Poured from a (500ml??) bottle into a nonic, served at cellar temp.

Stunningly clear copper/ amber supports a thick meringue of vanilla caramel khaki, Excellent lacing.

aroma of toffee, lightly toasted pale malt and a herbal hoppiness.

mouthfeel: average

taste: huge malt presence followed by some plums and an old oaky sort of tea like bitterness.

notes: Calls itself a Holiday Ale. Kind of an Old Ale to me but it is good, a malt bomb with accompanying bitterness and some vinous, fruity flavor and a touch of oak. Good stuff.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and some dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and somewhat thin bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but I like the way it smells over the way it tastes.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium amber hue with a nice haze and a robust effervescence. Head is a very thin layer of ivory foam without much retention. Aside from the head, quite nice looking.

Smell: sweet, malty aroma with a hint of raisins and plums. Not bad, but there is almost a sour or funky quality that is not really sour or funky in a good way. But for that, it's not bad.

Taste: toasted malt up front which is drier than I would have guessed from the aroma. This develops a little bit into a sweeter, fruitier flavor with tobacco and raisin flavors. Bitterness is low to moderate. Not bad, but it doesn't really pique my interest.

Mouthfeel: nice and smooth with a medium body and decent creaminess. I like it.

Overall: this is not a bad beer; it's a nice, mild choice for a winter warmer. But really, there's not a whole lot to recommend it.

Poured into a snifter.

3.5 A: Ruddy amber plum color. One and a half fingers of foamy off-white head. Retention was lacking, but a decent amount of lacing was left behind.

3.5 S: Malt heavy featuring caramel, toffee, and raisin and plum fruitiness. A few doses of mineral as well. Breadiness from the yeast. Quite earthy without much of a hop presence.

3.5 T: Bready foremost with caramel, light toffee, plum and raisin fruitiness and possibly some dates. Again a good bit of mineral. Yeasty.

3.5 M: Medium body. Mellow carbonation, but appropriate. Lightly creamy.

3.5 D: Decent beer, but not very exciting overall.

Deep bronze color with a quick head and no residual foam. Good bubbling.

Sweet malty, bready, biscuity, cake aroma. Not overwhelming sweetness, but bring a smile to your face. Toasty malt, baking cake mix smells, with crackers and biscuits.

Light oily texture to the palate seems to enhance this beers sweetness. Baked angel food cake sweetness with bread crust, crackers, biscuits, and crumptes. Maybe even some Xmas spice in nuance. The yeast and malt combo gie off a few fruity flavors too.

Well rounded, tasty beer full of flavor.

Clear dark amber colored ale with a wispy white head.

Smell is sweet and herbal with the scent of English style hops. Butter, leather, leaf tobacco and toffee candy. Little bit of cinnamon and ginger.

Starts out much drier than it smells. Butter and toffee with a little lemon, not very spiced though. Little bit of cinnamon and that is about it. Mostly this tastes like an English Pale Ale.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall this is OK. Nothing special here, I can take it or leave it.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2012. ABV is stated as 4.7%.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear orange-amber hue with good carbonation. Forms a small off-white head that lasts for a minute or so before disappearing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with notes of toffee, butterscotch and stewed hops. A hint of diacetyl and a whiff of alcohol in the background.

Tastes of caramel malt with a lingering bitter finish. Notes of toffee, brown sugar and stewed leaves, followed by a harsh bitterness. A whisper of diacetyl in the background. Mouthfeel is rather thin, with tingly carbonation and considerable astringency. Aftertaste of bitter stewed leaves.

A seriously underwhelming Christmas ale with a weak and unpleasant character. Lots missing from this one; more malt and a sweeter, fruitier, spicier flavour. The harsh bitterness can go as well. Not impressed - a beer to avoid.

Clear & a light reddish copper colour with a pinky sized, creamy white head that leaves a tiny bit of lacing on the glass.

Mild on the nose with very little smell at all, after some effort I could detect some background caramel aromas and hints of toffee along with a biscuit like, malty aroma but nothing else really.

