Pours a deep black color, good long lasting head on it. Aroma was imparting sweet moreso than roast, a tinge of vanilla to it.

Taste, easy drinking, mildly sweet lactose aspect of this stout. Didn't pick up the vanilla like I did in the nose, but it had a little more roast this time, although very hidden and subdued all along. Can't pick up any hop bitterness, which is usually one of the things Widmer has going in almost every beer they make. Slick, mild carbonation enhances drinkability (this is a Bud product now right?).

As the beer warms, the mouthfeel is more and more lactose, which is fine by me, I think creme brulee is awesome, so this is no problem. A good beer for into to milk stouts, but can also be appreciated by the biggest baddest double stout barrel aged in bourbon and nuclear moonshine kind of guy too.

I think Widmer should bring this and Broken Halo back. Cool designs, cool beers.

I'm pretty biased towards this beer as it has been my favorite and now like the unicorn will never be found again.

Aroma a nice sweet caramel tone with a hint of smoke in the background.

Pours a nice dark color and the head that is created resembles a beautiful milkshake. This beer taste so good it has such a depth of malt and the style of milk stout produces a richness that would make this beer an amazing desert. It has a slight smoke flavor in it but I believe it is not a smoked beer probably from the malt used.

Like I said before a beer that will be remembered.

Tasting notes dated 21/03/08

Fairly fresh sample: bottled Pours as black as a Divorce Lawyer's heart...light sticky mocha cap...low carbonation.

Aroma is lightly sweet with large cocoa tones a whisp of grass. Wonderfully silky smooth and rich mouth feel and texture (lactose) lightly sweet but not cloying, coffee-coca. light but sufficient hop bittering...long finish where the sweet lactose-cocoa give way to a gradual bittering from hops and black patent malt charred astringence...wonderfully approachable stout....very drinkable

A- Black with a 2 inch tan head nice lacing.

S- Light roasted malt, a mild coffee note,

T- malty with hints of coffee and cream. A hint of chocolate

M-very smooth,silky and full

This is a tasty milk stout.

Black, it has a small, dense light brown head that steadily dissipates to a foamy ring and wisps and leaves only a hint of lace.

The aroma is sweet, roasty, and caramelly with chocolate, toast, caramel, coffee.

The taste is sweet and silky, a bit oily. It is similar to the smell, with a thick, toasty-caramelized character with caramel, sweet dark chocolate, a little coffee. Compared to Mackeson's, it's a little more mellow, simple, and less pungent, but still very good and easy to drink.

Pours a very deep brown/mahogany color, light tan head fades slowly leaving a thin lace. Aroma has faintly sweet vanilla and coffee notes, a bit of roasted malt. Taste is surprisingly light, sweet, not overly roasty like a coffee stout. Quite nice. Mouthfeel is very smooth, not heavy but still with some nice body. Low ABV make this a great session stout. I'll have to definitely seek out more of this style. Well done

A- Very dark brown, almost black, but looks black in the glass. The tan head is frothy with a mix of chunky large bubbles and small bubbles. Nice lacing, very clingy.

S- There is a nice sweetness of chocolate that can be smelled. I'm also smelling coffee vanilla and strong roasted malt smells.

T- The sweetness is nice, and goes well with the roasted taste. There is a good chocolate taste, perhaps its the combination of the roasted tastes and the sweetness help elevate the chocolate taste in this beer. There is a slight hop taste mixed in there as well.

M- There is a good mouthfeel, nice and thick like a beer of this style should be IMO. I think if something sweet like this is too thin it looses something.

D- Pretty drinkable, not too bad.

I'm glad to see Snowplow is still being bottled in bombers... As much as I'm enjoying Brrr, the thought of a winter without snowplow is tragic.

a. pours a thick near-black mahogany color with some golden and ruby notes around the edges. Light barely makes it through. A rich red-mocha head grows beautifully to a finger-and-a-half before deflating leaving a heavy ring and some lacing dancing across the top. Beautiful creamy lacing is left all the way down the glass.

s. rich roasted malt, cream, vanilla pudding, coffee and burnt toast. On the whole, a fairly strong roasty and sweet aroma.

t. sweet malt, roasty and full. Hints of cream and vanilla come through in the taste. A bit of milk chocolate comes through, and hints of nutty malt round it out. Hop presence is negligible, as is any trace of bitterness. Nothing overwhelmingly complex, but solid.

m. Creamy and full, especially given the relatively low abv. Carbonation is full and well-suited. A hint of slick sweetness is there, but isn't offputting given the flavor.

d. mmm. I could drink this again and again (and have in the past). While full and fairly heavy, it's fairly sessionable for a stout. It's a solid example of a milk stout (even if not overwhelmingly complex) and definitely worth giving it a shot.

Poured a dark brown color, nice carbonation, small creamy tan head. Nose is of roasteiness dash of hops, and chocolate/coffee. The taste is sweet/malty, nice touch of chocolate/coffee, nice little bitter finish. Medium body. Very milky and smooth on the mouthfeel. I like.

This stout is a near black color with an average tan head. The nose has lots of burnt and roasted malts with a hint of sweet milk lactose. The taste also has a big toasty malt profile. Possibly some light chcolate flavors. A smooth full body is well carbonated. A good brew to wash down some grub.

