We went on a Sunday, around 4 or 5. A gorgeous day in the early spring, everything all warm orange brown and melty. A halfdozen locals greeted us with warm indifference and the bartender was friendly. Giant mastiffs sniffed around your feet, were called outside by their owners--employees, brewers--then ran around outside for a little bit, came back in and started sniffing at your feet again. Customers brought in their dogs. This is maybe the best dogwalking destination in the whole world.
Tap selection was wide. 3 rares/one-offs, along with all of their regular offerings. Take home selection was a little lacking, though, as they only had one BGW series for sale and, understandably, you couldn't get growlers of the rare or high-octane stuff.
Like I said, the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. We came at a laid back time of time and we got a laid back kind of experience.
Certainly worth the 15 minute drive from downtown Madison.

While speaking with someone on the New Glarus Hardhat tour, they pointed out that Tyranena was just a stone's throw from I-94 when traveling from Madison to Milwaukee. Decided to take a pit stop here to test a few brews and grab something to eat--and was pleasantly surprised.
This is kind of what I would imagine heaven to be like. You walk into the industrial looking building and are greeted by a small, softly lit bar with a few friendly looking locals (as well as the owner's two dogs--one of which is named "barley"). The bartender greeted us immediately, and was very helpful. They don't serve food, but have menus for local places, so we called and ordered a pizza and sub.
As for the beer--I went with the sampler which included their three bourbon barrel aged offerings they currently had on tap. The Barrel-aged Spank Me Baby! was phenomenal, if only I could have picked up a growler. I was approached by the assistant brewer, Nevin, and asked if I had any questions about their beers. I was also able to speak with Rob for a bit as well about some of their barrel-aging, which was a really cool experience.
One of the most relaxing places I've ever had the pleasure to experience--you could almost swear that time stood still. Truly, a refuge for great beer and a relaxing afternoon...

One of the best atmospheres I've ever experienced. So warm and friendly. The owners two adorable dogs beg to be petted while lazily wandering throughout the place. Service was awesome. I feel like the bartender would have ran miles away to get us exactly what we wanted. The assistant brewer, Devin, approached us and asked if we had any questions and spent a good twenty minutes chatting about beer and the company.
An awesome and relaxing place to unwind after a stressful day of travel. Definitely planning to go back in the near future...

So, I was visiting a friend who knew of my love of beer and he wanted to try out this brewery down the street. He had never been, but he knew that I loved breweries. We go about a mile down the street and in the middle of an industrial park is Tyranena. Expectations were low....boy was I surprised! I would be a regular at this place if I lived anywhere nearby.
There were about nine beers on tap. I had the Fargo Brothers Hefeweizen, Scurvy and Bitter Woman In The Rye. All top quality beers. I ended up getting a growler of Scurvy.
There is an outside patio. Live music. No food except some bar snacks. They have growlers, T-shirts and even thongs for sale.
Whoever is running this brewery is doing a great job. I thought I was going out for a couple of beers with an old-college friend....what I found was a hidden beer gem. Great place.

I spent the afternoon here with my girlfriend yesterday. I wish I didn't live so far away since I could spend many afternoons here.
The place is verry subdued and classy. Elegant wood bar with oversized wooden stools. Large wood tables with stools if you don't want to sit at the bar. The beer garden although not massive it was a perfect setting for having a beer on a beautiful summer day.
The beer selection is top notch. They offered 9 different beer and their own rootbeer as well. We tried everything they had. The bartender was so nice. She made sure we always had a full beer and had plenty of information for us.
They actually offered us a private tour if we wanted to wait for the brewer to finish his work but, we declined. We had a long drive home and he wasn't going to be done for another couple hours. I found that very thoughtful none the less.
Overall this a great place to sample Tyranenas deliscous beer selection. Next time I head towards Madison I will stop here.

