A: Golden reddish brown. Dark copper. Clear and extremely epravescant. Off white sticky foam that coats the glass.
S: Citrus and roasted grain. Slight floral notes of tulip and green grass.
T: Bready flavors to start. Lemon and orange rind rounds out the taste, but the sweet malty oaky finish persists and finishes longer.
M: Light and refreshing. A woody finish lingers in the back of the mouth a bit long.
O: Great hot weather ipa. This one is smooth and refreshing. A very well rounded ipa with a nice hop and grain balance.

A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a half finger high beige head that has good retention properties and consistently left a thin dense head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of passionfruit hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the passionfruit flavors from the Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin hops are much stronger and there are also some hints of gooseberries. A moderate amount of bitterness is present.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA is very flavorful and quite easy to drink. I really enjoyed the taste of the New Zealand hops.

Bottled 12/19/12.
Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin rings of lace of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, rye, citrus fruit, and earthy hop aromas. Taste is much the same with spicy rye and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a spicy presence from the interaction of the rye and hops used.

I love IPAs infused with rye.
Pours a dark gold with a huge frothy head into my glass. Great way to start things off!
Spicy rye and freshly-cut grass stand out in the nose. Hoppiness is balanced and not off the charts.
Ditto for the taste. Spicy rye and grassy hops work well upfront. Chewy. Flavorful.
Lingering spicy rye notes and grassy hop notes make up the mouthfeel. It meshes well with the spicy dish I'm enjoying.
Hop aroma could have been stronger but otherwise, this is an excellent beer for the spring.

This one caught my newly developed RYE EYE right away at the craft beer store when I saw the name O'RYEly. I've yet to have a labeled RYE beer that I have disliked - so, if it says RYE...it's a BUY! And if you haven't yet had a rye - make it a TRY!
OK, I'll shut up - probably the rye talkin' anyhow...
POUR = Very clean amber - a delight to look at!
AROMA = Herbal bouquet says IPA, spice and evergreen.
HEAD = One finger, full and stubborn all the way to the bottom with lasting heavy lace
MOUTHFEEL = exactly on target
FLAVOR = That beautiful lasting rye bread aftertaste with the hop kick
This is the first time that I've had a Widmer Brothers Brewing Company (Portland, OR) offerring and I can absolutely sat that - won't be the last!

Pours a rich amber, with nice head. Thick, detailed lace.
Nose is crisp citrus and floral hops. Very appealing.
Taste is nicely hopped, but with enough malts to prevent any acidic or bitter followthrough. The rye shines through with a sharpness, but it's subtle.
Overall, a drinkable and enjoyable IPA -- not overly memorable, but certainly solid.

It seems like every year somebody releases a Rye IPA that I just fall in love with and can't stop drinking. Last year it was Sierra Nevad's Ruthless. This year it's Widmer's O'ryely. The hop aroma is intoxicatingly spicy. The taste is spicy, somewhat fruity and refreshing. The hop flavor is tropical tasting that's the only way I can describe it. I know that the hops are from New Zealand and considered tropical. Maybe knowing that results in a placebo effect, but the end result is the same. This beer is absurdly drinkable. This is a unique beer and it has become the only one that I want to drink as of late. It is also reasonably priced at Fred Meyer and Safeway. I was surprised that such a fine beer came from Widmer. They usually have solid beers, not transcendent ones such as this. I think this speaks to the competition among breweries in the Portland area. 'Nuff said hands down 'nuff said (Requisite moronic internet catch phrases)

Had on tap a couple times, and it was great. Let's see how's it's holding up.
Pours a amber ale with a finger of white foam which falls to a sheet of the same leaving a spotty lace. Lots of grapefruit on this one with some tangerine; a really nice nose here. I like the fruit play. Some bitterness up front then followed closely with a sweet, english maltiness and some tea like hop flavors alongside the tangerine mentioned earlier. Nice flavor, not nearly as nice as the nose. Medium bodied with light carb an a semi dry finish.
This is a good beer, and I would gladly buy again next year if they offered it up.
Had again march 2013, new score reflects that experience.

