The Sasquatch is alive and well. Picked this bottle off the singles shelf at Binny's. The beer pours an opaque black with thin ecru head that is lacing nicely. The scent carries chocolate and hints of espresso. The taste is bolstered by coffee bitterness with some semi sweet chocolate. The mouthfeel is full body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a decent stout, perfect for the colder nights.

Pours a rich creamy black/ruby tone.
Head is rich, thick, and really a good looking American stout.
Smells of cocoa, oats, coffee, roasted black barley, musty earthy notes. Bitter cocoa, touch of grassiness from the hops. Finishes with mocha espresso, good dosage of dark roast coffee, and rolled oat. Some pepper is in there as well.
Flavor is really smooth.Really good in fact. Chocolate, coffee, cream, pepper, hazelnuts, toffee, nice bite of oat bitterness and yeast pepper to clean up the finish.
Mouthfeel is smooth, medium rich. It allows the flavors to really come out and showcase their individual characteristics.
Good stout, too bad only made once.

It poured a very dark black for a non imperial, nice finger and half of mocah head, really good looking stout here.

Smell is roasty malts, bitter sweet chocolate, slight nut smell?

Ok taste is very unique for a stout, HUGE bakers chocolate, basically like eating semi sweet baking chocolate chips, huge roasty charachter. and a bitter coffee does show its face a little in the finish,

Mouthfeel is medium light and does not really match the flavor which to me is world class, I wish they would have added a little more bulk and silkyness to the body, but it will certainly not keep me from enjoying this beer

I grabbed this one as a single on a whim.... Shared that single with a couple of people at the local bottle shop and I am sure glad I did because that prompted me to get the 6 pack which I now have two more glorious bottles to drink....

Great American stout that I am sure many have not heard of or seen as I live an hour and half from where it is produced and came into contact with it by accident. GOOD STUFF!

Bottle I forgot about in the move. Not sure how old it is, but it is really nice.

This beer has a 1/2 inch dense khaki head with really nice lacing a great retention. Aroma is nutty with some light cocoa. A touch of off-putting minerally almost metallic aroma comes through, but it is a background note and does not ruin the beer. Flavor is quite roasty and lightly chocolately. Nutty. More like a dark intense brown ale than a stout if that makes any sense. Nice though. Could use a bit more body and creaminess.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler glass

A- Pours black with a thin, but persistent, head. Good lacing on the side of the glass.

S- Chocolatey, and a few coffee notes.

T- Strong chocolate flavors, fairly creamy, with some notes of coffee, cream, and roasted malt.

M- Medium bodied, just a bit lighter than the stouts I typically drink.goes down easy.

O- A good beer, was worth trying. The description says they only brewed it once. When did they brew it? How long ago did they stop? 'Cause I just bought this today. Anyway, it's a good example of a stout, with all the flavor profiles I typically look for, but like I said not as heavy as a lot of stouts I have had.

Bottle at the Trail Center on the Gunflint Trail.

A - Poured out an opaque, jet black color with a large, light brown colored bubbly foam. It left thin rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of roasted malt and toffee

T - Good roasted malt flavor with toffee and caramel. Some molasses taste and a touch of pine.

M - It was crisp and fairly smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a nice American Stout with a name the jumps off the menu.

Served this one closer to a cellar temp

Appearance: Pours a deep dark brown, almost black…dark khaki colored head about an inch thick formed and hung around…(4.5/5)

Smell: Deep, dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, oatmeal…some alcohol heat way in the back…it’s nice but light…there could be more…(3.5/5)

Taste: Much like the nose…a well rounded taste, I feel like we made a stop at all the classic stout flavors: deep roasted, chocolate, nut, coffee, cream and oatmeal…I would say the dark roasted malts and coffee are the most lasting flavors…oatmeal lands a bit heavy in the after taste…(4/5)

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied…Tons of carbonation…a very wet feel on my tongue…somewhat dry in the finish…very nice! (4/5)

Overall: This is a really good beer…tons of robust flavor, a very drinkable…it’s really that simple…highly recommended, I’m definitely gonna get this one again…(4/5)

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours pitch black with two fingers of thick mocha foam. Substantial lacing. Aroma is quite roasty, with some grassy hop flavors present as well.

First sip is roasty, thick, viscous, and just the right amount of sweetness. Substantial hop bitterness in the finish.

