Silly Sour is a unique brew that blends 13% of traditional dark Saison with 87% of soured ale. The delicate malt notes from the Saison manage to break through the striking green apple sourness upfront and than give a way to a finishing jolt of lactic sourness! At an approachable 5.5% Alc. by Vol. this chestnut colored brew adds a new page in the history of Saison brewing.

Pours amber ruby red with a creamy frothy off-white foam head. Smells like candied red grapes, sweet black grapes, caramelized figs, dried cherries, prunes, dark dried fruit, dried red fruit, cranberry jam, raisin, stewed plum, apple, oxidized red wine, fruity molasses, dark caramel malt, nutty toffee, dried fruit, a hint of chocolate, mild barnyard farmhouse funk, with dusty earthy floral hops. Taste follows with dark dried fruits, oxidized wine, dark caramel malts, fruity molasses, nutty toffee, a hint of chocolate, dried fruit, sour apple, cranberry, raisin, stewed plum, dried cherries, caramelized fig, candied red grapes, sweet black grapes, prunes, dried red fruit, mild acidity, a touch of spice, some barnyardy farmhouse funk, with dusty earthy floral hops. Feels medium-lighter bodied, creamy and slick with moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice blended sour dark saison.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip.
Pours a dark nut-brown and cloudy with a fizzy fast-subsiding head but good clingy lacing, albeit a bit thin.
Sweet and tangy on the nose, sort of like a sweet-tart, but with a lower acidity. Mild green apple and apple-cider aromas melded with faint funk and pepper.
The brew is solidly sweet on the very tip of the tongue with some subdued malic acidity in midstream. White grape and green apple fruitiness. Some vague woody/oak notes.
The brew has a fair amount of residual sugar for the style and isn't as dry as normally anticipated. Still well carbonated and fairly light.
Overall, a solid but not spectacular version of the style.

Stupid sour morelike. Not very sour at all. Not very malty either. Kinda MOR unsophisticated — disappointing!
Also not especially good. The name of this brew really did it a disservice.