Dec 05 12 bottling date. Clear copper with a decent head and good lacing. Malty aroma, fruit. Caramel, earthy, a bit of alcohol. Rye shows up in the finish. Medium body and low-medium carbonation. Would have expected more hops, but could be age related.

The O'Ryely poured a clear amber color with a good 1-2 finger head. Lacing crept down the glass throughout the beer. The smell was a citrus bomb with grapefruit and a slight spicy note. The rye came through with a tiny kick but was complemented by the sweet malt taste. A lot of tropical fruit and citrus came with the taste. The hop profile balanced and left a mark on the top plate of the mouth. Overall this is one of my favorite of the Rye beers as brewers have been rushing to get this category to market.

Picked up a sixer at the Kapaa Foodland for $8.99. Bottled on 12-9-12.
Beer poured a reddish brown with a decent white head that is leaving some lacing behind.
Nose is of pine and citrus, quite nice!
Taste is of toasted malts, rye, tropical fruit, and pine.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and carbonated nicely.
Overall this is a pretty solid brew, right up there with SNBC Ruthless Rye!

Poured chilled into a tulip pilsner.
Pours a nice clear bronze color with about half an inch of beige head that quickly recedes with light surface layer and lacing.
Aromas of citrus blossoms and spice.
Strong flavor of grapefruit with a spicy, grassy background.
Light to medium bodied with a sweet clean finish and moderate carbonation.
Overall a nice well balanced IPA from WB. Would definitely try again.

Bottled on Dec.19 2012.Pours a copper brass color with a lacey half finger white head atop.Floral and tropical fruit hop aromas over top of sweet biscuit malts.Flavors are quite fruity with the Selson Sauvin hops shining through, the rye imparts a decent sharpness with the malt profile being pretty dry gining off some grainy notes.A solid beer,it won't knock your socks off but it's flavorful enough.

Draught, two finger off-white head, moderate carbonation.
Smells of rye whiskey, hop, and rope
Tastes: Rye, floral hops, citrus, and bitter finish

Tan and orange tinted, clear, head was ok and lacing is ok.
Aroma is a bit grassy with a good spiciness from the rye and a nice hoppy smell too.
Flavor is mild and balanced. The rye adds a nice touch of complexity. It's hoppy but isn't a hop bomb.
Body is medium, carbonation is ample but smooth.
It's quite tasty. Every one of the sixer will be enjoyed.

12 oz. bottle,
A: Pour amber red with a medium white head, some soapy spotty type lace.
S: Grass and citrus with a hint of rye spice. Smells a bit like a few of the other Widmer IPAs I've had in the past.
T: Rye and heavy grain balanced well with notes of dandelion greens, melon rind, lemon/assorted citrus.
M: Crisp carbonation, nice medium-bodied mouthfeel, creamy with a nice hoppy aftertaste.
O: A good solid IPA. Nothing too special, but IPA fans would certainly enjoy a pint of this.

Bomber into standard pint.
A: pretty normal pour gets minimal head and it formed a very thin cap. Looks like the lacing might be alright though. Good reddish amber color, rye does not lie. Quite clear also.
S: yet another citrusy slightly grassy hop armoa heavy IPA. I must live in Oregon or something. A slightly sweet note on the nose and a bit of spice although very faint. The citrus leans toward orange in this one moreso than grapefruit like in most NWIPA.
T: He hops aren't as overbearing as on the nose, much more balanced than it smells. Starts with wash of flavor that matches the nose. But finishes with a bit more of thsat spice. Surprisingly clean finish on this. Normally I like a little lingering but the crispness does well to keep the heavy hopping at bay. What little lingering flavor there is, is slightly sweet and ever so slightly hopped. Pleasant.
M: the body is as expected. A little heavier than a pale ale but still nothing to make you reach for a spon. Minimal carbonation explains the lack of head and maybe the thickness. A few more bubbles would lighten it up into a sessionable summer brew.
O: good IPA, not amazing but by no means bad.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance –Pours a deep amber color with a thick and persistent just off white head. The head lingers on for quite some time fading slowly to leave a great level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is very light. It consists of a bit of bready smells mixed with some caramel and a lighter hop smell.
Taste – The taste begins of rye bread with notes of caramel sweetness. Some citrus grapefruit hop is present up front, which ends up getting stronger as the taste moves on further. An earthy bitter flavor also comes to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. These hops remains till the end where a smooth rye and citrus/earthy bitter flavor is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a little on the thicker and more syrupy side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are pretty nice for the bready flavors of the brew as well as for giving all the hoppy flavors a chance to be sensed well by the tongue.
Overall – A pretty easy to drink IPA. A nice blend of rye and hop (although a slightly more hopped taste up front and at the end may have been slightly more appeasing to the rye flavor).

