Glad to be trying another Tyranena BGW brew. Most I've had have been very good.

A - Pours a rich brown, transparent with a white lacing and no stick on the glass. Why are these twist off caps??

S - A good amount of smoke in the nose then a hint of wood

T - Nice maltiness and caramel followed by some sweetness in the back. As it warms the bourbon somes thru just a touch mostly in vanilla. The smoke form the nose creeps in as well when this warms which adds another layer of complexity.

M - Sweet and rather full bodied, not what I was expecting. Sweetness clings just a touch

D - The bourbon is not overwhelming, which I don't like, but it is very well balanced. The smokiness in the nose keeps you wanting more.

Overall another good beer from Tyranena. Not spectacular but balanced enough to make me save one for a few months down the line. When I took the our I was stacks of barrels aging...hoping I'd be able to get some. Glad I did.

12oz, no date information
Riedel tulip

A: Slightly hazed dark amber color. Layer of light off white head. Forms a collar. Seems to be carbonated.

S: Burnt sugar. Caramel. Toffee. Slight butterscotch maybe? Not getting straight up bourbon and vanilla. Slight infection? I don't know what is a little off here.

T: You get that butterscotch first and foremost. Really takes away from the scotch ale character. Drain poured half the bottle. Dry finish with Werthers Original close.

M: Full bodied. Big mouthfeel.

Had this on 2013-05-05 in Munster, IN at Three Floyd's

A - pretty clear copper-brown with 1-finger tan head and very good lace.

S - Scottish malt. Not too peaty. Mild roasted bitterness. Light bourbon. Balanced. Inviting.

T - Delicious. Rich. Chocolate. Vanilla. Earthy spice. Light bourbon.

M - thick body. Light carb. Milkshake thick.

O - Lip smackin' good. First beer from this brewery. Impressive.

A - dark brown, cloudy

S - smells of sweet roasted malts

T - first i get a sweetness from the malts, then i get the bourbon flavor. the bourbon is not too overpowering, yet is powerful enough to overtake the initial sweet flavors

M - medium body, medium carbonation

O - If you like bourbon-barrel-aged beers, you will LOVE this beer. The Scotch Ale style is the perfect style to age in bourbon barrels. The bourbon flavors mesh very well with the sweet roasted malts of the scotch ale style. Everyone should try this beer. I am looking forward to trying more of Tyranena's Brewers Gone Wild series.

Poured a deep copper brown - almost like ice tea. No head and lacings present. The smell is definitely the most interesting part of this beer. It had a tea component to it, some form of black brewed tea or another one of those herbal tea's. I also get some burnt wood, likely from the barrels and I also get some toffee.

The taste had a sharp tang to it, just as if you ate a 5 year old extra sharp cheddar cheese (but different flavor). The flavor profile is so strong and unique that I can hardly describe it. It my first try at a Wee Heavy. This is plenty of malt and a somewhat burnt oaky taste. I do get bourbon at the aftertaste. It definitely is bitter yet mildly sweet. There is a big punch to it when you take a sip.

Great beer, I cannot compare it to other Wee Heavy beers, but I did enjoy it!

12 oz bottle thanks to Ri0. Thanks Jared!

A- Beautiful red colour, small and fast disappearing head of foam, considering that...pretty good lacing.

S- Nice complex smell of Bourbon, caramel malt, and vanilla. It smells balanced.

T- Good Bourbon notes, not nearly as sweet as I thought it would be. Lots of vanilla and toffee. Nice tasty Scotch Ale, a style I find I'm generally really tough on.

M- Lowish level of carbonation + medium body= no complaints.

O- I dig this Scotch Ale. A nice use of Bourbon barrels for the style, me thinks.
