Neighbor brought a six-pack of Sand Creek Oktoberfest beer to a Octoberfest party. The beer poured a rich clear amber and had a thin white head and slight lace. The smell included malt and barley....not real hop that I could smell. The taste was a very nice balance of malt and sweetness...some roast present as well. The mouthfeel was good...decent carbonation that faded toward the end. Over all a good marzen style beer...probably one of the better ones.

Your basic Oktoberfest marzen, nothing special. I haven't been a huge fan of Sand Creek beers but they aren't offensive either and thats about what this was. It tasted about like an Oktoberfest should taste with it's maltiness and bready flavor but I couldn't have differentiated it from 10 other Oktoberfests if they were all lined up side to side.

Took a chance here as I can recall trying Sand Creek brews at various beer fests, but I don't recall how I liked them -- never had the Oktoberfest either.
Found this at a local small bottle store I hadn't visited in a while -- surprised to find the brand and surprised that the place has upped its craft beer selection.

$10 a sixer.
A -- Orange-amber with a creamy, but thin, light tan head. Bottle actually seemed to have little fizz when capped.
S -- Light vegetal character in the nose. Not strong or distracting, just a little less-than-Oktoberfest like. Some yeastiness, but also some esteriness -- also unlike an Oktoberfest.
T -- Biscuit malts up front, nutty character after, some very mild diacetyl in the middle too and a light, spicy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. There is a lingering, light fruitiness in the aftertaste that's not typically lager-like.
M -- Mouthfeel is soft and sort of creamy with a light-medium body.
O -- Not off-putting, and pretty palatable, but not a too-style Oktoberfest that I always crave. It doesn't have any real off flavors, just not fully characteristic of a true Oktoberfest.

A: A respectable, but not large, head with good persistence. Burnt sienna color is radiant.
S: Sweet malt with a touch of spice in the nose.
T: Starts off with an aggressive spiciness of hop and malt. Moves into a medium bitterness, then there is a twang of hop as an onslaught of smoooth malt rounds it out.
The finish sublime.
M: A bit on the carbonated side (which adds to that assertive character)
O: I like this. It's s blend of aggressiveness and smoothness. I think a touch less harshly carbonated would serve this well, but the flavor is just great.

Reviewed from tasting notes.
A. Slightly reddish amber color with a receding foam collar and minimal lacing properties.
S,T. Lightly toasted malts and a certain light nuttiness, semi sweet but dries out more towards the finish. I was expecting a bit more noble hopping than this.
M. Medium body and carbonation levels. Very nice smoothness to the texture, however.