This is a very nice stout. Great viscosity, sweetness, but with enough bitterness to balance things out. Awesome mouthfeel as well.

Appearance

Black with a creamy thick head. Light does not really pass through this beer.

Smell

The smell is very pleasant. You can immediately recognize a smooth chocolate aroma with a hint of coffee in the end.

taste

Same as the smell. Chocolate and coffee. There is a little bit of bitterness but not too much, overall is is smooth.

overall this is an enjoyable beer. I would recommend giving it a try if you are in the mood for something new.

Nice entertaining label made me try this one. Didn't have high expectations. Pleasantly surprised.

A: Dark brown to black with a slight tan colored head.

S: Nice aroma that stays to the final swallow. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and molasses.

T: Similar to the aroma. Slight bitter or burnt taste.

M: Medium body, mild carbonation, 7.0% alc.

O: Good for an American (Wisconsin) stout

Pretty rich in the look, this one is completely black, no light coming through whatsoever. It forms a tan head that starts off just over a finger and creamy, but grows to two fingers and is continuously being renewed by a very nice cascade. It remains very creamy but develops some thickness and heaviness to it. Nice patching is left behind.
The nose offers some a mix of cocoa powder and almost milk chocolate, more sweet than bitter as with many stouts. Underneath lies a citrus element. Roast is there, but as a sort of subtext. Barley grains come up from underneath.
The taste pretty well follows suit, with the barley element pushing to the front and the roast pushing up more than in the aroma. The roast, in facts, goes a little charred and, combined with the sweetness, makes for a bit of an acrid note. It subsides a bit, but the finish gets, for lack of a better way to express it, salty.
The feel is a pretty heavy medium, a subtle crispness giving way to a smoother sip. While the cascade is there the entire time, the carbonation is still light.

A: Light mocha colored head, Jet black with browning color when held up to the light.

S: Dark roasted malt, Chocolate, caramel, slight molasses aroma and a feint coffee smell

T: heavy molasses and dark roasted coffee flavor, sweet chocolate and caramel flavors as well, kind of a mocha flavor that is heavier on the coffee

M: Dry and smooth, thick and sticky, medium full bodied, pleasant roasted mocha aftertaste

O: This is a great beer, full flavors that really highlight what this beer is made of. Lighter on the ABV for a Stout but that just makes it more drinkable. This is a highly enjoyable stout!

Deep brown with and interesting amber-like colored head. Good clarity. Very subtle nose of chocolate and charcoal. Thrown off and surprised by the big chocolate flavor right off the bat. Roasted malt up front. Chocolate and caramel coat the tongue, some astringent asphalt like flavors. Body appears large at first but thins a little on the swallow. Extremely clean finish. Rich flavors. Carbonation breaks flavors apart, not necessarily a bad thing, adds a unique layering effect. Surprising find.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is black as night with a foamy, tan colored head. Nose is dominated by roasty malt; smoke, burnt chocolate and coffee. Taste is also all malt, slightly smokey and cocoa powder with just enough hops to balance perfectly. Mouthfeel is medium in body with a viscous and creamy smooth carbonation. Overall an enjoyable stout, worth trying and worth going back for again.

Lilja's Sasquatch Stout

Pours a deep black color. Solidly brown, large topping of fizzy bubbling foam and some lace shows. Aroma is malty, like Ovaltine, lots of malt and cocoa. In the taste, rich roasted malt flavor with chocolate, mocha and slight licorice notes. Robust and full, little alcohol shows. Hop bitterness is noticeable but not in the forefront. Mostly, coffee, toast, molasses and chocolate are the big players. Mouthfeel is full bodied, smooth and very drinkable. Overall, this is the second time I have had the pleasure of drinking the Sasquatch Stout, and hopefully not the last. Very good stout.

12 oz. bottle tried 13 Dec 2011. Courtesy of R&S (of course), thanks! Served in the 0.4 L Ulmer Munster snifter.

Large brown head. Medium carbonation. Clear very dark brown in color. Aromas of cocoa, roasted malts, burnt sugar and ethanol. Starts a bit charred and burnt, reminiscent of powdered cocoa. Some figs and dark fruit. Roasted malts through the middle, then the finish and aftertaste become a bit sweeter. Medium to light body, light ethanol.

Overall I though it was about average, A liked it a bit more.

Poured from bottle into goblet.

Appearance- Deep dark brown, almost black...There are little orange chunks in mine. It looks like the brewer sprinkled orange zest in the batch. Not appealing at all.

