A pleasantly murky bubble gum style of Hefeweizen. Pale amber in the tall glass. Light body but lots of malt flavor. Tart and fruity. Has a bitter twang like plum skins, along with flavors of pear. The smell is dusty at first. Dandelions come to mind.
Some citrus aroma eventually, and a pleasant crisp citrus not along with the warm malt. Not the standard Hefeweizen, though it is quite drinkable. On tap at Hop Cat in Grand Rapids. [notes from 09-12-2011 visit]

Sand Creek Brewing : Liljas Heifer Weizen
LOOK: Pours a hazed golden color, white head and a bit of lace.
SMELL: Clove and orange peel, wheat malt and overall very citrusy.
TASTE: Semi tart yeast flavor, with clove , lemon and orange peel flavors. Muted unripe banana. There is very little bitterness and the beer finishes with a clean lemony citrus note. Malty as well so not one dimensional.
FEEL: Light to medium bodied, decent carbonation, a bit chalky.
OVERALL: A decent wheat with strong citrus flavor. Went down easily but not a standout.

A: The beer is slightly hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. A very careful pour resulted in a two finger high bright white head that took a long time to die down.
S: There are light aromas of wheat in the nose along with hints of clove.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but also have initial notes of bananas from the yeast and hints of clove towards the finish.
M: It feels rather light-bodied on the palate and has a high amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very easy to drink hefeweizen but seemed to be a little too carbonated.

12 oz. bottle tried 26 Nov 2011. Sent to us by R&S, thank you! Served in the St. Arnold's ~14 oz. wheat glass.
Small white head quickly dissipates. Medium carbonation. Slightly hazy pale gold in color. Tart aroma of wheat and green bananas. Starts with some yeastiness, wheat and green bananas. Relatively sweet. Medium body, moderate ethanol. Somewhat banana-ey sweet tart finish and aftertaste.
Decent, would probably be even better on a summer day.

Served in a Chicago Bears shaker pint glass.
Another day, another random Lilja's brew. This one pours a hazy pale straw topped by a finger of short-lived dirty white foam. The nose comprises dusty wheat, orange zest, grass, and light lemon peel. The taste holds notes of orange zest, mild black pepper, wheat, and light coriander. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a very lightly grainy feel. Overall, a pretty nice, if not particularly exciting, hefe. I'd have another...

A- hazy golden with a quickly diminishing white head and no lace. a snot blob of yeast plopped out of the bottle.
S- somewhere between a wit and an APWA, i don't know if i'm smelling coriander or yeast. some clove and banana, pale wheat.
T- sweet and wheaty with a mild tartness. clove, banana, white bread. a little too sweet in the finish.
MF- juicy and lively carbonated with a bready feel. on par with most american hefeweizens out there.
D- so uh, a wisconsin farmhouse belgian style wheat beer? i don't know where the emulation is geared toward, but i guess they are doin their own thang here. didn't work out too well for me. boring.

Poured into Boston Lager glass...
A: hazy pale yellow with a frothy white head. great retention.
S: huge banana, bubble gum and floral aroma. actually the smell is so intense that those are the only scents i can pick out and thats definitely not a complaint
T: creamy banana pudding flavor upfront, then a sharp lemon zest, good wheat flavor, and slight bitterness round out the finish.
M: medium body with a buttery mouthfeel and low carbonation. finishes off clean
Overall, a decent hefeweizen that recalls the classics. however, that may be its downfall. I couldn't help but crave a Paulaner Hefeweizen while drinking this one. still very drinkable and a great beer for the price, nearly half as much as Paulaner.

Nice and golden look.
Some citrus, including lemon, and yeast. Definitely an HW.
The taste was definitely bready, citrus, maybe banana. Very light beer.
Mouthfeel....lets face it, these could go down quick on a hot summer day.
Maybe it is me, but for some reason (maybe the cheaply made label), I am thinking about some rich white cheese when I drink this.
Not too shabby.