Pours with a half inch of dark tan head that fades to just a skim in a minute. Body comes off thin but still black as can be. Nose has some toasty smokey malt tones which are soft but remind me greatly of liquid smoke. The taste holds pertty true as the first sip brings some smokey, meaty, malt tones. Malty richness shines and does show some nice even sweetness as the palate develops. This stout really drinks like a smoked porter and is a very filling stout. I would guess the alchol around 5% as it is nowhere in the taste. Mouthfeel is sweet and smokey and a bit sticky. Decently drinkable.

I have had this in the cellar for the last couple of months or so. Milk stouts aren't really ageable due to the high lactose content (?) I guess, so I am finishing off a case of this now (over the next week or so).

Pours jet black with very nice foamy head. Head dissipates to lots of lacing.

Mild aroma of sweet malt.

Tastes of coffee and sweet malty flavor. Very nice.

Very thick just like a stout should be.

I could (and am) going to drink this late into the evening. Not really outstanding or anything, but a really nice session beer.

I really look forward to the Widmer Bros release of the Snowplow Stout every year. It is best drank fresh, for sure.

This bottle being in my cellar for a couple of months has lost some character.

Had on tap at Sampaios restaurant here in town
Poured a nice black, with a frothy lasting tan head. Smells of smooth creamy malt, some vanilla hints, and almost some smoky woodiness after a while even. Taste was mild, but creamy, mostly smooth malt with a milk like mouthfeel and notes of chocolate and vanilla. This was a very nice surprise, and the first time I'd ever seen or even heard of this beer. Good example of the style.

Pours a two finger light tan head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving a little lace. Almost black faint mahogany highlights. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is sweet roasted coffee, finish has a hint of burnt coffee. $1.45 for a 12oz bottle from John's Marketplace Portland, OR.

Appearance is a dark chocolate with little head. Smell is light in the roasted malt as well as chocolate and coffee. Taste is nothing complex, with mainly roasted malts, sweet with light chocolate and coffee with good carbonation. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. A good drinkable brew, and not just at one.

Drink a six pack of this, and your stomach will feel snowplowed...

Poured into my imperial pint glass with a menacing (yet rich) deep dark chocolate. The light cola colored head loomed over this dark offering with an impressive resilience. The nose had sweet roasted malt tones, with hints of toffee. This stout had dark fruits & roasted malt, with toffee, chocolate and hops all fighting to be noticed on their own. For a 5.5% beer, the mouth feel was very substantial. Rich and creamy like you would expect out of this classification of stout. Pair this beer with a rich chocolate cake, a few chocolate truffles, or even a tiramisu. Enjoy.

This is my first milk stout, so this review will be from the gut - a kneejerk reaction, if you will. Please note - as this is my first milk stout, I am not necessarily reviewing for style.

A friend of mine (who is getting in better beer) bought a sixer of this and left a few bottles at my place. This isn't too bad, and I didn't have many expectations for this brew to be as good as it is.

Poured a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - Deep brownish black, almost opaque, but light can still just barely pass through. It produced a thin 1/2 finger tan head and dissipated to halo around the glass. There is minimal amount of lacing left behind.

Smell - I can smell chocolate malts, and a bit of roastiness. There is a sweetness in the scent as well, but I don't know where in the scent it is coming from.

Taste - I can primarily taste chocolate, somewhere between a milk and dark chocolate flavor. There is a bit of roastiness in the flavor, which reminds me of coffee, but doesn't quite have the coffee flavor - just the roastiness. There is a sweetness that shows up at the end of flavor. I can't detect any hops at all, really.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. It has a really creamy mouthfeel, very milky. It doesn't have enough carbonation to really keep my interest - I wish that there was a little more. It is, however, silky smooth and goes down amazingly well.

Drinkability - This isn't a bad brew. I don't know if I would reach for this one all the time, but I guess that it is why it is a winter release. It was better than I originally thought that it would be, so I am going to have to give other milk stouts a try. Pick it up if it is in your area, it is worth a try, just don't cross any state lines for it.

I was served a mini pitcher from a keg and poured it into a 12 ounce frosted pint glass.

A: It poured an opaque black body with a half finger dark brown head consisting of small sticky bubbles. The head fell fast leaving a lingering collar and supporting a light thin curtain that did not linger long after first appearing.

S: It had an aroma profile that included dark black coffee, earthy grains and dark spices, as well as hints of alcohol.

T: The smell did not support they style but the taste did. The sip began with a creamy chocolaty flavor that had an underlying taste of dark roasted malts that finished with a strong coffee flavor.

M: It was medium bodied, sweet, creamy and smooth with a tingly, lively carbonation and a wet clean aftertaste.

D: This is a brew that sits well as an after dinner treat or a nice substitute for hot chocolate on a cold winter night. The boldness of its flavors limit it to tow or three at a sitting but its a brew than can be enjoyed over and over again.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" dark tan head above the barely translucent dark brown brew. Head falls gradually, with average lacing. Aroma is sweet and roasty. Taste is sweet dark maltiness, with light bitterness to close. Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth, all you'd expect, and drinkability is excellent. Great stuff.

From a brewfest 12 pack.

Very dark color with minimal head. Some lacing evident. Big bold flavor with malty sweetness.
Nicely hopped with slightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel was very nice. As others have mentioned suggests chocolate and coffee.
Not something I would want every day due to very sweet and rich taste. Nice seasonal though.