Smell- Chocolate and tobacco jump right out. There is orange and a floral pepper note in the back.

Taste- Chocolate and yeast...brown sugar and alcohol hit you secondly.

Mouthfeel- Coats your mouth just like stout should.Nothing really of note here.

Overall- It is a stout of average quality. Not horrible, but certainly not anything impressive. I've made stouts just as good at home.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

Deep viscous chocolate brown color with a frothy tan head. Sweet aroma of molasses, licorice, brown sugar and bitter chocolate. Medium thick, creamy body with moderate carbonation. Dark chocolate, licorice, light roast coffee, and molasses. Slightly thin, watery finish. Lacking much complexity or depth, but there isn't really anything wrong with this beer and packs a surprising amount of flavor and body for a low ABV stout. Would happily have this again.

Appearance: dark brown and light does not permeate through. You can tell the beer is carbonated upon pour, but the head quickly disappears and leaves nothing behind -- odd for a stout.

Aroma: carbonated cheap red wine (I think Mogandavid) mixed with faint roasted coffee notes on the back end of the beer's aroma. I may also detect a dash of bitter chocolate.

Taste: The carbonation of the beer is too pronounced for a stout. The slightly bitter, tart flavor of the beer itself is not "bad" -- I tasted of roasted coffee or roasted bittersweet malts -- but the finish is slightly metallic (which is odd, given that this beer came from a glass bottle) and flat. After the slight metallic twang of the beer subsides, however, the residual coffee flavor is not unenjoyable.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel of the beer is very thin, slightly watery. Over carbonated for a stout. Very disappointing.

Drinkability: very drinkable beer. I would not prefer to drink another, but if this beer tickles your fancy, you most certainly could drink several without getting too full.

Overall: The beer was very disappointing. The flavor is nothing special, and spoiled by an off-putting finish. The beer was too watery for my taste, and I prefer a more full bodied stout. Between the carbonation and unnecessary finish, this is a very weak, avoidable beer.

I did not know this was a Wisconsin beer before I drank it, but it reinforces my belief that there are very few good Wisconsin brews out there and that Wisconsin makes the weakest beer in the Midwest (well, next to Iowa).

Served in a Chicago Bears shaker pint glass.

Finally pulled the trigger on this guy, following weeks of second-guessing and choosing other things. It pours a dark ruby-tinted black-brown topped by a half-finger of dirty light tan foam. The nose comprises chocolate syrup, molasses, toasted oats, dark wheat, and a drop or two of maple syrup. The taste holds notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate powder, burnt wheat, light vinyl, and light bitter coffee. The body is a hefty medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a thinnish body, and a sorta dry finish. Overall, a decent stout, but one that's a bit too roasted and a bit too thin for my tastes.

Distinct coffee flavor. Quite dry with a bitter edge. Lots of malty flavors through the roasted spectrum, but barely a hint of sweetness. Plenty of bitter chocolate. Hops come forward right away without much trace of flowery aroma. Good for a sip but quite austere. Body and mouthfeel is thin. Borders on harshness after a while. I would not call it highly drinkable, even cold. Still, it does have an intriguing dark, woody, earthy taste. Like some kind of barbequed barley. Beautiful coppery brown in the tulip glass.

Has all the characteristics a good stout should. A dark color, great head, strong roasted flavor with a bitter, dry finish. This one also has a taste of currants and rye bread. Very complex, very interesting, and very delicious. Reminds me both of a milk stout and an imperial stout.

A: Deep black with ruby highlights at the edges. A nice tan head on the top of it.

S: Nice roasted malt aroma, notes of chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

T: Roasted malt with a little bit of a tart thing going on. Some slight tannins with a almost milk stout flavor in the finish. The toasted flavor lingers in the aftertaste.

M: Medium light in body. Carbonation seems about right, there is a slight dryness in the finish.

O: Overall it is alright, pretty decent flavor but not something I would buy in bulk. This doesn't stand out in a world of beer that exceed it.

(A)- Pours a fairly thick pitch black color. Produced a nice cap of tan froth. Good retention. Minimal lace.

(S)- Mild nutty roasted components. Bits of raisin.

(T)- A smooth biscuit/oatmeal flavor. Bits of cocoa, raisin, and plum.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Smooth yet mildly roasty and a balanced sweetness.

(D)- A solid stout right here. Easy drinking and hits the spot for the style.