Picked this up at Buy Rite in Jersey City a week or two ago and wanted to give this brewery another chance after the not-so-pleasant experience I had with them the first time around. Thankfully, this turned out to be a great beer for a nice day such as this and this stayed very true to its stylistic form!
Good pour to this, with a dark straw hue, somewhat fluffy head, and no lacing to be seen. As expected, there was some sediment at the bottom of the bottle but it was nothing excessive. The carbonation was light and complemented the wheat, grass, straw, and citrus zest nicely. All of the flavors worked well together and there was just a bit of a sour farmhouse in the aftertaste, as well. The wheat faded into that nicely and made it stand a bit apart from other beers of this style.
The alcohol was light both in taste and presence and there's no need to take a piece of orange or lemon to cut this with. This beer is enjoyable by itself and shows that something doesn't have to be complex or overhopped in order to be enjoyable. Fans of Hefe's and Farmhouse beers will not be disappointed here.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a nice head that too quickly recedes. Beautiful hazy golden color
Smell: Fresh Slight hint of citrus and spice
Taste: Balanced - Light fresh and crisp Slight citrus notes
Mouthfeel: Crisp and Balanced Lot's of carbonation, almost too much for me
Overall: Very drinkable and Please, may I have another. As a ex-dairy farmer I enjoyed the label art and must admit thats what made me give it a try. Another good beer from Pangea

A: Looks great. Cloudy, unfiltered yellow, nice thick head.
S: Cloves, banana, spice, bubble gum.
T: mimics the smell however the spice is pronounced. Nice balance.
M: Highly carbonated and medium bodied. Big time bite, a little more than I prefer for a hefe.
O: Great summer beer and something I will have again.

A: The super thick, awesome foamy weight head on top of a cloudy, copper beer looks absolutely awesome.
S: Lots of clove and general spiceyness alongside a little bit of banana. Pretty traditional, including just a tiny bit of the bubblegum aroma.
T: The flavors mimic the aroma almost exactly, expect their is an even greater focus on the clove and black pepper elements of the nose. The bubble gum is almost non-existent, just barley peaking through on the finish. The beer is surprisingly tart and the high carbonation accentuates that.
M: Really good carbonation with a thinner body.
D: A straight up summer beer. Really refreshing beer with a

12 oz bottle. Code on bottom of bottle, but I don't know what it means. Funny, wacky label art.
Pours an almost clear (!), lite, straw-yellow. A white head rings the sides of the glass. Active carbonation. Smell is very grassy. "Heifer" is appropriate, as it suggests a place where a cow would indeed want to go. Also, some sweetness and spice. First taste is upfront and spicy, with a bunch of clove. A lot of lingering sweetness, as well as tartness, and a lot of wheat backbone. An ample of heat for the feel. This beer is in no way not carbonated enough. Darn fine hefeweizen, and unique. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to another.

So, is it Hefe Weizen, saison, or witbier, as these words seem to suggest all three?
Let's open it up and find out.
Cloudy, amber appearance, beautiful, bumpy white head,.
Citrus (lemon and orange) and spice (coriander) in the nose, light and floral, very pretty.
Taste: big and bustling spice and lightly bitter hops bust onto the palate. A hoppier version of a wit, for sure. Soft wheat malt plays pleasantly in the back. Seems like a bit of a cross between saison and wit, heartier than a wit, fuller flavor and body, more like a saison, but with the flavoring of a wit. Got that celery thing going on, too.
The "heifer wizen" tag exists only to make some kind of pun on cows, but only confuses, as there's no similarity to German hefe weizens, except the use of wheat malt.
A zesty, spicy one, and an easy drinker. Nice texture, good spark on the tongue, excellent play on the palate, and it goes down well. I could drink a few more of these.

Pours a fairly clear pale golden color with a fluffy white head. The head retention is very good, and the carbonation is evident in attractive trails of bubbles making their way up the glass from the bottom. The lacing is also quite decent.
The aroma is pretty spicy with a good amount of clove and white pepper along with a touch of bubble gum. It also has a bit of tart on sweet character to it and a nice clean wheat profile.
The flavor seems to have more contributions from the malt and is sweet, grainy and slightly toasty. It carries some of the spice from the aroma, as well as a little bit of tartness. It also has some banana like character from the yeast.
The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium with a finish that is neither sweet nor dry. It has an enjoyable smoothness, despite a pretty lively amount of carbonation. A little bit of tart wheat and spice linger on the palate after swallowing.
I purchased this beer for two reasons. First, it had cows on the label. Second, Andreas Lilja played for the Red Wings. I was not really hoping for much, but this is a pretty decent wheat beer that would definitely be a nice option for a hot summer day, or anytime I was in the mood for a beer of this sort.
