loved the taste. Had a yeasty somewhat banna flavor. Followed the nose in that it was very refreshing and clean.

M- The mouthfeel was a medium thickness.

O- Overall really enjoyed this on a very hot summer day in Atlanta. Will get a growler of this again soon.

Served from tap into a shaker. Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, fruit, spice, and clove. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, banana, perfume, and floral. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. I was quite intrigued when I saw this one on the tap list and didn’t know quite what to expect. However, what I found was definitely on par for the style. Not quite standoutish on the flavor or aroma, but did take a slight step up in the mouthfeel compared to the average brew from the style. This one was quite refreshing, but lacked a lot of complexity making it not quite as enjoyable as it could have been. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance and are a fan of the style, but not one of Highland’s great offerings.

Server on tap at Summit's Wayside Tavern in Snellville, GA. May 22, 2012. Reviewed from notes.

(Appearance) color is a pale and hazy golden orange with a light subtle surface cover. Appearance is nice. 3.5

(Smell) aroma consists of a hint of wheat, banana, citrus, spice and clove. Hops are not present. 3.5

(Taste) taste is sharp and prickly with flavor. A bit more presence of the bitter orange peel and bold spice on the front. Follows with a mild spicy grainy flavor and finishes with a fizzy tart fruit and honey tone. One of the more complex wits that I have had but it is a really pleasing flavor. 4

(Mouthfeel) really prickly mouthfeel, I understand it's a bit on for the style but it can be a bit much and could benefit from a tone down. 3

(Overall) enjoyable summery beer from Highland. Plenty of flavor and character that makes this an original wit amongst a occasionally bland series of average brews. 4