Caramel and butterscotch are the most prominent flavours from this one along with a bitter, toffee like taste. I was quite disappointed with the taste of this one, it was pretty basic and unexciting.

Creamy on the palate to begin with and minimal carbonation and an overly bitter end.

This one had almost nothing going for it and was a real struggle to drink; not a beer I enjoyed or would have again. Only the butterscotch notes were pleasant but not much else.

Bateman's Rosey Nosey

Pours a bright copper color, with a soapy white head. Aromas of toffee, butterscotch, caramel and floral, herbal hop. In the taste, toffee, buttery diacetyl, and a nice bit of noble hop bitterness. Much akin to the English ESB, this is certainly more of a bitter than a warmer. Refreshingly unspiced (though there is a vague suggestion of white pepper and cinnamon in the finish), this drinks like an English session ale. Mouthfeel is light bodied, and overall, this is a nice simple brew.

This beer took me by surprise in a number of ways, although it wound up being fairly unexceptional in the end. First, it poured a very clear dark gold color with a modest head and lacing to match; was expecting a much darker brew. Also, carbonation was quite lively; ultimately even a bit prickly on the tongue, which I didn’t expect from this nearly 2-year old bottle.

Aroma and taste were both fairly mild; trace sweetness; bready malt, light spices, pretty much no hop presence save a little bittering at the end. As the beer warmed some little details emerged, particularly the raisin/date/general fruitcake flavor, toffee, and woody notes.

Not all that interesting overall. Easy drinking with light flavors for a winter warmer; not bad but a little bland and a touch overcarbonated for my liking.

Pours a clean orange-ish to deep amber color with an off white head. In the aroma, dark fruit, especially raisins. In the taste, dark fruit, especially raisin and a small malt backing. A smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a semi dry raisin like fruitiness in the aftertaste. Big raisin flavor with a lighter body, OK, but nothing exciting.

Poured into a dimpled handled pint pot to produce a rich dark brown body with reddish hues and a thin big bubbled head.

The aroma given off by this beer is malty biscuit, hops and all spice.

The taste is nice but not really enough with bitter notes red fruits and hints of cinnamon but it finish with a nasty artificial metallic taste.

worth a try but really left me cold for a winter warmer.

Reading the other reviews here, I have begun to wonder if I had a bad bottle. The beer I cracked open was utterly undrinkable, and I dumped the entire thing after about six sips. Was it the beer? Or just that my taste is tremendously different from everyone else's? Who can say.

But what I can say is:

The beer poured a rich copper with a thin, airy head that quickly faded to nothing. The nose was very rich with a lot of malty-sweetness, toffee, copper, prunes, and overripe fruit.

It was very, very syrupy with very little carbonation. Cloying sweet with a whallop of intense flavors. Most of the flavors centered around rotten fruit, with a bit of prune juice and cloves mixed in. As it warmed, it got sweeter, a little breadier, but really way too rotten tasting to be drinkable for my palate.

I generally love winter warmers, but this beer didn't have that full, overripe fruit flavor that can be so appealing in a beer. Rather, that fruitiness went straight to a rotten flavor that I just couldn't get past.

Drink with caution.

A: Dark coppery-orange from the bottle with a pie crust colored head that was soapy and weak. A beautiful ruby-burgundy when backlighted shows a crystal clarity and a slow lazy rising effervesce centered within.

S: Fruity nose mixes with cherry wood and sweet toasted grains. Dried apple peels with a light spicy hopping. Light and refrained.

T: The flavor was toasted sweet of crystal malts, with strong raisiny hints, perhaps from a darker variety. Light rum alcohol notes with some figs add some support and holiday cheer much like a dried fruit cake. Touches of fennel and rosewood while it finishes dry with some dark crystal malt raisiny notes.

M: Tight and bubbly mouthful, malty and syrupy of medium weight.

O: Overall not your typical overly spiced holiday beer, has a more subtle, maltier variety with a dark raisiny finish. The more it warms up, the more evident the dark crystal malts and raisiny tones become.