Bottled 12/19/12.
12oz bottle served cold into a chalice.
O'Ryely is a beautiful amber red color with perfect clarity. The head is thick and slow to settle leaving great lacing behind.
Aroma is hoppy with some good citrus and plenty of big pine.
Flavor is spicy like a good rye beer should be but also has a night of hop bitterness. There even seems to be an underlying smoke quality to it which works well with the spicy black pepper character.
Mouthfeel is medium-light in body and well carbonated. It's fairly well balanced but leans towards the bitter.
Overall a solid rye IPA. Not as good as my current favorite from Renegade but still good.

Poured a nice two fingers of head, good lacing; clear, copper colored body.
The aroma is mostly grapefruit with a touch of spice and lemon.
The taste is medium bitterness: moving from grapefruit to lemon with a little sweet note at the end. Smooth and flowing flavors.
A softer textured IPA with moderate carbonation and medium body.

Poured into 9oz pilsener glass. Poured a lightly hazy light amber color with over a half-inch of just off-white head that dissipated quickly at first, but then then held onto the last 1/8 inch for a surprisingly long time before settling into a ring that left good lacing.
All the expected IPA aspects were present, but in a very soft and subdued form. Even the crisp Rye was very low-key. The flavors were the same, about what I expected, just in a toned down form. The most notable feature was the Rye bite at the back of the tongue, but even that was just a nibble from a puppy.
The body was that of an average IPA, on the light side of medium, clean, and relatively smooth. Drinkability was OK, but the lack of outstanding flavors means you could better spend your calorie and alcohol budget on other beers. Overall, a decent, but not notable, brew. Worth a shot if you can buy a single before investing in a sixer.

12 oz brown longneck with clear freshness dating. Poured in to my SA perfect pint, the beer is dark bronze with a thick beige head. It has decent lacing.
Nice aroma of pine, some spice from the rye and caramel malts.
The taste is a nice combination of resin, rye, caramel and toasted malts. The flavors are balanced and well integrated. I like rye beers and this one hits the mark for me.
The mouth has some heft, but I would like to see the carbonation turned down 1/2 a notch.
Easy drinking beer, maybe at 6.4% a touch to much to session but I sure enjoy them.

Poured from a bit above the glass give this beer a big off white to light tan head above a clear honey amber colored beer that settles into a bisquity small mound in the middle of the glass with an average sized lacing lining the edges of the glass.
A light mixed aroma of toasted caramel malts, sour fruits, grains, light hops, and maybe even a little sugar added.
A dry rye grain taste is blended well with a slight bitterness from the hops and the citrus notes from those. The citrus hops and the rye taste seem to be tied together my a slight caramel malt taste.
Quite dry is the aftertaste with some of the rye taste staying around for more scrutiny.
A beer I think I could drink a few of, would lie to try this with quite of few different kinds of food. Umm, Mahi Mahi and O'ryely IPA?

12oz Bottle from Total Wine Las vegas NV for 1.69
Appearance - Clear copper colour with an average size frothy light beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some fairly good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes.
Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, grapefruit, apricots
Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste hops, malts, and caramel. There is also a bit grapefruit, apricot, and pineapple. It ends with a malty sweet aftertaste and some mild hop bitterness.
Overall - Pretty good stuff that I would like to try fresh or on tap. On of the better Widmer beers I've had. Worth a try if you like west coast tasting IPA's.
