A beer with split personality disorder. Is it a stout or an IPA? Both and neither. A deep brown color gives the initial stout impression but a light citrusy aroma is present leading one to believe it's and IPA. However, the first taste is all malt. In the middle the hops find their way to your palate and as you swallow there is a balance between the felt like hops and the viscous malts. This beer becomes more malty as you continuously sip but if you take a break, the hops become much more noticeable.

This beer definitely keeps you guessing and is a very good value. In the end, I would have preferred a more hoppy concentration in a black IPA but I can understand why this would have won a gold medal.
