The colour is wine red-brown, the liquid is clear. The low head is pale brown.
The mild smell got notes of nuts, fresh and roasted. Earthy hints as well as a touch of butterscotch.
The taste starts with a billowing dry malty flavour. Some soapy-hoppy notes and a hint of roasted nuts (especially dry-roasted peanuts). The aftertaste is dry with earthy-yeasty hints and notes of almonds, hazelnuts and a mild soft bitterness. The finish got a touch of coffe grounds.
The carbonation is very mild; the very small bubbles tickle in the mouth.
This one is a bit too earthy for me...

On cask at the Brazen Head, Brooklyn.
Poured a deep mahogany hue with a wisp of foam.
The smell featured caramel, light molasses and an initial coconut.
The taste consisted of some dark fruit, burnt caramel and a faint green apple.
The mouthfeel was certainly light for the style.
Overall a complex and malty suprise at 4%.

Tasted by a half-pint at the Evening Star, Brighton, in May 2007; handpulled w/o a sparkler.
A: dark russet brown with ruby glows, with a cob-web-like beige foam and very low carbonation.
S: smells so... deep... it's quite muted at first, denoting faint hints of sour pears and apples, while some mustiness and roasted-nuttiness lag behind. Not quite pronounced, but interesting all the same.
T: lots of grapes land on the palate, ensued by a deeper flow of plum-jam, leather, woodiness, and roasted walnuts with an assertive edge of dryish hoppiness; the superbly lingering bitter finish is muddy/earthy as well as slightly spicy. Like Dark Star's "Over the Moon" - a Dark Mild - the bitterness from hops lends a very deep impact overall, esp. in the aftertaste.
M&D: refreshing enough, with all the goodies necessary to make a fresh cask ale. A fairly drinkable ale this is, although it didn't blow me away.
