A chestnut bronze-coloured bitter with a smooth mouth feel and freshness; a classic style strong bitter brewed as a Dark Star version of Festive, a former great Sussex beer from King & Barnes.

Pint at the Rake. Ruby copper colour, slightly hazy, small tanned head. Smelled of rasins and slightly off fruit. Tasted roasted malts, had a long bitter finish. Not overly smooth. Overall it reminded me of a german Dunkel, not a beer for a warm day.

Enjoyed with the organizer, Alex Hall, at the Cole's first cask festival. This is the benchmark cask, commonly served in the UK. Pours a dark brown colour, with some dark malts' aroma. Medium mouthfull, very good malt backbone supporting a moderate and most drinkable bitternesss. Sessionable.

had during Cole's !st cask ale fest
16oz pint for $6
poored a light brown with a filmy head that left small lacing
smelled was light but could catch the malts
tastes was malty and slightly grainy but finished bitter letting you notice the hops
was a bit thin after the offerings from Voodoo Brewing Co. but was good
very easy to drink
wasn't wowed but the other beers i had that night were on the over powering end and I'll just assume this is a more subtle brew

Another half-pint at Rattle N Hum's English cask ale festival last week. This one's russet in color, with thin lacing on top. The smell is a rich malt with hints of pear. The taste is also big on the malts, which don't predominate too much over a nice cranberry flavor that gives way to a long, satisfying, bitter finish. The mouthfeel is full and robust, just scantly carbonated. It's unbelievably easy to drink. Give me more.
