Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. 02/12/09.
Pours a clear golden orange color with a thin half-finger white head which quickly dropped to a thin layer. Aroma is of grassy hops and a bit of sweet malt.
Taste starts with sweet malty biscuit and slight grapefruit, and finishes with a bitter kick of grassy hops. That's about it - nothing complex, but pretty well-balanced and simply good. Feel is medium-bodied with plenty of carbonation. The finish is slightly dry. Drinkability is pretty good. It's refreshing and not overly bitter.
This would make a pretty good gateway IPA.

Scrappy notes from 2011.
6 pack of 12 oz bottles.
Pours a nice cloudy gold with a dull white head and leaves lots of lacing on the glass. I smell caramel and malts with fruity hops. It tastes sweet and bright with some caramel malts and some citrus notes. Lots of hops. It drinks smooth and easy and is crunchy. The water is soft feeling. It finishes crisp without and bitter linger. A really good tasting IPA.

Came in darker than average, dark amber vibe, hit all the C hops in the aroma, some late stage, probably centennial.
Good mix of citrus and pine, sturdy malt backbone of caramel that isn't too heavy. A pretty neat beer at a good price, wish they would make this one again, its plenty solid for just over $1, gives a hop fix perfect for spring time before you want a lighter shade of pale ale or ipa.

To me this beer was too bitter, even for an IPA.

Appearance: Hazy medium golden in color, with a modest white head, which soon collapses to scattered patches of foam. Thin lacing coats the glass walls.
Aroma: Caramel notes are accompanied by pine hops.
Taste: Opens with caramel malt and aggressive pine hops. AS the taste progresses, the caramel malt shines through a bit, offering some balance to the fairly intense hops. Finishes with a wave of pine tar hops and a little sweet malt.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, fairly pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: A decent example of the style, I wonder why Widmer Brothers stopped brewing it?
Presentation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