I've been here many times, as I live about a mile away. Thought I had better review the joint.
Awesome atmosphere. Green walls, chilled out, with a couple of large tv's in the corners. Some nice artwork fill the walls. Mug club mugs in cases behind the bar. Games to be played in the windowsills.
Quality of beer is high. Their regulars were all on tap, as well as their seasonal Fargo Brothers Hefeweizen, Scurvy, and their Brewer's gone wild release Bitter Woman in the Rye. I had 6 or 7 different tap beers, with my favorite being the porter, which has always been a go to since I've lived here.
Service was exceptional. Jen, who I believe is new, was an nice young lady. She interacted with me and my friend, laughed at all the right places, and never let our glasses stay empty for long. My friend and I played a few games of cribbage and chatted with each other, and Jen, and petted the dogs while watching tv. Jen kept our pretzel bowl and mustard dish full also.
A truly great beer bar. I also want to say that I think it's great that they don't offer any type of hard liquor, or any other beer besides their own. Keeps out the young, rowdy crowd. You can feel free to strike up a conversation with ANYONE in this bar. A real down home type of place. Go here if you are in the area, and have some time to kill.

located in lake mills, in between madison and milwaukee (but closer to madison)
lake mills appeared to be somewhat of a quaint town but the brewery is located in a pretty desolate part of town
we just came in for pints, not the full tour or anything like that. the vibe was a little spotty - there were some dogs, some little kids, and a fair amount of locals.
the selection was nice - all of the standards were there plus devil over a barrel (unblended), wood aged spank me baby, and an imperial pumpkin. all of these are served in pint-format so you can really maximize your dollar by going big
its worth the trip for beer - nothing else about the experience really stood out

It appears things have improved. They now let you trade in your growler for one of their. This is a great move and one that shows a commitment to customer service.
Also, the growler filling procedure is very meticulous. They clearly want you to have quality beer when you pour it out at home. I was very impressed with the fact they filled the growler all the way to cap to keep the oxygen out.
Service this time was perfect. And unlike some other pubs their prices are very reasonable and they clearly aren't trying to gouge you at all.
It's nice to see the improvements that have been made. They've always had great beer and a great local following. I thought they could do some things to make it easier on their fans who live farther away and they have done that with the growler trade-in plan.
This is their little bar at the brewery...no food except pretzels served...I've been here twice once the head brewer was serving beer..I told him I had just traveled 500 miles to try his beer (I was on the way to a wedding)...he didn't seem to give a shit...didn't offer a free brew or nothing after I told him how far I had come and how much I love their beer...then they want you to buy their growlers and won't fill any others despite the fact just about every damn brew pub in Wisconsin fills whatever growler you bring in..
The second time I was there it was busy and the poor bartender couldn't keep up with the crowd although he tried hard (it wasn't his fault..they should have had someone else working)..
Beers are very good-to excellent...setting is cool....the locals seem to love the place....all-in-all a good place to visit with a few things they need to improve on...

Stopped in on our way to Madison for Great Taste.
Great room for the bar with wood and stone all over. A nice long bar lead out to a flag stone patio that was complete with tables and seating to enjoy the Friday night entertainment. Everyone was in such a great mood the place was simply alive.
Our two tenders never missed a beat. They were friendly, fun and attentive. They had no problem keeping everyone with a full pint in front of them.
All of Ty's regulars were on tap plus 4 special offerings. To include unblended Dirty Old Man and Scurvy!
All in all a wonderful experience! We of course intended for this to be a quick in and out...hah! We ended up spending "way" too much time here....but it was time well spent!

Having grown up in this small Wisconsin town I was so excited when this place opened, finally an alternative to the smoky Bud-Light tavern where your best choice is Leinenkugel's. This place has nice atmosphere, more and more music events of late, no food yet to my knowledge. a big bonus is that the tasting room is smoke free. Friendly service, very good beer, good music. beer prices are cheap. This place is growing in popularity and I believe is open every night now. overall, pretty good for Lake Mills, WI.
